Weather from May4th-8th bahamas Cruise on Disney Dream

I am going on for the first time a WDW cruise and leaving for the Bahamas May 4th....Just confused on weather reports so far for this week I have read for the 4th-8th...I know I have read a lot where it can rain and then stop on a dime in the Caribbean and still be nice and sunny most of the day...However everything I am reading for the weather next week is pretty much continued thunderstorms and little sun...Is this usual this time of year for the Bahamas? Seems far enough away from June 1st to not be associated with a tropical storm....Is this common to where it could rain most of the cruise without being associated to a tropical storm?...Surely it would not rain all day and night on cruise would it? Just a little worried about weather and need some reassurance you can still have a good time and peeks of sun, haha, thanks for anyone who can help...

Update did read a 40% chance of a tropical storm developing, if that happens does Disney Cruise Line sail somewhere else usually?

I will be on the same cruise next week and am hoping for the best. I usually cruise the first week of May every year since the weather has always been so good that timeframe.

Regarding adjusting the sailing to avoid tropical storms, I think they would only do that if the Captain thought the usual path would be dangerous and even then, a four day sailing is likely too short to rearrange any ports.

Unreal, hopefully it does not form, but apparently this has happened before this early back in 2012....I guess with a weaker Tropical Storm they can just go through it since it will not be a hurricane...I guess it could be worse, but mean what luck? HOw the hell do you enjoy your cruise going through a TS with constant rain?

I was on that cruise in 2012, we got 3-4 hrs of rain on Nassau day then cleared out.we will also be on this cruise, hoping for the best!

I live near Port Canaveral and what you seem to be describing is a normal May weather pattern for this area and the Bahamas. It's not unusual for them to predict showers/rain/ thunderstorms this time of year. 40% means 60% of the area won't get any rain. This far out any prediction can change. Even if it does rain, it's usually short lived and still warm during the rain. I don't see any indication that there is a tropical storm in the prediction. Bottom line - you may get some rain, but I wouldn't worry about it. Actually, May tends to be dryer than June or July.

Ok good to know, just have read on several weather blogs about a Low being positioned off coast of eastern Florida that could develop into a Tropical Storm by WEd. according to several of the long range computer models.....They are saying reason why so early is the waters around area is warmer than usual which could lead to abnormal TS developing which would be really really early...I think most are acknowledging its early but still seems to be a really good chance of a lot of rain during the week next week, all weather sites seem to agree...I appreciate the post though, anything that makes me feel a little better about the weather, haha...Added now Jim Cantore has tweeted out its something to watch for, you know that means could be something!

We just got off the Dream last week. Every day there was a forecast of thunderstorms and it was predicted to rain on our Castaway Cay day! Well, we actually ended up having pretty good weather overall. The sail away party was moved inside due to a late day thunderstorm at the port, but that past by evening and the Aquaduck was up and running. It did shower on our Nassau day and our sea day, but it was short and later in the day. And our Castaway day? Perfect- no rain until the all aboard. So, I know it is a worry and I was worried too, but try to relax, we made out just fine and I am sure you will as well.

I'll be on the May 4-8 sailing and have been stressing about the weather as well. Weather.com makes it seem like a total washout all three days but Accuweather is making it seem not as bad. Plus, we are a week out so this can all change (here's hoping!!!).

Funny how you can check 4 different places and get 4 different forecast. Crazy!

Well I am glad I am not the only one, haha..This does not seem like your normal Caribbean weather for this time of year, main reason why I am a tad worried..Any time I see this I get concerned:

These comments from a weatherman from Crown Services

Here are my thoughts: The weather pattern for next week, as I have mentioned in previous discussions, seems to support the development of either a sub-tropical or even a tropical system in the Bahamas. This weather setup will consist of a large high pressure system positioned across the northeastern United States. This will likely lead to lowering barometric pressures to the south of the high pressure system which would be positioned across the Bahamas. I do think that more than likely anything that does form will probably be sub-tropical in nature which may form in either the central or northwestern Bahamas around Tuesday of next week (May 5th).
This is something that would not be unprecedented as we have seen May tropical cyclones quite a few times in the past. This includes Hurricane Able in 1951 and Tropical Storms Alberto and Beryl in May, 2012.
In summary, I think that there is a 40 percent chance for sub-tropical development in the central and northwestern Bahamas on about Tuesday of next week. From there, my thinking is that this sub-tropical system may track northwest or north-northwestward just offshore of Florida’s East Coast on Wednesday of next week before turning more to the northeast passing just offshore of the South and North Carolina coast on Thursday and Friday of next week.

Ugh. THIS is why we haven't seen the Caribbean in 10+ years! I NEVER have to worry about this with Hawaii!!!

We sail right after. I'm praying Mother Nature cooperates because I will be furious if she doesn't.

Hopefully will be breaks or with timing does not start raining until later on Wed, if that is the case that would be good enough for me...I don't want to miss my port excursion in Nassau on Tuesday and Castaway Cay a week from today..

I'll be on this cruise as well, one thing I've learned is the weather will turn on a dime. I'm expecting some rain everyday tbh, but I haven't heard anything about a tropical storm/depression/system. Pick a weather site that has the best prediction and keep your thoughts positive. pixiedust:

We will be on the same sailing and the weather has been bumming me out but the not being pack yet and leaving Saturday is stressing me out. Hoping and praying for good weather on our cruise!

I let my wife worry about that, I am more worried about the weather, haha.....

My family will be on the same cruise next week. I'm hoping for the best while thinking I may pack a little differently, just in case. We're from Seattle, so rain isn't a big deal, but we want full sunshine while on vacation. I'm gonna try NOT to look at the weather app until late Friday. Hopefully, things will change. We fly in on Sunday.

@JimCantore: Both 12z GFS(1st map) and ECMWF ensembles keep inverted trof/unsettled weather over #Bahamas over next several days. http://t.co/16WBqeTvoZ

Are you on the americanwx forums? I'm in a "maybe snow, maybe not" state and each winter I love hanging out there and trying to decipher the jargon to find out if we're going to get "pounded" or "dry-slotted". :)

We sail out on the Fantasy on Saturday and are also from the Seattle area. What I see on the ship when it rains is that we have the deck to ourselves as everyone else runs. It does rain way harder there but it is warm and usually stops after about 10 minutes. Our rain is so much lighter but sometimes it feels like it will never end plus it is cold with a 20 mph wind. I hope you guys have a great cruise and that the weather works out.
