Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Awesome news on the pool...thanks for sharing. We just booked a Studio Villa for an end of June stay....first time at the Poly, can't wait!

I wonder if cabana costs will go up? Does anyone have the link to most recent pricing?

My friend called yesterday to reserve one at Contemporary for our upcoming trip in April and for the whole day it was $230.

I'm really getting excited about our stay at the Polynesian in April. For those of you who have been there before and are fans of the resort- what is it that makes you love the Poly?

I called the Reservations Centre to see what would be involved in switching my reservation at the Polynesian to the Grand Floridian or Contemporary. The CM I spoke with was useless. He tried to tell me that the most of the construction at the Polynesian was finished two months ago (!) and the only area impacted is the volcano pool. I told him that is just not true, and that I follow Tikiman's Polynesian Resort page on Facebook, on which there are daily updates with photos submitted by people currently staying there showing extensive construction throughout the property. I also mentioned how disappointed I was to learn the resort's special features, like the torches and piped in Polynesian music, are also inoperational. He didn't know what to say, so immediately began trying to sell me on the Grand Floridian. I was so frustrated with the call I gave up. I may just cancel altogether and book through Orbitz, which is much cheaper, since I'm not getting much in the way of customer service from Disney.

For one, the accessibility to the parks. Being next door to the TTC makes it better than even CR IMO. MK and EP are an easy monorail trip away. And if you compare the bus ride to HS vs walking or boating from an Epcot resort to HS, they are basically the same in length of time.

I like the decor in the rooms. And the space and layout (more just a deluxe resort thing in general)

The 24 hour Captain Cook's (grill is only open until 11, but you can refill mugs or get something from the grab and go coolers)

pineapple dole whip!

and I think it's mainly the fact that it just feels like home…besides Fort Wilderness when I was a kid, it was the first resort I stayed in onsite. Only resort my husband's family stayed in when he was a kid. The one resort I wanted to stay at when I "grew up" after seeing it on a trip to the luau. We've generally stayed at the Polynesian every other Disney trip and I've loved each and every time.

I've only been once. Just simply fell in love. Mostly, it's the theme. I love how it's sorta kitchy. Love the little things like getting a lei at check in. And saying Aloha! all day long when you communicate with the CMs. And I really like being on the monorail. Love that it is very casual feeling as well.

Depending on where you are at the Poly, anywhere from 4 to 8 minutes or so. (At least pre-construction.)

Is the monorail up and running regularly now? And will there be easy access to the TTC from the Villas? Meaning no construction in the way?

For the most part, the monorails are running normally. There are occasional short-term disruptions though. I haven't been to the Poly while the construction is underway, but from what I read on these boards the walkway to the TTC has been re-routed but is still available.

I got a great rate of about $200/night during labor day. This is a standard view room. Now that the east pool will be down and according to Tikiman, there will be extensive construction; what house (s) should I request if I want to be away from the noise?

Your best bet would be to request "not near East pool construction".

We are going in October staying GV CL since there will be so much construction on and around the east pool what are the chances we won't be directly facing all of this? We will have a 9 year old and an 18 month old, the baby will need midday naps. Should we just forget CL for this trip if we want to stay at the Poly?

Hi, We will be staying at the Poly mid-July. this will be about our 10th trip to Disney, but the first time staying on property. My 6yo son is obsessed with the monorails. what would be the best building to request for a quiet room (away from construction) with a good "monorail" view. Convenience walking to the pool and monorail is also a factor, but not as much as catching a glimpse of his fav ride.

Thanks!

I am thinking that it might be available from the DVC villas if that area's open once they open the DVC buildings next month...? I know Tokelau won't be open yet and may have walls/screens around it, but I would assume the area between the other 2 DVC buildings would be free of construction...?
