Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

We're staying at Ft. Wilderness cabins with a pre-park opening breakfast at the Magic Kingdom. The boat to the Magic Kingdom doesn't start running until 8:30 am. What should we do? Will the boat between resorts be able to get us close to Magic Kingdom in time for 8:15 am breakfast? Thanks!

Yes, the boat to the CR starts running at 6:45. It's about a 10-minute walk from the CR dock to the MK entrance. You can also take the Resort Monorail from CR to MK, but it will take 10-15 minutes longer than walking.

What's the fastest way to get from animal kingdom late afternoon/evening to downtown disney. We are staying WL so don't want to go bavk to our resort between since it's in the other direction.

Thanks!
Wendy

Fastest? A cab. If you don't want to take a cab, I would take the bus to a resort, maybe Pop, and transfer to the DTD bus there.

Thanks! Unfortunately I can't take a cab as my dd is in a wheelchair. My last trip they had a direct bus after like 3 or 4 pm, but I think that was a test.

We are doing the Keys to The Kingdom tour at the MK this Thursday and are staying at the BW. The tour starts at 8:30 and we need to be at the park at 8:15, from reading here I see buses DO run early in the morning, would bus be the best way? And approximately how often do they run early in the morning? (I know they run approx. 20 minutes during regular hours, just not sure about pre park opening).

ETA: Never mind. I just learned that I will have to check in at AOA in order to activate our DDP and tickets. Decision made based on this. :)

I am a WDW newbie and would appreciate some opinions. We have a trip planned for December that involves a split stay and our own personal vehicle. Our first night we are staying at AKL (just strictly a resort stay). The next day we check into AOA and we want to be at MK for rope drop (and EMH if available). My question is would you:

A. Drive from AKL directly to MK and park
B. Drive from AKL to AOA and hop on a bus
C. Take Bus from AKL to MK and later return to AKL to move car

Since we will already be up crazy early for EMH, I prefer to take the route that is either the shortest time or the easiest in the long run. We plan to return to our hotel for midday naps. I have never been to the MK parking lot and it sounds like a beast. Thoughts?

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to

You're right about the direct bus no longer running.

There are differing opinions about the fastest route. I recommend transferring at either Pop or AoA, because they are single-stop resorts, they're more or less on the way, and they have organized queues.

If you are traveling while BB is open or within 1 hour after closing, the bus will probably stop at BB on the way, which adds about 10 minutes to the travel time. Also, with a wheelchair, you have to be prepared for the possibility that there may be 2 chairs already at the transfer resort, causing you to wait for a 2nd bus.

You'll need to check in to activate the dining plan, but not the tickets. The tickets should be active that day, or can be activated up to three days early by going to Guest Services. Also, you can check as early at 6 a.m.

Yup, it was a short lived test. It was a nice thing while it lasted.

The buses will be running by 6:30ish. To be at the park by 8:15, I would be out at the bus stop by 7:15. Why? If you just miss the MK bus, you could stand around, waiting, for 20+ mins until the next one gets there!!! Yes, you could end up being early but that's much better than being late and stressing.

Well, you could pack up your car, with your bags and such, and then drive directly to MK...that would be the quickest route. Or, get up a bit earlier, and drive the packed car to AoA and get checked in. Then, take the bus to MK from AoA. I always prefer to get checkin out of the way as early as possible.

If spending the evening at Jellyrolls, how late can I still get back to POR by Disney Transportation. Not keen on taxis. Does the ferry run back to Hollywood Studios late? And are buses still running from HS. Keep in mind we cant leave by way of Epcot, we are doing resort only package this time.

If there are EMHs at DHS, at the time you're ready to leave Jellyrolls, then maybe that would work. The buses usually run about an hour after the park closes.
If the parks are all closed, which most likely be the case, then you can go to DTD and get the boat or a bus back to POR.

Just want to add that the last boat leaves DTD @ 11pm (or maybe it's 10:45). After that, it's buses only to POR.

Thanks so much joelkfla! So the resort boat leaves from Fort Wilderness at 6:45am. Would you happen to know how long it would be until the next boat? I'd like to leave a little later than that if at all possible. Also, my TA told me that it wouldn't do any good to take a taxi, because it would have to drop us off at the TTC. Then we'd have to take the monorail from there.

Do you know if taxis can take guests directly to MK? (The TA is probably correct, but I'm hoping for different info! ;-)
They can't. The closest you can get is to have it drop you at the contemporary and walk from there to MK.

Actually, the service starts at 6:45; that's probably at CR. It may be a bit later when the 1st boats arrive at the other resorts.

I think they run about every 20 minutes, but I'm not sure.

Best way to get from DHS to DTD? (no taxi)

I was thinking bus to SSR, then walk to DTD, but we have two littles and weren't planning on taking a stroller that day. How long is the walk? Would catching a bus be better? How much total time should I allow? We have a 12:30 lunch @ T-rex

Be at the bus stop by 6:30
Board the MK-bound bus
Once at the park, walk past the park entrance toward the monorail
Board the resorts monorail
Exit at the Polynesian
Enter the resort, head to your left, go past the coffee counter and Kona Cafe, check in at 'Ohana
Or take a taxi.
Thanks!! Very helpful!
