Best resort for solo traveller?

As a solo female traveler, I do not like exterior doors to my room. The only resort in the value/moderate category that has that feature is AoA.

I've stayed solo at AoA and ASMusic, Coronado, Caribbean, BLT, and AKV.

If picking a VALUE - just pick the cheapest room price. Really. The difference is minimal. Yes - the theming is different - but it's all fun and I doubt you'll spend much time enjoying it. I liked AoA better than ASMusic - but the ASMusic room was CHEAP - and clean, basic, etc. I felt safe, for example, coming back at 2 am and walking from the bus stop to almost the farthest building away at ASMusic.

Coronado and Caribbean are both HUGE resorts - but they do have bus spots that won't be too far from your room. I prefer the pool areas and theming at Coronado. I also like that it has folks going to conventions - I feel like I saw more singles around at that place than Caribbean. I really like the addition of the coffee maker at the mods, but not enough to drive me staying at one.

I rented points for the BLT and AKV stays - they were AWESOME - and if I can pre-plan ahead to get points at a good price and book during a cheap season - I'd pay extra for those for the features - but unless you find someone looking to dump cheap points and are going during a value season - they will be more than a value.

The only place I don't like solo is walking around the Boardwalk area very late at night. Too empty, a bit creepy. But it's fine when its not dark out!

I'm probably a little different lol but I spend quite a bit of time relaxing at my resort/in room, I tend to go to the parks in the morning, have a light lunch then back to the resort to relax, then out again in the evening. I also prefer a resort where everything is in one building (or very close by), so far I've stayed solo at BWI, BC, GF and WL. I love the Epcot resorts but my absolute favorite resort for theming and generally feeling comfortable is the WL. Adore the WL and am hoping my agent can change my package from the BC which I've already booked to the WL. Although I also really like the BWI I agree with the previous poster who made a comment about it feeling a little creepy late at night, sorry to say that's the one resort I've encountered 'over happy' convention guests and I felt a little uneasy.

If you're not planning to spend much time at the resort, booking the cheapest value is a great decision. I've stayed at two of the All Stars and at POP, and they're pretty much all the same thing, just with different carpet colors and different giant plastic wingdings outside the buildings. I've only stayed in a moderate once, POFQ (booked because it was the cheapest, haha!) and it was a much different feel than staying at a value. The values are fine, they're clean and you have access to food, shops, etc., but to me they feel like hotels/motels that just have Disney images stuck on instead of being themed from the ground up like the more pricey resorts. If you just need a place to sleep and shower, though, why spend the money? The theming is only worth the price if you're there to look at it! Keep in mind, too, that unless you stay at Coronado Springs the moderate resorts won't have any better dining options than the values (CS has an actual restaurant, iirc, due to also being a convention center).

If you're sticking to values, there are a couple things you could consider, but it's not going to make or break your trip. AoA is the newest resort and could be cool to check out, but it being newest also means it's least likely to be included in any discounts. POP is within easy walking distance of AoA; before a family member found us a Costco deal that let us upgrade to the Dolphin my mom and I were planning to stay at POP and walk across to AoA once or twice to check it out and use their dining hall. The All Stars, as mentioned, are pretty much all the same.

Hello:

I too am doing my first solo trip in late Oct early Nov and I have always stayed with my former husband at PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER. At the end of the day its all about what you can afford. But even though I will be going during a low crowd season Im still going with POFQ because it has more of an adult feel than the value resorts will have. And yes I do know adult couples do indeed stay at value resorts but they are designed with families in mind. I love the location of POFQ... the ferry ride to downtown disney and the buses run so much more often at POFQ. I later heard that its because POFQ is one of the "smaller" resorts. Everytime my husband and I left a park after closing POFQ buses never had a super long lines and the buses always arrived quickly. The Moderate hotels have the adult feel and yet they still have the "family" feel that will resonate with children.

Hope you have a great time. If we go at the same time perhaps we can meet up for a meal or an attraction that we both favor. My estimated dates are oct 28 to Nov 4th.

In any event.. enjoy!

POFQ is a lovely resort. I love the boat to DTD. But im on a budget and dont want to spend too much. I'm only looking for a place to shower/sleep....and I will probably take midday breaks too. But value resorts for me are just fine. I will wait and see what kind of discounts come out, if at all. Fingers crossed.
I'd love to meet up but our dates dont jive, it only gives us a day or two to meet up. :( Thanks for your feedback thou.

I've been a Pop fan and I did go over and check out AOA when I was there last. It's really pretty, just so whimsical. On my first solo trip my plan is to stay there. While I would prefer to be on the monorail route, $ prevents that option. And AKL would be my very first choice if $ permitted, even if its the furthest away. But...once Avatar land is built, I will save my $ and stay there as a treat! I'm sure no matter where you stay, it will be magical!
I agree, I love Pop & AoA! Both are a lot of fun. Im torn between booking the cheapest (probably sports) or going with Pop, my fave. As i mentioned above, I will wait and see if there are any discounts around that time. I hope so!

I stayed at Coronado Springs my first solo trip. Had a great stay, buses were good, enjoyed the pool. My next trip I am trying Pop (with a great bounceback rate). I am going to request 60's bldg, 4th floor, because according to the Pop thread that will give me a good chance at a lake-facing room. (The only standard rooms in 60's face the lake.) I plan to stroll around the AOA resort while I am there too. I have stayed at POFQ also and it was nice. It is a difficult choice!

You wont be sorry. 60's facing the lake is my absolute fave section! The view of the lake is so serene and beautiful. I took this pic with my phone on my last trip to Pop. Nice huh? I love being close to the bridge, its a nice short walk over the main bridge to AoA! :)

That looks so beautiful. At this moment it makes me feel that I have chosen the wrong resort for my solo trip. Oh well, next time :)

I like the 50's facing the lake - Tramp building.
yea the only resort where standard view is the view of the lake - preferred is swimming pool and a bit closer to the main building - buses, counter service and gift store - as well as front desk.

Pop is probably the cutest of the Disney resort - my opinion. If you like cute - you will love it

how much do you wanna bet that pretty soon disney will start charging for the "water view" at pop, and the standards will be located in the 80's & 90's. :worried: I hope not, but it wouldnt surprise me.

If you want the value category, I vote for POP. I have been solo a few times and have stayed at POP and POR and AKL. Since I tend to use the room as just a bed and a shower, POP was perfect for me. As a single woman when I went solo, I asked for a room at POP on an upper floor to give me another level of security. I figured that the odds of someone going up to the second floor to burgle the room were less. But I never really felt uncomfortable or unsafe anywhere.

I really don't like the All Stars. I've stayed at Movies and it just didn't feel that fun to me. And I also didn't love the fact that the busses were shared between all three of the All Stars (I went solo at off, less busy times).

now that they have finished AoA - have been really expecting them to do it. but so far - they have not. of course that lake has turtles in it - not fish (or I have not seem any) like the other resorts. Disney might think that standard views are more likely to go to the parks vs preferred views. but who knows what will happen - I certainly don't. Pretty sure most turtles are protected in FLorida.

The turtles are really neat to see! I remember on our last trip a man was dropping small bits of crackers/bread into the water, a ton of turtles came up to the surface!!! Really cool. Anyway, i guess we'll just wait and see if anything happens. All we can do is hope they leave it as is! Im still laughing at the room changes they made recently....pool view, preferred pool view, preferred, like seriously!?

For a solo trip I prefer to stay at Pop Century as long as my budget allows. The All Star resort can be a few dollars less depending on the season. I feel that Pop Century has better food options. It is also within walking distance of the Art of Animation and its food court. Personally I feel the resort is also more centrally situated to the parks and Downtown Disney.

As for a moderate resort either POR or POFQ make a great choice. For many of the same reasons as Pop Century. Plus you have the boats to Downtown Disney which I just enjoy the relaxation of the ride.

Another vote for Pop here! I have stayed 3 or 4 times and I always travel solo. I consider Pop my home base resort. I like to request a lake view, ground floor in either 50, 60, or 70s. Those areas are fairly close to transportation and the food court. I also like that the grounds are very well lit at night so I feel comfortable when I come dragging in at 1am after closing MK. I have also splurged a few times recently and stayed at PORS and last trip CBR. I also felt safe and loved both of those resorts. I had a car when at CBR and probably NOT stay there without one because it is so big.

Of the values, I prefer POP over the All Stars as a single woman traveller. I find the lighting is much better at night. I don't pay for a preferred room but request top floor, 50s building, lake view and it has worked out very well. My room is just a safe place to sleep and shower in the morning as I am in the parks all day. I tried All Star Music last month for something different and was not impressed with the lighting. Basically, there did not seem to be as many dedicated outside lights along the paths. Also, I noticed more blown bulbs and less maintenance. I was lucky that my request for the Jazz Bldg was honoured so I didn't have to walk deeper into the resort for the Rock, Broadway or Country Bldgs. The busing system seemed more efficient at the POP than at Music as well. I would definitely return to the POP again. I have also stayed at POR and also Wilderness Lodge. Both are beautiful resorts but I regret not having the time to make proper use of the amenities. Because I was in the parks all day :tiptoe:
