POTC...please tell me it's not true! :(

I have a trip booked for August, and I just read on several websites that POTC is closing for an extensive refurbishment and won't open back up until the holidays. POTC is one of my all time favs! Does anyone know this for certain? WDW has already announced that one of my favorite restaurants (LTT) will be closed while I am there as well.

I've also seen this reported, but I wonder if it's confused with DLP.

It's not confused with DLP. Pirates in WDW is in terrible condition it needs 6 months at the least. The rumor is 4-6 months down. Phil Holmes WDW VP wants 4 but it really needs 6. Many of the affects and animatronics just don't flat out work. The audio has problems as well. The boats were originally for Disneyland but they didn't work there and WDW took them. The boats aren't properly working with the flume. Many times CMs have to push boats that get stuck or boats behind them have to bump them to get them moving again. The problem is WDW can't take something down for more than a month or people will go nuts. Disneyland can have things down for a year and no one cares. DLP is getting two refurbs for pirates I believe one this year and one in 2017 to fix their major issues. Disneyland's and DLP version of pirates are much longer than WDWs.

So in referencing my comment in the thread about the price increase, apparently we do have a key closure coming up this year. Assuming of course that this is confirmed and not a rumor.

Kick the prices up and cut back the service - way to go Team Burbank.

Yes this is not confirmed yet but lots of rumors are out there about it. But this is a necessary cut back in service. The ride is 40 years old and hasn't really ever received a large refurb its in desperate need of it. Think of disneyland right now. They have practically everything worth riding down for refurb. Yes it's for the 60th anniversary but i would not want to be traveling there right now. Refurbs are necessary every once in a while. Yes price increases aren't but price increases or not refurbs are needed. This is a major problem all across WDW. Why don't you think the yeti hasn't been fixed, it would take a good 6 month or so refurb to get it fixed. When things are closed majority of the time ride wise it's not for more than a month if that. But Disney can't do more than a month because you can't ruin everyone's once in a life time vacation. That is the me tactility of Team Orlando. Let it go until it basically can't go no more. It's said that there were plans for a refurb of maelstrom but instead they went with frozen.

Yep. And car prices go up every year too, but you still have to take them in a get the oil changed once in a while.

A 6 month down for maintenance only impacts the people during those six months. If not riding POTC is such a huge take away, schedule the trip when it's open.

I was disappointed that Haunted Mansion might have been down for my last visit. It opened early, which was wonderful for me. That said, I was split on the closure.

For me, it was all good, I'd just see it on this year's visit. For one in my party, I was more disappointed because it could have been his once in a lifetime.

To an end, WDW just needs to get folks used to long closures. If everything were closed for long closures consecutively, there will always be one serious closure with most else open. Short closures just aren't a big deal.

I sort of think the Yeti may move again toward the end of the decade after the Avatar attractions distract guests. That is if they haven't totally written it off as just not worth it. The average guest has no idea there is anything wrong.

And that's exactly why they aren't in a rush to fix it. Only those who rode it in the the first year or two before it was broke know what it's really supposed to do.

It's unfortunate, yes, but these rides need more than just a couple of months. Disneyland is way more aggressive with its refurbs, but at least their animatronics and effects work most of the times and the rides look better maintained overall. Although I can understand that World is more of a ''once in a life time'' experience for people all around the world, whereas DL's locals can withstand a couple of closed rides.

But if this is the only major ride closed at this time I really don't see this as a big deal. Would you rather have a bad experience on a ride or not ride it at all? That is the point pirates is at.

I do agree with you. If a ride needs an entire year to work and look properly, then take the whole year and fix it. It simply has to be done.

Oh I have no disputes with the maintenance. It's the shutting down of an attraction while at the same time raising prices that gets under my skin.

Its Disney they are just going to keep increasing prices. I think the problem should be is they keep rising prices why can't they fix these things to make sure they work properly. Disney used to be a company where if something didn't work or wasn't show ready it wasn't used or fixed right away. Today they wait until the last possible second to fix these things and do it as cheaply as possible.

POTC sucks at WDW. It's a shame that they built such an abbreviated ride over there. The ride is also falling apart at DLR. Several show elements have been removed (I'm assuming for repairs). They don't use the back row of the boats either.

My list of refurbs at WDW doesn't include POTC yet. But if it's down when I go back in July, sobeit. I won't miss it.

I was just there last weekend and POTC was up and running. It was different than the last time I rode it. It's much more like the movies - lots more Jack Sparrow. I though it was in great shape myself. Haunted Mansion was also in service and I could see that it had also been updated. We had dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern and it was SUPERB! They even gave me the recipe for the Johnny Appleseed cake. All in all, I don't remember anything being out of service or down for refurbishment except for Splash Mountain and Cinderella's Castle.

It may appear in good shape but how many things do you know for sure were not doing anything that were supposed to be doing something. Did the mist screen with projection at the beginning work that is very problematic. Also doesn't sound like you ride it very often to know what's supposed to work and what doesn't if you just realized their is more jack sparrow. The ride hasn't changed in years. The boats also tend to carry a lot more water than they used too. The boats don't always use the last row for various reasons either. So many problems that many don't even know exist.

Could be worse. Head over to Hollywood Studios and check out all the abandoned buildings there..
Empty is better than broken and still being used. At least those building aren't open and being shown. POTC is open every day with things that don't work.
