Wine and Dine 2015

So, ADRs for me are this weekend. I know I've asked something similar before. I'm trying to decide on Lunch for Sunday. We were going to do Beaches and Cream, but I really want to try something different. Now I can't decide if we should do lunch somewhere around the BW or go to DTD. We will most likely have a big lunch and then do some celebratory drinking whichever place we go. Also, we are going to eat at Portobello's in DTD for carb lunch on Saturday. Thoughts?

I have 2 Proof of Time related questions.

1. I have a local race in mind to potentially use for a time, but it's not technically a 10K, it's a quarter marathon (listed as 6.55 miles). If I were to do this one and use it, but list it as a 10K, will that matter to Disney, since it's actually longer?

2. Where can I look to find other options to use for a 10K? I looked on runningintheusa.com, but I'm not seeing very many that would be convenient for me. What are some other sites people use to look up races in their area?

Thanks so much for any help!

Not sure about the first, but for the second:
Do you have any local track/race clubs? I found that several of our local races were listed on our local track club's webpage but weren't on runningintheusa.com.

I still haven't booked a hotel, never mind thinking about dining reservations! :D

As for finding races, I also look at coolrunning.com, active.com and athlinks.com. The latter is more of a results aggregation site, but it can help you find previous races near you.

Well, I brought my running gear to work and this afternoon I'm going to attempt running for the first time since hurting my Achilles one month ago. It feels great, I'm just nervous about getting hurt again. I'm going to do 30 minutes on the treadmill, run/walk intervals after a 5 minute walking warm up. Then 30 minutes on Wednesday and 3 miles on Friday. I am going to try to stick to the 3 days of running a week, with just walking on my other days. My 10K is on the 16th, if I feel like I can manage it. :)

So what time did we determine you could make ADRs? 6 a.m. ET? Or was it 8?

Either way, my husband is going to be SUPER excited when my alarm goes off crazy early!!!! If it's 6 a.m., maybe I'll just stay up ...

Raglan Road has a brunch that looks interesting. Looks like live entertainment starts at noon. http://www.raglanroad.com/the-rollicking-raglan-brunch

It's supposed to hit 87 degrees in my area on Saturday, so I'm considering just heading out for my long run right after I do ADRs. Although, I'll be at a Yankees game Friday night, so it make take all the strength I have to get up early on Saturday.

At look at this one for every trip, then I thoroughly look at the menu...and seem not very excited about the food. I did see that House Of Blues does a Gospel Brunch all you can eat and drink..scratch that...additional cost for drinks. It's about $40/person. Essentially you buy tickets for the performance which includes the food.

Yay! I did 2 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill without hurting myself! :) I could have done better, but was trying to take it super easy and not push myself on my first time running since injury. :)

Yay, that's good news :) It definitely makes sense to take it easy at the beginning of your return to running post injury.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I sent an e-mail to the track shack address they list for if you have questions regarding proof of time. Let's see if I get a helpful response. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to accept a certified race that is longer than a 10K. It's still within the distance requirements, just not a specific distance listed.

On another note, I learned today that if I want to make my weekend for the race Friday-Monday like I planned, I'm going to have to take a day off of work with no pay. The employee benefits for my position are really poorly communicated, and I was under the impression that I would have 2 personal days next school year, which I could use to take off Friday and Monday. But it turns out that the day I have this year, which I haven't used, won't rollover like I thought it would (contracted teachers in my district get personal day rollover to accumulate up to 3 days, but I guess I'm not in that category). So now it's either fly in Friday night/Saturday morning and miss the first day of the expo but stay until Monday, or arrive on Thursday night/Friday and fly out Sunday night. I really want to be there for the first day of the expo, but also want to stay Sunday night so I don't have to leave so quickly after the race. I'm so bummed about this, and part of what I can do will depend on flight schedules too.

Oh no! I just realized my ADR day is on Saturday ... the morning I am running the Tinker Bell 10K. Well shucks. I really have to rethink my timeline to make sure I can make it happen before I leave. As if I'm not stressed enough about being ready to run this weekend.

AHHH!

You should be ok to miss the first few hours of your ADR day. For my October trip, I did it about 5 days late & was still able to get places like Be Our Guest. Enjoy your run, ADRs will be waiting for you after you finish the 10K.

Does anyone here attempt to run negative splits? I'm doing my qualifying 10k in a couple weeks, and I'm trying to experiment with negative splits to see if I can get a PR and have more in the tank at the end of the race. Yesterday I was able to accomplish negative splits on about a 4.3 mile run. I had splits of: 7:40, 7:50, 7:34, 7:27 but my average was way too high to get anywhere near my needed 10k pace of 7:27. I think I started way too slow and then just didn't pick up the pace fast enough. My normal 5 mile route where I don't use negative splits I tend to start out at around 7:10ish and then probably finish in the 7:40's.

Where do my splits need to be in relation to my needed pace if I'm trying to go negative?

Since you'll be on the West Coast, you can start making ADRs at 3am... maybe just get any hard to get places before the race then worry about the rest later.

To the best of my knowledge, you are at the mercy of your actual half marathon finishing time. So your corral assignment would be based on your 14:17 pace, 3hr+ total time. Which you should submit!! Any POT will help your corral position!

My apologies. I meant to write that My quarter time was on another day. I was just wondering if with RD adjusting the times which one would be better to submit.

1. unless something's changed, there should be a spot to check for "other" if your race distance is not one of those rD lists. I would just state the race distance in the race name in the first box.

2. Have you tried searching through Active?

I just completed my first half marathon and have some questions for the group. My 1/2 marathon pace was 14:17 and I ran 1/4 marathon I ran a 12:37 pace. Which would you submit for POT and which would give you a better corral?

Thanks for your help!
You can plug each of them into the PoT link and see which gives you the better finish time, then go with the better one! You can enter and reenter PoT repeatedly up until the deadline, so just try each and go with the best.

I pretty routinely run negative splits - don't be impressed; I'm just a total 2nd-half runner and it takes me a while to get into my groove, lol! I don't have any mathematical advice, though - I just start my runs comfortably and focus on picking it up in the second half. I can truly have a full minute/mile difference between my first mile or two and my last couple miles. So maybe try starting out even slower and see if that leaves you with more gas to work with in the late miles?

I try to run negative splits on long runs, with a focus on finishing really strong, but it hurts my time when I try it for runs shorter than 10 miles. Especially for runs 10k or less, I attack every mile as if it is the only mile that I am running (without reaching exhaustion).

My 10k strategy - warm up for about a mile at a pace about 30-45 seconds slower than my race pace, with a few strides mixed in, and be ready to hit the race at full effort at the starting line. I practice this once/week on my speed work days so it feels natural on race day.

Our ADR date is this Sunday when I'm running the Tinkberbell 1/2. my DW is waking up with me just so she can make our ADR's and then going back to bed. She can sleep a couple more hours, then get up in time to cheer me on as I pass the HoJo on Harbor Blvd.
