Our DIS Runners
Post below once you've registered for the 5K, 10K, Half and/or DDD to be added to our list of fellow DIS runners.
Last year we had just under 70 DIS-Disneyland runners, how many will there be this year?

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm a bit silly when typing months sometimes. Will go fix it now.

ETA: Fixed!

I plan on running it again! Another Dumbo for me! :joker:

This year we'll have a more formal meet-up! :thumbsup2

And the 10k is on my birfday!!!

I'm considering doing my first race this year, but I'm not sure if it will work out. I'd want to do the 5k, but I don't know if I'll have classes on Fridays next year. So I could do the 10k, but I don't know if I'd be fit enough by then :rolleyes1 Also, I'm not sure if I want to go alone. My mom, who's the real runner in our family, has always wanted to do a Disney race, but it would just be such an expensive weekend for her...So a whole lot of maybes for me!

You know me! :rotfl2: I am so excited for this weekend; dare I say more than Tink? I can't wait to see what's in store for the weekend. Not sure if you're keeping track if hotels too, just in case I'm at BWPPI.

DH and i are seriously considering doing our first half marathon together. Neither of us are runners, but i think it would be a good goal to set for ourselves. A couple of questions:
1. Any chance Pinocchio's workshop opens up early to accommodate runners with children?
2. Our AP's are blocked on sunday, so ideally I'd like to run sunday morning and then take an early afternoon flight home after the race since we cant go to the parks.DH is worried it will be a hard on our bodies to sit through a 3 hour flight, and then for him to drive another 4 hours home. Is he going to have major spaghetti legs making travel difficult, or will be just be a little sore and tired?

Not sure about #1, but tips on #2. It could be hard on the body. If it was just the flight or the drive, it wouldn't be too too bad, but together might be a little much. If that's the only option that works, I would make sure to really stretch afterwards and ice bath it as soon as you get back to the room. Drink lots of water, wear conpression gear on the plane and get aisle seats so you can walk around the plane a few times. Also try to stop a few times driving home to stretch as well.

Me!! I'm in!! My husband is running with me as well - well, he'll be running far ahead of me!

My 2015 Resolution/Goal was to run a distance race every month, with the pinnacles being the DLH and Wine & Dine to get a Coast-to-Coast medal.

So - yay!

:thumbsup2 Great to see you as always Kim! I'm a lot more excited for this one too, but it's also 4 days before my birthday this year and the 10th anniversary, and the 60th for Disneyland. It's gonna be crazy fun.

And I will add hotels this time as well, for those who want them. As soon as I start updating the list (when registration actually opens). I need to figure where I'm going to stay for this one, probably only for the one night (Saturday) though.

Just a random stranger on the Internet, but I'm here to say that you can certainly train for a 10K by early September. I did more or less the same thing for the same reason: I wasn't sure I could manage a run on Friday.

When I signed up I had been walking about 2 miles per day at a pace greater than 16 minutes per mile. I had started running with the couch to 5 k program, but wasn't much faster than my walking speed. Then I took a month off for open heart surgery!
I finished the 10k and wasn't swept and am now hooked.

The important thing is to put in the training every week. If you do that, you can finish with a smile on your face. Best of luck. -- Suzanne

There is quite a bit of time before Labor Day weekend, which means quite a bit of time to train! If you get yourself moving consistently I don't see any reason why you couldn't get yourself ready for the 10K by September. I'd say go for it!! And you'll have all of us here to support you, as well.

And as far as going by yourself, keep in mind this runDisney community is pretty tight. You may start the weekend alone but meet a lot of awesome people along the way that you'll have great conversations with!

For the Star Wars 10K this weekend my friend and I spent quite a bit of time in the corral before the start just chatting with the people around us. We ended up catching up with one of them around mile 3 and ended up running the rest of the 10K with her and kept in communication for the rest of the weekend. It was a lot of fun! It's never quite that lonely.

My wife and I will be there. She is going for Coast to Coast and is planning on doing the Dumbo. Her parents and myself will be doing the 5K.

Echoing what others have said - you can TOTALLY do a 10k, theworldneedscolor! You'll really be amazed at how your body can adapt and get stronger just by doing 30 minutes of walking three times a week!

I started following the Galloway plan about 7 weeks ago, and I'm getting ready to run my first 10k this weekend. I'm not fast by any stretch, but I can finish the distance fairly easily and within time constraints! And prior to this, I've "run" exactly four 5ks before in my life, so I'm never going to be considered a runner.

The Disneyland Half group over on the W.I.S.H. board is also incredibly supportive! And quite a few are training for DDD, so I'm sure you'd have someone to do the 10k with from that group.

Hi, I'm looking to do my first 10k at the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend, my son and I are using that as a goal to get us in shape (I need it, he doesn't :)). However, I'm a little concerned about it selling out. I know registration is Feb. 10, but do any of you veterans know at what time of the day registration begins? If I register right at that time will I be able to get in? Thanks!

If you have an AP or DVC, there is early registration. Don't know the exact date, but Jessica has it in the 1st post. If you are doing regular registration, that will open at 9am PST. Generally you would have some time, a couple of hours, to register for the 10k, but b/c this is an anniversary year, I would be on the computer a few minutes prior to reg opening and just refreshing the page until the links pop up. If it does sell out before you get a chance to reg, travel companies will have some spots. Get Travel and Pat Stone are used the most and it's reg price plus a 1day/1park tix.

We're in again :thumbsup2 Going for the half this time around!

For those wondering about doing the 10k distance, I say go for it. I did the 5k and the 10k last year as my first ever fun run experience. In January I was diagnosed with a condition in my legs that meant that I would never be able to run more than about 15 seconds at a time (it had never been a problem before because I had never tried to run!). In March I had quite major in both legs surgery to fix it. I was basically bedridden for about 2 weeks, then had to start very gently building up my walking, starting with 5 minutes, or walking in the pool. In May, I was finally able to start adding a little bit of running, and did the first week of the C25K program. Then my gall bladder got infected and I had to have that out. I couldn't start training again until the start of June. I had to really look after my legs all the way through, and even a half hour run took me well over an hour by the time I factored in my warm-up, cool-down, stretching, icing and massage :rotfl:

I'm incredibly proud to say that I completed both the 5k and the 10k with my husband and parents by my side, from the last corral, and never saw any sign of the sweepers. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and has changed me forever. I'll always be very grateful to RunDisney for introducing me to the world of running, and giving me the motivation to have my condition diagnosed and fixed.

Registration opens at 12pm EST. Last year the 10k sold out within an hour. I was at my computer ready to go when registration opened, but the RunDisney website crashed and I spent the next 45 minutes refreshing the page trying to get through. The only reason why I managed to get our registrations done was because RunDisney put a direct link to the registration page on facebook. I highly recommend having both this thread and facebook open while you are trying to get through so that you don't miss any important information like that. This year is likely to be even more popular being an anniversary year for both Disneyland the Half Marathon weekend.

I don't want to scare you, because if you're prepared, it's likely that you'll get in. I just want you to definitely be prepared!

If you don't get in, there are options available through travel providers and charities.
