Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

I'm happy to see that they will at least do the screen print on an 8"- I've read that some places require a 10" in order for a screen print to be placed on it.

Maybe that's why part of Lilo's face is cut off because it is meant for a 10inch cake. It was a good size cake, we actually brought the rest of it home and I think there is 1 piece left. I really wanted a 6inch but they said that it was too small to decorate.

They should've at least told you that beforehand :confused3

How did the cake taste? We have a great bakery here that has spoiled us :rotfl:

It tasted good, I've had much better here at home though. But I live right outside of New Orleans so I think most food is better here than at Disney, lol.

Lurkyloo, would post #592 be considered a mini cake and would you be able to order it separately? TIA for any advice!

Are you talking about the cakes I posted? Neither would be considered a mini cake, the Rapunzel cake was an 8 or 10 inch cake and the Ariel cake from CRT was a 6 inch cake. You can order it separately from the package and at the time the cake was $60 +tax and gratuity (price could have gone up since last year)

Hi all! I too am trying to get a cake for my little girls birthday. It's our 1st trip and she will be turning 7. We are eating at CRT shortly after our BBB appt. on her actual birthday and I thought it would be awesome to surprise her with a cake . We are staying at POLY-CL and to my knowledge, they do not have a bakery on site. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

CRT is going to be so special! We've done a cake there, and it was delicious - we did lunch and they sat us up and over (ok, that means little, away from the windows - but to dd she thought she was part of a stage! lol there was just the 3 of us!)

keep in mind the cake can't be kept there at CRT, you have to make arrangements to take it back to your resort, eat it all - share with tables near you? or you could get a locker at the entrance area of MK and place it there? (we took ours back)

Even though they're not minicakes, you could ask for a minicake to be decorated in a similar style. It would be too small for, say, that Ariel figurine, but they could do something inspired by that cake.

Poly can do basic cakes or the Grand Floridian can do fancy cakes and deliver them to the Poly. In case you decide not to order a cake for CRT...

Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering a cake for my son's birthday to be delivered to the grand Floridian (we are dining there on his birthday)

We don't really like fondant or buttercream - I've looked earlier on this thread and I see you can have a cake covered in chocolate ganache instead. Looking at the options available at GF and vanilla cake with raspberry mousse and white chocolate ganache sounds amazing!

The question is - how much decoration do you think they'd be able to do on ganache? My son is Star Wars mad and I'd like a themed cake - but do you need to have a fondant covered cake to get this type of decoration?

Has anyone had a custom ganache covered cake made?

I will be ordering a cake from the Contemporary!

What is the smallest double layer cake I can order ? One that would feed 8 to 10 people ? What size would that be ?

If I want the outstanding Haunted Mansion cake (see post #565) delivered to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for our ADR, would I call Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary, or AKL, which is where we're staying?

Forgot to post my cake! This was ordered from the contemporary for cali grill. It is a 6 inch non fondant custom cake. It was delicious! It was yellow cake filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries.

They can probably pipe an inscription over the ganache. Alternatively, they could screen print an image on white chocolate and stand it on top of or next to the cake. When you place your order, they'll tell you what exactly is possible. :thumbsup2

Do you mean a cake with two tiers? All of Disney's cakes have multiple layers inside, but most of the ones people order are only one tier. Disney will tell you you need an 8-inch or a 10-inch cake. But their fondant-covered cakes are quite tall, so you don't have to cut the pieces very wide. I think you'd have no trouble feeding 8 people with a 6-inch cake. You might want to order an 8-inch just to be on the safe side if you have 10 people.

They like you to call Wilderness Lodge first, explain what you want, have WL tell you that you need to work with the Contemporary because it's beyond their abilities, and THEN call the Contemporary. :rolleyes2

This is exactly the sort of cake I want to order for next month! If it's not too rude to ask, could you tell me what the cost was for this cake?
Thank you

Would you mind sharing how much was it. I am trying to do a custom cake and the price was more than i expected and I am wondering if me sending a picture of a cake i wanted to mirror may have confused them cause it was two tier and I only want a 10 inch.

Only the premade "podium cake" 6-inch cakes are $23. A custom cake costs more.

Oh ok- could we get by with under $40? We just want a standard 6" cake with Mickey ears in buttercream frosting. No fondant, special decor, or any custom flavors and fillings.
