Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

OMG! I love this!!! Got any extras? Lol

Where did you find the Minnie and Mickey fabric? And what kind of material is it?

Had to post this. One of my BFFs and I sent in fabric in February to get matching custom SparkleSkirts made. I found the fabric and she came up with adding the polka dot waistband. Her skirt arrived today (picture below)...I have others coming with mine so I'm not sure when mine will come, but I'm so excited to see the finished product! I'm sure we'll end up wearing them for one of the Disneyland races. :)

Soooo cute! I love it!!!

Ugh. I'm going to write a full breakdown about it on my training journal - but does anyone know if rD uses your official time to calculate or your official pace?

The USATF certified race I ran this morning ended up being actually 6.75 miles. They were kind enough to tell us this at the finish and that out official pace would be adjusted to reflect the course, but they can't do anything about time.

It doesn't really matter to me (even though I PR'd significantly), but I feel really bad for my girlfriend who was running this race for her DLH PoT and PR'd in a time at 6.2 that would easily jump her a corral, but not at 6.75 if they just go on time.

I had no idea you could send them your own fabric!! Did it cost much more? This is intriguing to me. Please give me details. Does it have to be certain fabric??

My guess is they will use her time since you'll have to choose 10k when doing the update. They'll see the time she ran and apply it against a 10k. Guess she could call and explain what happened but I wouldn't have much faith that runDisney would get it right.

They use your net time for putting you in the corrals not your pace (converted with McMillan adjusting if it's a 10k for a half)

Ugh - yeah, that's what I figured.

I'm just really angry with the race directors for this thing. It wasn't a cheap race (considering - I think, with fees and timing chip we paid around $50), the shirt is a 100% cotton throwaway shirt, there was no medal and no charity aspect - but through all of their marketing they kept crowing about how it's the only USATF-certified race other than our big marathon weekend here in town.

I knew the minute I got to the starting line that the course was going to be WAY long (this is a course I run multiple times a week for my training runs), but I wasn't expecting it to be a half-mile longer. They really fudged with the map, too, once I ran through the course.

And then you get the volunteers that tell you after you finish that your time will be adjusted and they know the course is long. Well, then, make it right the first time.

Anyway. Sorry for my ranting. I'm just really frustrated. This will probably be my last race for a while because I need to focus on combined distance and not time, but I hate that my last race for the time being is leaving such a bad taste in my mouth.

Rant away @Keels. Kind of stinks they did that. Did they give you any reason why the made it longer? My half today was supposed to be a little longer but they at least told us before.

Forget the race and have some good training runs to clear out the bad experience.

Not really. It's part of a HUGE Junior League event here, and if I had to guess, they mapped it out and then JL wanted them to do an extra out-and-back through the festival grounds at the end to get people to stay. That's where a large part of the extra half-mile came from.

Look - I know being a race director and putting together a course is tough. Both of my halfs came out longer (even after my terrible tangents), but there's a difference between .1 or even .2 over than there is for .5 over.

Anyway. I'll move past it.

Totally on a different tangent, but I just want to say, "Hi!" to everyone from DTD. Scoping out as much of the 10k route as possible since I am in town for business :sunny:

Anyone have some advise on back to back races the 10k & the half. I am doing the Pixie Dust next weekend. Have never done 2 races like this. Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom. Hope I survive !

I would say try to stay off your feet prior to the races as much as you can. Doesn't mean you can't do the parks but just don't overdo. Pace yourself well for both races even if that means slowing down a bit for the 10k(unless you're shooting for a goal time.) And this might just be a me thing but get out and a walk a bit after the 10k to stretch out your legs some. Most of these are probably obvious as is of course - have a great time! You'll survive and do great. :)

Arriving on Thursday afternoon have not bought park tickets for this trip save my pennies for Dumbo. The only way I could get in for Dumbo was with a travel agent. So just going to walk around a little doing the expo. So I will make sure for nice long walk after the 10. Hope I not get swept up in the pace I was placed in corral A. I have not time goals just surviving. Just trying to not let it get in my head. I have done my training so no reason for this jitters. But thanks for your words of advise.

So exciting! My two cents would be:
1) Wear good shoes if you are walking around a lot at the parks and/or expo the day before. I wore flip flops in the parks in the days leading up to the races, and my feet and calves were sore before the race even started.

2) Get a good night's sleep the night before the second race. It's so tempting to stay out late, but try to get to bed early.

That's all. Have fun! You're going to do great!

Agreed! Keep the legs moving after the 10k!

Have fun. Stay hydrated.....try to drink as much water as you can leading up to the half. If it were me, I would maintain a comfortable pace at least for the 10k. Try to exercise your legs after the 10k and the half. Get rest.
You'll do great.
Have fun.

:) It's from eBay...4-way spandex. Here's the link to the seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191228773882?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I do think we have extra, but my BFF said they didn't send it to her, so my guess is that it's coming to me since I sent it to them in the first place...and my skirts apparently aren't ready yet. I guess 1 yard is enough to make a skirt and the seller sells it in 2-yard increments, and I bought 2 of them for some reason.

I've seen skirts with other Mickey & Minnie fabric, Disney Princesses (Sleeping Beauty, Snow and Cinderella, I think) and I just saw one with Anna and Elsa. So the fabric is out there, just hard to find, I think.
Soooo cute! I love it!!!
Thanks!! I can't wait to get mine!
I had no idea you could send them your own fabric!! Did it cost much more? This is intriguing to me. Please give me details. Does it have to be certain fabric??
It does cost more - it depends on how you do it...2 scenarios:

1. I find fabric on my own, order it and send it to SSHQ. To make a swing costs $80 that way. In this scenario I've also paid for the fabric.
2. I find fabric on my own and ask SSHQ to order it themselves and have it sent to them. To make a swing costs $90 this way --> depending on the cost of the fabric, this can be a little bit better of a deal.

So you can see that there is a little bit of a mark-up, since regular stock skirts are $65-$70 or whatever. But you get to pick pretty much everything...for example, we could have gotten the waistband in the same Mickey & Minnie fabric, could have gotten pink shorts instead of polka dots, or turquoise, or whatever. Vented slims are $5 more, as are hikers, I think...and larger sizes.

They said it would take 20 weeks to make the skirts and like I said, my BFF just got hers. We sent in the fabric in early February and paid for the skirts on February 26 (you pay ahead of time), so clearly that 20 week estimate was a HUGE overestimation. Which is fine!

More info here...I could see this becoming dangerously addicting! http://www.sparkleskirts.com/pages/spark-faq (see FAQ #2 and #2A).

UGH. I mean, it's common to finish a race going over the distance, due to taking wide turns and stuff...but that is crazy! I'm sorry that happened to you guys. Especially on a "certified" course.

As others have said, it's the net time they use. :(

Adding on to the great advice you've already gotten - don't sweat it!! I personally believe that if a person is well-trained for a half, they can complete these 10K/half challenges with no problems, given that you follow the above advice. So just have tons of fun! You're ready!! :)
