10/28/15 - 4nt. Halloween Magic Double Dip from Miami

As we have had a couple of people state an interest I will start off the FE list.
Due to the new rules on here the FE has to be run entirely on disboards and not linked elsewhere, also people should only share as much personal information as they are comfortable with. So I propose to keep a simple, no fuss list that I will keep updated within this post.

If you are interested in joining the FE we just need to know how many people (adults/children) are in each cabin with child ages for age appropriate gift giving.

Any other information you would like to share such as names, allergies, favourite characters etc is upto you.

Cabin numbers can be added nearer to the sailing date.

FE gifts are entirely up to the givers discretion with regards to value, whether they are individual or cabin gifts, or if you give one gift per cruise or per day.

Closing date for sign up is October 1st 2015.

Yay Joy! Thank you for taking the reins :).

We would like to participate as well.

jadedjojo- Jodi and Paul (both adults), from FL

I'd like to join the FE!

Myself (Mollie) my husband (Wayne) and our daughter (Pippa) will be three at sail time. From Ohio!

I would also like to join in on the FE. I'm new to cruising, so you'll have to help me with the details.

On our cruise will be myself (Sheresa), my husband (Rick), and our daughter (Madelyn) who will be 5 at the time of our cruise.

I have added you to the list, welcome.

FE EXCHANGE - the basics

FE stands for Fish Extender. Outside each stateroom door is fish:rolleyes1 which used as a kind of letter holder. People who join the exchange make or buy a sort of organiser with individual pockets for all the family and hang it on the fish.

By signing up to the exchange you are agreeing to give gifts to each cabin on the list and in turn you will receive gifts from each cabin. If large numbers of cabins sign up then the list can be divided in to 2 groups, this usually happens at the 25+ mark.

What you give is up to you, many people buy things others make them. What you spend might depend on how many cabins join. There are numerous Internet sites with make your own fe gift ideas. A popular idea is to give gifts that are from your home town, state or country etc. for example part of mine will be sweets/chocolate (candy) that are English and not generally available in the US.

You can choose to give a gift that is for everyone or give individual gifts for every cruiser. In the past if I have done a shared cabin gift I would probably do an individual one for each child alongside it.

Things to consider; luggage space, cost, prohibited items (candles, homemade food etc), age appropriateness.

Some people put name tags on, others give gifts anonymously.

Hope this helps a little.

Can any of you Americans advise me on buying football tickets. I am hoping the Dolphins will be at home on the Sunday that we disembark. When are schedules released and when do tickets go on sale? My husband loves American football, I'm not too bothered but want to experience it. I know Miami Dolphins are in London a few weeks before we sail but seeing them at a home game would be really good. Is there anyway of predicting whether or not they will have a home game that weekend? Any info appreciated, thanks in advance.

Sounds like a great idea. The 2015 NFL schedule will be announced sometime in April 2015. Good luck.

Perhaps if the Dolphins are away maybe the Jaguars will be home. Jacksonville is about a 4 hour drive to Miami.

I was just asking Don about the schedule and his answer was the same as Johnny Quest. He also declared that if the Dolphins are playing the Steelers we may head down early and hit the game also.

JoyB-UK. Thank you for taking care of the FE list. Not sure I'm participating this trip but will decide in the next couple months.

Poison and I just booked the BWV for 3 nights pre-cruise. We will drive from WDW on Tues. morning and spend the night in Vero Beach and drive into Miami day of cruise.

Joy, thanks for organizing. It's much nicer to have the FE right on the meet pages. We will let you know later if we will participate. Waiting till after our May, Alaska cruise.

I know that the Eagles are going to play the Dolphins next season. Wouldn't that be cool if the game were in Miami on that day...although I would rather be in WDW.

Thanks, I will start looking in April and buy tickets as soon as possible if there is a home game. The Jaguars are at Wembley on Oct 25th so I think they will have the next Sunday off.

No problem, I'm just keeping a simple list for people, I don't think these things need over complicating.

We haven't booked anything but the cruise yet. Not sure what day we are flying in. That week in October is school holidays in the uk so the transatlantic flights are at a premium. Virgin and BA have just released prices and it's not good. It maybe that we fly in mid week the week before and leave on the Monday after disembarking. I'm waiting for Nowegian air to release their prices before making a decision. Dave and I are flying to Florida in February whilst Maya is on a school skiing trip to Austria and we are trying Norwegian then. Reviews are very mixed but I'm not expecting perfection for the low price I've paid.
We will definitely have at least 4 nights at Disney and drive down to Miami very early on the 28th. One of Maya's school friends is going to WDW that week so I'm waiting to see which hotel they book so the girls can spend some time together. I think Wilderness Lodge is favourite at the moment which will be nice as we haven't stayed there before.

Has anyone done the Castaway Cay 5k before? Will it take place on both days?
Maya really wants to take part and I have said I will do it with her, only one problem - I have never run in my life. Oh dear.

Maya isn't a runner either but she is fit, she plays cricket for Yorkshire and rounders for England so with a bit of training she will have no problem. I on the other hand am overweight and haven't done any competitive sport since school. But I am up for a challenge and like setting goals, so I figure that as soon christmas and new year has passed I will begin.

Anyone here done it that isn't really a runner? Was it very hard? Hot? Worth it?:worried:

We haven't done the CC 5K so I can't give you too much help there. I know some people actually just walk it during the run.

JQ and I were thinking of doing a 5K in Disney a few yrs ago and downloaded the "couch to 5K" program. All was going well and we had quite a few sessions in as we worked to build our endurance. That was until I hit a few obstacles - shin splints and lower back pain - so we decided to give it up.

but it was a noble effort and we really enjoyed it!! I would highly encourage that program for beginners.

Thanks for that. I did a search for couch to 5k and it came up as a recommended NHS program with an app I am just downloading. Our last Christmas social event is Sunday dec 28th so first thing on Monday 29th it will begin (snow and ice allowing). :scared1:

Hi all!

My DH and I just booked this cruise. Glad to see the meet-up thread and FE list already started.

We definitely want in on the FE. Robin and Kevin, both early 40s no kids, room 6152.

We have a sort-of-group that's at about a dozen people right now. We all met on the Dream in Oct 2013, then six of us were able to schedule another Dream cruise together in Oct 2014, and it looks like a bunch of us will be onboard for this cruise, too. The past two years we did a small meet-up before sailaway, and then a pub crawl the first night with Disney trivia, which was a great way to meet people (as you can tell, since we'll be sailing together for the third time :) ). DH and I generally try to sail around this time, as our dating anniversary is Oct 23 - we can never celebrate our wedding anniversary because it's about the time we have huge deadlines at work, so instead we celebrate our dating anniversary in October. this cruise in 2015 will be 21 years!

I'm a little apprehensive about going on the Magic, as even the Dream is pretty small for me (we usually sail on the large royal caribbean ships, like oasis and allure of the seas), and because the Magic was our first cruise and was a disaster (though to be fair to disney, they had only been sailing for six weeks at the time we took our cruise!). But I know the FE, pub crawl, etc will keep us occupied, and we're excited for the double-dip at CC.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome to our group. I have added your names to the FE list, thanks for joining. Looks like we will be neighbours on the cruise as we are in 6652.

The Magic is big enough for a 4 nighter, it was our first ship and seemed huge at the time. One of Allure/Oasis/Anthem or Ovation will probably be our next ship. We have been on Indepedence and coming back to the Magic after that made it feel tiny. I want to go on the Fantasy (if only for the Muppets detective game) but after that we probably won't sail with Disney very often. When we are sailing as adults only in just a few years time I'm looking towards Celebrity as our preferred cruise line. All our cruises with Disney are on the Magic and each time we have discovered something new to do so I would not worry about it lacking in things to do.
