Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

Have spent hours looking through this thread and have a couple questions. I'm just wanting a sort of 'frosty' glittery color over the bands without really changing the colors, just want to soften the color and add sparkle. Would you suggest using a clear glitter nail polish? Any certain brands that you have liked? Not sure if the clear would have the the effect I'm after or if I need an actual color with glitter polish. Also, I've read posts about top coat polish cracking. Would it be best to use just a clear polish over the top rather than an actual top coat? Or a base coat? Again would love to know what others have had the best luck with. And if I apply gems, or flat back pearl stick-ons, which is what my dd wants, I've seen people have had good luck with super glue. Would I also want to put a clear coat of polish over the tops of these to help seal them, or not necessary? If I outline the Mickey Head with fine tip sharpie, and then go over it with nail polish will this seal the sharpie or smear it? Thanks! Trying to get prepared, for our MB's when they arrive in Feb. Very jealous of the talent of so many of you! I'm NOT crafty or artistic, and need someone to tell me exactly what to do:upsidedow

I've used a clear glitter polish on a couple of bands although it's been on top of another nail polish that I wanted to add some sparkle to. I'm not certain how frosty you're looking for but would say if it's just to add a little glitter than use the clear but if it's "frosty" then I'd look for a white glitter polish to take a little edge off the band color and add sparkle. The clear really just adds sparkle.

For my top coat I have both a base coat or a combo top/base that I've used and both have been fine. The reports on sharpies is that they seem to smear when you do a coat over them - I've actually had that happen with deep nail polish colors too. I think a couple people have said if they let the sharpie dry for a day or two they had better results but I've personally just outlined with polish.

We leave tomorrow, assuming our flight can get out with all the snow we've been having. Here are the bands I did for this trip. All are acrylic paint with DuraClear gloss varnish. There's also another band with the castle and fireworks (just a duplicate of one I did last time), two of the Epcot ones, and a small world clock tower that's only half finished.

These are awesome! My favorite is the Up one! So cute!

I added a sparkle nail polish over mine (just one I got from 5 below) and also used e6000 to glue gems onto my band. I did not use any sort of sealer or base coat over it. After a week in the parks, it all held up great. Since it was just a sparkle polish, there were some cracks but you couldn't see them because it was clear. I did not lose any gems!

Love all of the bands!!

Our twins bands were getting pretty worn so I thought I'd spruce them up a bit. These tattoos were from Target and it only took about a minute or two for each of them.

Has anyone used carbon tracing paper to trace on a design before using nail polish or acrylic paint? Just wondering if it will work on the material the band is.

Here is my trick for transferring my artwork to the bands...
First, I apply my base coats of nail polish.
Next, I draw the picture on white tissue paper (the kind you use in a gift bag) with a pencil.
Once drawn, I trace back over it to be sure it is as dark as possible.
Then I turn the paper over, position it where I want it on the band, and rub over the entire thing to transfer the drawing to the band.
Then I paint it with acrylics or nail polish.

I am a very very unartistic person. I came across an article on touringplans.com that links to a couple different website. Unfortunately, since I just joined the boards yesterday, it won't let me post the link :confused3 But if you google DVC Central, that should bring you to the website.

Cheers.

HockeyMomNH....what are you using for paint and sealer on those? They look awesome. Our bands should be here soon and I'm the designated decorator. Love love love the Cinderella mouse one.
I finally convinced my mom to come to WDW with me and my DD15 in Feb. She requested a character from a classic Disney movie, and she is a sewer, so here is what I came up with.

Thank you! I use acrylic paints on the bands. I was using a nail polish base coat as a sealer, but I have just switched to a spray acrylic sealer instead. The base coat held up well, but I have found that over time it starts to break down. The bands that I did last summer have a white film over them which seems to be from the nail polish. It rubs off, so I'm going to try resealing them so we can use them again.

Can you tell me the brand name of the spray sealer you like? DH did this movie strip band and used a combination of acrylic paint, nail polish, and sharpies. Ugh. I love the band but it desperately needs to be sealed before he wears it.

Those bands look terrific! I love the movie strip one especially.

I have been using Plaid clear acrylic sealer in gloss. I got it at Walmart. It seems to be holding up really well and is much more flexible than the nail polish.

Thank you so much, everyone who's contributed to this thread! I fly out in 2 days:woohoo: and leave for pre-early-morning-flight-hotel tomorrow night! :dance3:
I had some trouble getting my bands because the name I go by and have in MDE (middle name) was not the same as the name on the reservation (first, for DVC/legal reasons), but I called IT and got it sorted out.
The bands arrived last week, and the decorations went on easily:

...

If I remember, I'll report back on how they held up.

Thanks again everyone!
So to report back, the blue one held up beautifully. No chips/cracks/peeling/etc. My gray one got a couple of very fine cracks at the points where it bends sharply, but nothing peeled or chipped. They weren't tested in water parks as originally planned (uncooperative weather), but the gray one did get in the hot tub for half an hour. :)

Ya'lls talent is amazing! Mine was super simple. DH has not worked on his yet, he is going with a Pirate theme so as of now it is just grey but I think it will be a map.
The tattoos I found for Minnie fit perfectly over the Mickey head here!
My son's orange goofy is probably my favorite but we used stickers so I am not sure how it is going to hold up... and they are already cracking (used Sinful colors clear)
