Pictures of things No Longer Seen at WDW

There was once a preshow before Honey I Shrunk the Audience that used the song True Colors. It was sponsored by Kodak and we always liked it more than the main show itself. I wonder how many remember it?

I don't have pictures and couldn't find much except this:

I definitely remember the butterflies in the pre-show.

Yup I remember it too although I had forgotten it was on before HISTA :)

And the really nice tennis center that went with it. Now, I think they salvaged just two courts. When WDW was in its infancy and there was just one park, the "Vacation Kingdom" aspect was really played up and tennis in the U.S. was just starting to take off. The tennis center was a big deal. No more.

Here is a link to a thread I posted some years back, Linda. The video links from others do not work anymore, but the audio link in the OP does work.

8-Traxx was OUR place! Just about every night after the parks! We miss it!

Before 8-trax it was called "Cage." An alternative music club with a mix of grunge, new wave, punk, goth, industrial, etc. It was fun, but I figured it wouldn't last long at PI.

I was wondering if anyone was going to pick up on that it was the Golden Girls' house. I was so sad when they tore those down.

Seeing that replica of the Golden Girls' house was probably the highlight of my mom's trip to the Studios.

OK. I'm cheating here. But back when the MK was the only park, you had to look outside the property to find other things to do.....like....

Xanadu: Home of the Future!

We stayed at a small mom & pop motel next to Xanadu when it was on its last legs. The motel had free admission tickets for the taking, but we declined. Xanadu looked pretty skeevy by that point.

Seems so... Only Segway remaining is the one at Fort Wilderness. (If memory serves)

Glad we did the one at EPCOT a few years back. Now we plan on the Fort Wilderness Segway on our next trip.
(Want to get it in before something happens... )

When I did my internship at EPCOT in 2000 all of the higher level managers used segways to get around the park. Wonder if they still do?

So aesthetically pleasing back in the day before that eyesore Tower. Absolutely stunning! And I do remember when all the various recreational activities were promoted as being a part of a WDW vacation. We always stayed off site as a family in the early years for $$$ reasons but I always dreamed someday I'd actually be staying on site! It took me 33 years but my first stay on site was at the Polynesian in 2005!

I do remember the POTC before they changed it. Not only were the men chasing the women but the big banner read "Buy a WENCH" instead of Buy a Bride. I seem to remember some brouhaha regarding it. Also, I can't remember because everytime we are get to that section we don't hear it. The overweight bride the guy is trying to sell, when the auctioneer names a price, does someone still yell "are you charging by the pound?" I figured they may have changed that too.

Yes, the auctioneer still says that.

OMG. THAT WAS MY FAVORITE. When I went in 2013 (my last trip had been 2006, but I didn't look for it then) I searched all over Epcot for that. I was so devastated to find out that they got rid of it. RIP Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit

Kitchen Kabaret was gone long before 2006. According to Wikipedia, it was replaced by Food Rocks in 1994, which was then replaced by Soarin' in 2005.

Now that Tink has moved to a new spot in Main Street her fairy friends all seem to have flown away. It was fun meeting different fairies with her and watching their interactions - Peri & Tink's wings even sparkled because they were near each other! I do wonder why the fairies don't have a bigger presence in the parks (the original ideas for Fantasyland Forest had been rumoured to have included an expanded Pixie Hollow meet & greet area).

In Oct 2013 we were lucky enough to meet Rosetta, Terence, Vidia (@MNSSHP) & Periwinkle on different visits to the Magical Nook in Adventureland. Vidia was fantastic!

Xanadu: Home of the Future!

At first I thought I went to this Xanadu. But after I thought about it, I was at the one in the Wisconsin Dells in '81 or '82. Man, I thought that house was SO COOL and I knew when I grew up I was soo living there in my round bed.:rotfl2: I wish I could find pictures we had of it. My mom must have them somewhere.

Back to WDW. The thing I miss is characters roaming the park. I don't have a picture to share, but hopefully someone else has one. :earsboy: I do recall Pluto pluto:putting his arm around me by surprise way back when. We waved to each other as we passed by, thinking that was it. Only to have him turn around and sneak up on me a minute later. It happened so fast I did not get a photo, but it's a great memory I cherish. ::yes:::love:

Do you know where? I'd love to check it out next time I'm there!
I can't tell you a street name, but it is inside the gates on the side that faces the Fox Theatre....I think. We were there for the 30th anniversary of 1984 team night last June and I saw it then.
