Help! Stick with ASSp or upgrade to Moderate (and which!)

so we're leaving for the world in one week (!) and I need some sage advice! We're booked at ASSp for 9 nights right now. The pros: very good bus service, small resort, good price. I'm concerned about the noise and crowd levels, and the quality of the beds and pillows. But overall I was comfortable width our decision, until this evening when I was poking around the disney website. There's availability at POFQ and CSR, both of which seem to have unique benefits. We stayed at POR last year and loved it, so I think POFQ would be up our alley. It would be great to take a boat to downtown disney, but I'm worried about bus service being a bit spottier. The other option, CSR, is more complicated as an option: the available options are a preferred King (gets around the problem of the size of the resort) and business class King (which is only 25$/night more than the preferred King). I absolutely love the look of the rooms--the decor is definitely my favourite of these options. I'm most nervous about bus service here. Do folks generally find it reliable? I can't find very much info about business class at CSR, so I would be very grateful for feedback about it, particularly breakfast reviews. We *love* mickey waffles--are they an option during breakfast? What time do they start serving it? We're planning on rope drop many mornings, and would need to eat fairly early. The overall cost difference isn't negligible (around 400$ at POFQ or for the preferred King at CSR, a bit more for business class), but I'm also willing to spend a bit more money for markedly better accommodations. My biggest fear is upgrading to a better room and sacrificing bus service and park access. thoughts?

Oh and another question: we have a package booked. With only a week left will we be charged any fees to change resorts?

I think you will love POFQ. We've always had good bus service and the resort is small so everything is a short walk. I can't speak about any change fees but if it were me I'd be calling to check it out for sure!
I'd request building 4. Close to food court & right next to bus stop. As for CSR I didn't care for it. Unless it's been refurbished lately I'd prefer POFQ.

I would call as well. I do not think you will be charged a change fee because you woul be upgrading, but I cannot be sure. I love POFQ though and recommend it often!

I would switch for sure. Have you ever stayed at one of the values? We did one night this past trip before moving to the Poly and never again. The food court crowd at Pop at 9am was terrifying.

We stayed at ASMu, and it was great for the fact that it got us to Disney when the budget was tight. But I will focus on upgrading from now on. The walk was was too long to the main building (I know music is longer than sports, so I'm not sure of the difference.) There were great things, like you still get the pool games and activities, but it definitely did seem a little more chaotic than the deluxe resorts where you have a constant sense of calm.

We're looking at POR for our next trip and my parents just popped over on their last trip to check it out for me. They said it really felt like a deluxe resort and was very peaceful and beautiful. If it's a possibility, I suggest an upgrade. It should be worth every penny. Plus, you can get beignets at POFQ! Who doesn't like beignets?

Thanks, everyone! This will be our 3rd trip, and we've never stayed at a value before (only POR and CR). We picked it because our budget was a bit tighter, but I recently got a promotion at work so this seems like a nice way to add to the trip.

I've only seen POFQ from the boat to downtown disney but it did look beautiful (and compact!). There's still something about the look of CSR that appeals to me though. Like it might feel more deluxe. Anyone have recent experiences with it they're willing to share? I want to make the call to disney this afternoon, but I'd love more input :)

I just switched at the 17 day mark and because it was an increase to CSR , there was no change fee just the difference due immediately. I upgraded to a standard CSR room from POP for 6 nights fore $330 which I felt was well worth the cost.
While I saw availability on the webiste for POR and POFQ they couldn't find any on their end..which was odd so definitely call. Good luck !

thanks, Astylla. I'll post a question over there and see if I can find any more info :) I hope you have a great trip!

We stayed at CSR in December. Our other stays have been BC, YC, and AKL so this was our first moderate stay, We really liked CSR. The room was somewhat smaller but not anything that made us feel claustrophobic and there were 3 adults in the room. The bus was fine. Never waited very long and almost always had a seat and this was the week between Christmas and New Years. Food court was fine. We mostly ate breakfast there and got a snack in the evenings-we were in the parks otherwise. DIdn't try the pool but it looked really nice. We're dong a split BC/WL stay this summer but we are returning this year to CSR again for the week between Christmas & New Year if that gives you any idea how much we liked it. It is landscaped so beautifully and is so nice after the crowds in the parks. We found it very relaxing and we plan on trying for more resort time on that trip.

We did CSR twice when it was just DH and me. Large resort and spread out, but also very quiet. If wouldn't hesitate to stay there again

Enjoy your stay!! I'll be at CSR too in a standard view in two weeks. Had we not bad a Dining plan and so many hard to get ADR we may have upgraded to that too . Have a magical time.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts today! We actually had some similar troubles with availability (where the website was showing us more options than the CMs could find) but after a couple of conversations we got what we were looking for. We also have some difficult-to-find reservations, but no dining plan. And the business class was only a smidge more (25$/day) so worth it for us. I hope you have a fantastic trip too! :flower1:

LOVE CSR! Our favorite moderate. Your questions: Bus service = excellent. It is practically the most centrally located resort that is so close to three parks and right next to the highway to MK. No ride is long, we've never waited long and never had issues with crowded buses. Business Class is a sweet perk and your rate for that is great!

Hope you have a great stay! Wish we could have done business class but we got a "magical deal" so just hoping for Casitas again. I'm really looking forward to DH getting to stay there. Last year it was DD, DS & me. We all really liked it. DS liked walking around the resort at night (talking to girlfriend on the phone to get his privacy!) and he really liked how quiet and peaceful it was. We rarely heard anyone around us. Hope you find it as wonderful as we did!

thanks, everyone! I think we got some serious pixie dust finding any availability at all only a week out! we did check all the moderates for availability and only found it at CSR (and even then only business class or a junior suite--:scared1: my promotion wasn't *that* great!) but the last minute price was also great. a quiet resort with great bus service sounds positively magical to me. I can't wait to experience CSR!

for anyone else considering a last minute switch: we thought we had to sacrifice the MDE luggage service (new tags wouldn't get to canada in 5 days...) but we found out that you just need to cross out the old resort name and write in the new one. then when the tags are scanned it'll come up with the right hotel info (although to be on the safe side, we'll have some clothes and toiletries in our carry-ons...)

POFQ is our favorite; everything is so close and the bus service was excellent. We have only stayed in Bldg 3 or 5 (pool view) and love that location (close to dining, gift shop, front desk, laundry, etc.).
