Wine and Dine 2015

Yep, you are right--just saw that thread, too.

I guess I was thinking of that time frame because it was the Rebel Challenge that DH was registering for and I knew it went really quick. We tried Early Registration for that one and it was sold out in less than 7 minutes--I hit the registration/pay button during early at 7 minutes after the hour and it was full--and that was all events, not just the Challenge. So this one went a little longer than SW did, at least in early registration. I would think the demand for this would be less than the Inaugural SW, but who knows. DH is only doing this one for the Coast-to-Coast since he did SW, so it isn't one he would typically sign up for. He likes the TOT better, but even if that one were happening this year, wouldn't count for his C2C, anyway.

I saw that! And people LOVE Star Wars, too, so I'm sure that explains that!

We're doing this for C2C as well. Worst case, one of us gets in through regular registration and the other goes through a travel agent. I was going to use points at the Swolphin for a hotel, but if we have to bite the bullet and pay for two nights at a host hotel ... I guess we'll do it. We'll have already gone to California for the DLH, so we have to do this one or else it won't be "worth it".

As an aside, some people on the Facebook event page are raising a stink because someone on the phone told them there were only 500 spots in each race available as early entry ... that seems REALLY low to me, but maybe that can explain why things went so quickly this morning?

I totally understand that. :( I will say that I think you'll likely have time to get in like Ariel484 said. I want to say that W&D last year sold out in a few hours and that was for an anniversary year that typically goes faster, so hopefully you'll have at least until the end of the day. Hopefully you can get a free moment in that amount of time to get registered. It's just hard not to get freaked out when you are waiting. I totally get that! :goodvibes
I'll mostly likely be able to get on less than 15 minutes after it opens. That shouldn't cause me to be stressed, but I just imagine this mass sign-on at noon and everything gone immediately. Especially with all the factors coming into play (people being shut out today, no TOT, trying to get the Coast-to-Coast, etc) I just really want to get in and waiting 2 more weeks is torture.

Make sure you Bookmark the link I posted above and use that straight away!

It will say FULL right up until it actually opens (about 5-10 minutes before registration), but it will alleviate the stress of having to deal with RunDisney crashing while you try to wait for the link that way! That's the actual registration page. No need to go anywhere else! :D

Got myself and DH registered through DVC. I think it went active about 11:57. Active didn't let me sign in either, instead had to fill in all info. Then I couldn't see where to sign someone else up so I had to checkout myself and go back to link and through it all again for DH. If I had known the small window of time I had I would really have been freaking out! So glad that is done. Good luck to everyone on the 17th!

All set - registered for another run of it!

It just irritates me that some people participate in literally every runDisney race and take up spots, while some people never get to do one. I mean, give some new people a chance!
I understand your frustration, but I don't think it's up to us to opt not to do a race we love so that someone else has a chance at it. That's asking a bit much. I understand that it's hard for some folks to register because of other commitments - I've been in those types of jobs, too. Is there a friend or family member who can register for you when it opens to the public? Several of my friends who can't access a computer during the day do it that way.

One thing I noticed - it specifically says you don't have to have an Active.com account to register. I know we had to have one for DLH - is this a new change? Does this possibly mean RunDisney will be eventually going away from using Active altogether??
Nope, I've never needed an Active account to register - I just follow the link from rD's page and fill in the info on Active. No need to create an account.

How important is it to be able to print when you finish registering?
Not at all important! I've never printed - just check that I get my email confirmation.

I am soooo confused. I went through the entire process right at noon! I entered my payment and then it told me to contact active customer service about the status of my registration. So I tried to register again, was told "Attention! This person is already registered for that category!"
Hang tight and see if you get a confirmation email or cc charge in the next few days. If not, then try calling and/or emailing rD. I think they really got smacked today and it may take a day or two to shake it all out. Hang in there!

Im worried about getting in, its for my first race and first race with my husband! Should we just go ahead and book with a Travel Agent or hold off to see rates with our military discount?

I'd hold off and see if you get in with regular registration on the 17th. If you don't, you'll still have opportunities to book through other agencies, but if you do, then you have the option of using your military discount. I think it's worth trying in regular registration for the discount you would get on the room, etc.

Well that was fun. Great story here guys - I FINALLY got through to rundisney on the phone after they hung up on me a ton of times. I finally went through the event info option and got someone. Who put me on hold and checked with his supervisor. Then he came back, admitted there were errors with the website and he didn't know why I got that, that it was their fault, but that I am not registered. Sorry, better luck next time. End of conversation. I was beyond shocked. I mean that's not Disney customer service, I get better customer service at Wendys. At this point I was really ticked off so I calmly told him they really need to figure out a new way to do this because via active is very clearly not working, thank you, goodbye. *slams down phone

I then called back my new bff I made today at Active.com, who gave me some fun info. He is more of a customer relations guys on the race client end as best I can understand, but they got slammed today with the error and I happened to get transferred to him. He said they opened 2000 spots - except wait no - someone loaded it as 20 (yes, TWENTY) spots at first. (So, maybe I ended up submitting in the midst of them correcting that??) He said it threw off the system and it had to recover. I took a photo of the website when it said I was already registered and could not register again and he told me to email rundisney and send them that. He also asked me to email him later this week when they respond and he recorded my wait time for when I called rundisney to try and figure it out, as well as who I spoke to over there? I didn't know why but I was sure angry so I said sure ok here ya go!

So after all of that, he said he can't add me on the back end because rundisney closes them out when the number is reached. But, he did tell me they are scheduled to release 18,000 spots on the 17th.

Yikes! What a mess!! So sorry you got caught up in all of that. :(

Thank you, I really appreciate that. It is just so sad when they reacted like that. Even with how many people they upset with these race registrations every time, we all still go nuts and sign up so there is no reason for them to change anything. Now, I'm just trying to not go crazy waiting until the 17th and hoping I get in and this type of thing doesn't happen again. I upgraded to an AP just for this race so that could be an expensive mistake...

Wow, you really got hosed on this one. The (costly!) things we put up with for Disney.

The plot thickens...someone from rundisney just called me. He said that they are going through their records and this same thing happened to multiple people, but less than 100. He said he is hopeful that there is just a problem on the back end of the website and the registrations actually will go through in a day or two...I told him they should make an exception since it is clearly an error on either them or active and it is so few people, and further explained to him I took a photo of the page telling me I was already registered and he gave me an email address for his superior and told me to send it to them because he believes they should make the exception but he doesn't have clearance. He said he asked them, and was told to just start focusing on the 17th.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you!! Hopefully they will make it right and you won't have to even worry about the 17th.

That said - 18,000 slots on the 17th? They're definitely increasing capacity for this race then ... last year, there were only 14,650 bibs issued.

Hoping someone can give me some more info on the travel providers. Is getting a travel package the only way to get a registration? I'd be fine with a package if it included the hotel, but it looks like they include park tickets too. I wouldn't need that since beginning in April I'll have an annual pass. If getting a ticket is necessary, do you have to use it that weekend, or can it be saved for another time? I want to have the option of going through a travel provider if things don't work out on the 17th, but not if I absolutely have to buy a package with a park ticket that I won't need.

In general when I deal with Active if I get an error I immediately just retry until I get a success or a valid entry. I can always have my credit card company charge back duplicate transactions. But yes its a very frustrating site, and as someone who works in that field there are better ways of running a site like that and coding for race registration. But the core of the problem is simply that demand is so high and supply is so low. Years ago you had MONTHS to get into a runDisney race (back before it was called runDisney).

I believe both Get and Acclaim are offering Wine & Dine bibs with just a two-night hotel stay at a host resort. If you go to either website and fill out the race registration form, they are very prompt and helpful.

Yay! Welcome!

Thank you :) Figured it was about time, now that I can log back in again (wow, this new setup is going to take some time for me to get used to). Just really hoping that I can actually get in for this. It's a bigger commitment since it will actually involve travel for me. The events at DLR are so much simpler being in my backyard.

I feel the same way about events in Disneyland! My husband wants to run Star Wars again so its going to take a lot more vacation time and cost for us than multiple WDW trips do.
