Hi all! Relatively new poster but longtime lurker coming out of her shell!

I'm going back to BC in May with my mom for a 'girls trip/PhD graduation celebration' after doing my honeymoon at BC and my first anniversary at YC the past two years with my husband. It's mom's first time back to the world in almost 30 years, and I am so excited to take her around and show her everything that's changed (she didn't even realize that there are more resorts than just the 3 monorail ones, and she was sad that "Birthdayland" wouldn't be at the MK!).

Anyway, I booked this trip through Orbitz, when I usually go through Disney directly. I'd like to make some room requests, specifically a refurbished room close to the main elevators. Mom is on the cusp of being able to walk the whole day fine, and needing to use an ECV (which she absolutely does not want to do), and knowing what some of the corridors at the BC can be like, I'd like to make the hotel part of the walking as easy for her as possible. Close to the elevators is a bigger priority for us than a refurbished room is. I've put both "close to the elevators" and "high floor" on my online check in to try to get these things, but I'm also wondering if I should try to convey these requests to Orbitz. However, going through Orbitz, I fear that the requests won't get relayed back to Disney, will get lost/confused somehow in translation, or worse, that the room assigners at Disney will be passive-aggressive (paranoid of me, I know!) and give us the exact opposite of what I'm asking for.

Has anyone gotten their room requests when done through Orbitz? If so, did you make the requests through online chat or by calling? I know that I can always go up to the front desk once we're at the BC and inquire if they can move us if the room is far down the hall, but the more I can do before we actually get there, the better.

Thank you!

(PS - I know that a new BC/YC thread will be starting soon, thank you natebenma for all your hard work! If you'd rather me re-post this to the new thread when it comes out, I'd be glad to do so! :) )

So I'm hearing great things already about the food at the Boathouse. A few friends ate there. Anybody planning to give it a try?

We are! We have a plan to have our DD go to the Sandcastle Club that evening - DH and I will head over to explore and have a nice little "date night" towards the end of our vacation. It looks so pretty and the food looks delicious! Can't wait!

:welcome: to the thread!!!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for May.

:woohoo:

Thanks for your consideration about the new thread. Doesn't look like I will get to it today. I am having some serious formatting issues in the first post with a lot of the links so that is going to take some patience on my part. And when we do move over, I will repost any "outstanding" questions so they will not get lost.

:goodvibes:

Now, on to your question:

Thank you!

My recommendation is to get your request out there in as many ways as possible, and to checkin in person at the front desk so you can discuss your room assignment and what is available when you check in.

Ask Orbitz to add the following room request to your reservation: "Mobility issues- close to elevator, please"

:thumbsup2

We got a refurbished room that is really nice. I think we are one of the first ones staying in this room since we are so close to the work zone. My only request was a full balcony, but we didn't get it. I'm not complaining, though, since we paid for a garden view room and received a room with a view of the lake. There is also a tree there, which is probably why it isn't a lagoon view room, but I'm not complaining. The movie on the beach tonight is Frozen and I stood on my little balcony to listen to her sing, "Let It Go". It was a nice surprise to get this room. I'll post pictures after I get home. :)

We had an interesting ride on the Magical Express this morning. We got to the bus around 10 am and they put us on a bus that stopped at Art of Animation, then Pop Century, leaving four people for the Caribbean Beach and just DH and I for the Beach Club. Once we got to be the only ones on our private bus, we asked the driver why they changed the route like that. He said that buses are required to leave the airport after twenty minutes so they added our small group because they couldn't wait any longer for passengers for the two value resorts. The irony is that our plans for tomorrow are to go over to AoA and Pop to check it out, but the ME did it for me. :upsidedow

We received a text while we were still at the airport at 9:50am telling us our room was ready. It gave us the room number and the floor. A cast member greeted us at the door with her iPad and asked us if we had received a text and if we knew the room, which we did. She asked if we had any questions and then said we could go straight to our room, which we did. We did not receive that little folder with the recreation schedule and a map of the resort, like they used to give people when they checked in. I stopped at the Concierge desk to pick up the recreation schedule this evening. Our MagicBands worked and going straight to the room was great.

We discovered that the bar section of Hurricane Hannah's does not take the Tables in Wonderland card.

It's been a long day, one that started at 3am for a 6am flight. :faint:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Sue...Sounds like you're off to a great start :goodvibes.

So I'm hearing great things already about the food at the Boathouse. A few friends ate there. Anybody planning to give it a try?

We're hoping to!

I'm not sure if the bedding situation has changed since the refurbishment work. There were only a handful of rooms with king beds in CL, I believe.

Is it worth it to ask? Depends on what your other priorities are. If a full balcony is important, then that should probably be your only request, or you could word it "Full balcony, please. King bed if possible". If you don't care if you get a full balcony, your request could be "King bed, if possible"

:thumbsup2

Well I keep asking to have Matthew McConaughey waiting in my room when I check in for my solo trips to Pop but THAT hasn't happened yet... so it is correct to remember that requests are requests and Disney may not be able to honor them. (Humph!!)

Teena - we're hoping to get a reservation at the BoatHouse - and maybe let the kids do the amphicar tour!
Menu looks really good. I think we will give up California Grill if we can get Boathouse. We've done CG several times and this looks really nice.

Also - I booked the Frozen Premium package for Kaylie and I. She's the only "Frozen" girl I have! I know you did it last year with your girls - any tips?

Yes - I booked last night for August and couldn't even get our first choice date!

Does anyone know if they are taking reservations for the Boathouse yet?

I believe it is walk-ins only until May 15th. That's when they are supposed to start taking reservations. Don't quote me on this because you know Disney changes dates all the time.

Awesome idea! I will ask my TA to add "Gerard Butler waiting in my room with king bed" to my reservation request.

Dee has some good advice. You can call Orbitz, with your confirmation number handy, and tell them you would like to add a few room requests to your reservation. They will ask to place you on hold, while they contact the resort. I usually ask for up to three special requests. The hold is normally about 3-5 minutes, and when the agent comes back on line, I am told that the requests have been placed, but they are subject to availability.

I don't believe that meeting requests for an Orbitz booking vs. a Disney booking is any different.

I hope you have a great trip with your mom!

Does anyone know if they are taking reservations for the Boathouse yet?

Yes it is however, we had to book it on Open Table - not MDE. I'm not sure what date the reservations start - we are going in July and had no problem getting the day and time we wanted. I think you can also call The Boathouse to make a reservation but I'm not positive on that.

Just booked the Frozen Premium package for my 16 year old dd and myself. Even at 16 she is Frozen obsessed!

My 25 year old LOVES frozen just so you know you're not alone lol:flower1:

We really want to give it a go this summer. Fingers crossed we can get a reservation. :goodvibes
Is it on the Dining Plan?

Not at the minute as far as I know and it is pricey to say the least!:scared1:

Yes, but have you checked the parking lot to see if there is a Lincoln idling out there? Don't lose hope yet...
