How much of a hassle….

I don't think it is a hassle. I ensure I pack for a split stay - meaning I don't unpack the things I'm not going to need for the second part of the trip in the first part of the trip.
Disney Bell Services will transfer your luggage. You just need to check into the new resort which you can do at 6AM if you need to get to rope drop that day. I wouldn't do it for a short trip when you plan on spending a lot of time at the parks. If you are doing a split stay you do it because you want to experience more than one resort and that means taking time to enjoy the resort!
Where are you thinking of staying?

I think it just depends on how much you like/dislike packing/unpacking-the transfer itself is a breeze.:)

When our kids were young it was a hassle because we had more things from diapers to pull-ups to bottles, etc., etc. We have twins, so everything was doubled and maybe that's why I felt it was a bit of a hassle to switch resorts.

However, since the kids are older and they basically have the same things as we do (just clothing & bathroom stuff), it's much easier if we want to split stay. We've done it 2 ways. We've left our luggage with bell services and they transfer the luggage to the new resort. It's pretty simple that way because we can just head to a park like normal. Then get to our new resort later at night and our luggage is there waiting. Another way we've done the switch is by checking out and taking a taxi with our luggage to our new resort. Both ways worked well.

Even though we tend to prefer checking in and settling in at one resort, we wouldn't hesitate to split stay again. One particular trip that worked very well for a split stay was when we went to the Halloween party at MK. We stayed at CR so we could have the walking path. We still brought our double jogger but the kids weren't babies anymore, so we didn't have all the supplies but we still wanted easy ways to parks considering our double jogger. It was wonderful having the walking path because we could stay at the park later and simply let the kids fall asleep in the jogger, then walk back to CR whenever we were ready. We stayed there a few days and mainly concentrated on MK park, then we switched to an Epcot resort so we could easily enjoy Epcot and HS. Really fun and easy trip!

We are going to do a split stay this summer for the first time in about 5 years. I am wondering about food and electronics. Normally, when we leave bags with bell services we still hand carry valuables like laptops, cameras, ipads, and kindles. However, if we leave the first hotel early in the morning, visit a park, and then check into the new hotel in the evening, I don't really want to be lugging those items around all day. Also, I think we will have at least one bag of refrigerated items that we will want to move. Any ideas how this works? Do you all normally let bell services take luggage that includes things like laptops?

THANKs

Where are you thinking of staying?

I'm splitting between POFQ and CS. I'm doing a solo trip, but we're returning as a family in January… and we were looking at those two for January… so I wanted to check them both out … Isn't it nice of me to 'research' for my family?? ;)

This goes for us as well. We did a split when it was just DW and I and it was very easy, we tried again with our first lil one and it was more of a pain. We always like to unpack and put our suitcases out of the way, we both really dislike living out of a suitcase:headache: I also believe if we flew to WDW, it would be easier but with us being lucky enough to drive we bring A LOT more stuff, so that means a lot more to repack. Since every family is different, I always tell people to try it once.

No hassle. Be happy

We love the split stays. We usually set up our whole schedule around where we stay. Couple days in the MK area (our kids are grown and no grandkids yet). Then over to the Epcot area for the duration. Even tack on a night at a resort that we haven't stayed at. So many options on the luggage and all of them work fine.

Definitely, I like your thinking!

Really the only headache for you is you'll have to pack and unpack one more time. As mentioned, they'll take care of moving your stuff...I think they can even text you during the day with the room number at the second resort, so you can go straight there upon arrival if you want.

We went from BWV to POFQ with no problem. We packed the night before after getting in from the park. Just drop your bags at the front desk and they will transfer them. Your new hotel will text you your room when it's ready. Just catch the new bus when your ready to head to the new hotel.

Glad to know that you've had no troubles transferring your luggage! Since it is just me - I expect it to be easy peasy! Hope so, anyway!! :)

Shouldn't be too much of a hassle, I hope!! I will check about the text! That would be helpful!!

Sounds easy enough!! Thanks!!

We split b/t AKV and SSR on our last trip and loved it. Best of both worlds and it was hassle free. Disney bell services (as a PP stated) will transfer your luggage etc for you. We'll more than likely do split stays from now on.

Enjoy your trip!

What a way to take one for the team! For one person I think it would be super easy. DO IT! :D

I know! we are going right before you. My kids are going this weekend and I'm jealous

No fair!! Make them take you with them! lol

I keep reminding myself that I have a few weekend get aways and a beach trip planned before my Disney trip, but it isn't helping… lol I'd travel all the time if I could!!! lol And, certainly, be at Disney World a lot more!!
