We're Staying OFFSITE! An October '14 PTR!

Yes, I don't know that I'll get BOG dinner. :( I've had lunch there a few times myself and loved it too! That turkey sandwich! Mmmm.

I have moved over two dozen times in my life. Trust me, you're lucky. I can't even imagine living in two places - that's like a year for me in the past. The last five years have been better with moving, but mostly.... I'm a mover.

Home situation is figured out but I'm nowhere NEAR packed!

I really liked the pork roast at BOG which is something I dont normally eat. You still may be able to get a dinner reservation, you may just have to flexible is all.

I do feel lucky living so close to family, but I'm ready for a change! I'm open to local move too just for a fresh start!

When is the actual move? Do you pack a little each night? I can't even imagine packing up my house, it seems daunting! Will you be starting a new job or transferring jobs?

One little update: I got our rental car!

tumblr_m4qryyAyRX1ro8qpo.gif

For HALF the price I was expecting! :bitelip: I couldn't believe the rate! I was expecting around $300 for the week (I don't know anything about renting cars, ok? Only did it once.), but through Costco it was just a little over $150.

Plus we get the extra driver free, so both mom and I can drive - that means she can tackle the highways if need be. :thumbsup2 This is exciting news, because it means everything is booked except my flights (waiting on SW points from my new SW CC). I am so nervous about the points getting on my account soon enough to book my flights to match my mom's!

Only question now is do we get the tolls prepaid or not? It seems like it would be easier to get them prepaid, but MUCH more expensive I think. I will have to figure that one out.

It feels so awesome when you save money, especially on a trip! That's really nice that you & your mom can share the driving duties! I've never heard of the prepaid toll rods!

We're definitely willing to be flexible.

I really miss my family; I've lived away from them for many years, so I'm moving back!

My actual move is still pretty far away. I'll start packing a little at a time in about a month. It is a daunting task but it's not my first rodeo. I will have to get a new job; part of the catalyst for the move is that my job is being changed and moved. Fortunately, I subscribe to the Suze Orman school of thought and have several months of savings plus all of the money for the trip put back already!

The "prepaid tolls" thing is where you buy a toll pass from them, and then you go through the speed tolls instead of stopping to pay. When I last went it was like, $30 for the duration of the trip. Tolls would probably only be around $5 - $7 for us, but if you miss a toll or if you get off on a wrong exit or something it could really add up since you have to pay for each missed toll - something like $25 each! So if Mom and I paid $15 each we could not worry about it - or we could proceed with extreme caution and just HAVE to make sure we hit each toll and paid. I haven't decided yet, but I have plenty of time!

Thinking about the trip tonight!

What have we done in the past that we liked?

Well, I liked surprising Mom with a stay at CR, but with the VIP tour we're doing, I won't be doing anything like that this stay! The tour will take up the "extra fun money" we had set aside.

What else did we like?

We loved the short September lines, and we love Splash!

We love ToT:

So we'll be riding this via FP+ and on the tour at least! What else?

We love Illuminations, so we need to see that:

We just love being together at WDW!:

Yeah we really love Tot:

So what do we really NEED to do this trip?

1) We need to see new Fantasyland.

Mom only got to see it at night at MVMCP last November, so I want her to get a good chance to look it over. Plus we definitely need to go to BOG if we can (no luck yet) and ride 7DMT. I am hoping we can get FP+ for that! But if not, the tour will cover it!

2) We need to ride the Mexico ride.

Yes, Mexico. It's a favorite. I'm trying to get a San Angel Inn ressie right now.

3) We NEED to see the MNSSHP fireworks.

We decided to ride BTMR three times in a row on our party night in November instead of watching the fireworks, and I regret it! Nothing that weighs on me or anything, but I would have liked to see the fireworks better than we did, and give up riding the rides with no lines instead of rushing onto more rides we can ride anytime.

4) We need to RELAX and CELEBRATE!

Not sure how I missed that fact that you had this little pre-trippy going, but I'm here!!

I'm so sorry for all you went through a couple months ago :grouphug: That's bound to take a toll, physically and emotionally. So glad that you were able to walk away from the accident.

You and your mom are going to have an amazing time!!!! Can't wait to read more :goodvibes And I'm sooo happy for you that you're moving closer to your family!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by! All the things going on - booking the tour, buying MNSSHP tickets, waiting for my SW points for my airfare - has gotten me so excited! I definitely wasn't looking forward to my last trip like I am this one - it's so different to go solo vs. go with someone else. Plus I had just been through a lot before the last trip; thanks for the hug. :grouphug:

One thing I'm sad about is missing out on the extra time I had planned on being solo. With the crowds being projected higher and higher, and the fact that I probably will be in the middle of a job search, I just shouldn't spend the extra money and time at WDW to stay for a few days by myself, after being there with mom for a week already. If I luck out and end up with a job quickly, I will extend then. Maybe even rent some points last-minute! But I don't think that will happen. I'm ok with going on this trip without a job because the money is already mostly spent and set back, and I have a good sized emergency fund; otherwise, I'd cancel.

I'm so excited waiting for my next trip that I've been thinking about doing a TR for my May trip! Yes I know it's late, but better late than never, right? ;)

It is nice to be near family...most of the time :lmao:

That's awesome that you have a good savings for the transition period! You must be an accountant or afinancial guru?

So this sounds like a prepaid easy pass? The inlaws have one for the toll roads for the turnpike here.

The new VIP tour sounds really cool, but it seems expensive since cost of admission is not included. Not that cost would rule it out for me, but DH isnt the biggest fan of coasters. DH had several knee surgeries & TOT & SM really hurt his knee.

Do you know where your going each day?

Yes, agreed; I'm apprehensive about being near my family again, because I love them all very much but have become much more private living far away. Can't be private in my big, rollicking family! :rotfl:

I just like to save money - I watch Suze Orman every Saturday on CNBC and follow a lot of what she recommends to do. Thank God I do, because with the accident and then the move, I could have been in a lot of trouble.

I guess that's what it is - a prepaid easy pass. It would be like 5x more expensive but would give peace of mind. I probably won't decide until Mom and I talk more about it.

I know a lot of people are upset with the cost of the new tour. For us, we like to do something special on our trips and we were having such a cheap trip so far that the cost was not a problem. We love the idea of hitting all our favorite rides on one day so that we can take it easy, knowing we get to ride them at least once. And we're both really looking forward to having a VIP guide that can give us lots of info on our favorite rides. We could do all the rides in one day by ourselves most likely, but that's not the point. Disney does a great tour, and that's what we're looking forward to the most!

That's terrible that your DH had to have so many knee surgeries; even worse that ToT hurts him! That's in my top five favorite rides, I'd be so disappointed if I had to sit it out! My Mom has had one knee surgery, to repair something that was torn; I don't remember what it is, but she does great after her surgery so I think it was very minor.

I am working on where we are going each day; so far, I know arrival day is MK (there's a MNSSHP at MK that night, so we'll be calling it an early night since that's not the night we're attending). Day 3 is the tour, so we'll be at three of the parks on the tour and then Epcot for Illuminations that night, and day 5 is our MNSSHP so we may go indoor skydiving that morning and then head over to MK at 4. I'm working on the rest of the days right now!!

I'm not upset at all about the price of the tour, I really think its so much fun on vacation to do the extras. I just think the price of admission should be included. I'd love to do one of the tours, and was thinking of trying one of the 4-5 hrs behind scenes one at MK or the Behind the Seeds at the Land. I think having a tour guide seems so awesome. I heard the lunch for the VIP is a WCC, is that true? Have you ever done a tour before?

So day 1 MK
Day 2 ?
Day 3 VIP tour, end at illuminations
Day 4?
Day 5 Skydiving!!! & MNSSHP

So which day are you trying for bog dinner? Day 1?

Skydiving sounds awesome!! Is this where you dress in parachute jump suit & float over wind tunnel? You must get pics of this!

Are you dressing up for MNSSHP? DH was a pirate & I was Minnie last year, we had a blast, but we were hot. Especially DH.

I hope you don't think I was saying you were upset about the tour price; I have just seen some threads where people are saying Disney is getting greedy with the costs of these tours. It is definitely high, but not much worse that Backstage Magic! Lunch is included, and my understanding is that it's at WCC; I've never been! And I read somewhere that the tour could be for up to 40 people, but they told me 20 - guess we'll see. 40 people is a lot of people to put to the front of the line, but they can do what they want, I guess. I'm there to hang out with my Mom; I'm not too concerned about other people on the tour - but personally, I don't want to make anyone's wait for a ride much longer. I wonder if we'll ride something like 7DMT before the park opens - we meet for the tour at 8 a.m. but the park doesn't open until 9.

I did do the Segway tour and it was so much fun! My "Around The World on a Segway" tour of Epcot is here, here, and here, if you're at all interested in reading about it.

Tentatively, after today, we're at:

1) arrival and MK; BOG possibly late (like 6:30 if I can)
2) Open at HS, afternoon at Epcot. Early night, maybe San Angel Inn this night if we can.
3) Tour at MK, HS, and AK; night at Epcot.
4) Possibly AK in the morning; we're talking about a waterpark and that might be this day.
5) Possibly indoor skydiving in the morning; if not, MK in the morning and MNSSHP at night.
6) Sleep in morning; HS in the afternoon.
7) MK in the morning; possibly Epcot in the afternoon.
8) Open a park, probably MK but possibly HS; departure day.

My Mom really wants to skydive, so this might be something that we can do now for her to try it first. We're just considering it right now; it IS the one where you dress in the jump suit and float.

We probably won't dress up for the MNSSHP - unless we do Mickey tie dye shirts!

Joining in! Yay October trips!

Firstly, HUGE congrats to your mom on the weightloss. It is not easy to do and its fantastic that she is keeping it up!

You are awesome for following Suze Orman and making sure you have the savings. Most people don't and it just leads to difficult times and places. We aren't your level but the DBF and I are working on. :hyper:

Offsite is great! Saving money and you can still have a great time. While there is only a little bit of Disney in it this TR from Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina is a fantastic offsite trip report and its at the Vistana too!

VIP tour?!! Awesome! I think that would be fantastic to do! As well as indoor skydiving! Love that your moms to do it!

Happy that you decided to pick back up on the PTR!

Yay for October trips for sure!! Thanks so much for coming on over! :welcome:

Thanks so much for the congrats for my mom. She is my hero for sure. I'm so glad to see her getting healthy and taking such good care of herself; I hope to have her around for many more Disney trips. :goodvibes

I really enjoy personal finance; I've offered to do budgets for people in my family (my personal budget is done in Excel and it's about 25 tabs!), but most people are close-lipped about their money. It's too bad, because there's so much we can learn from others about our money if we just ask. Good luck to you guys; I definitely recommend Suze and her books! I did try YNAB for a trial run, but I was not impressed - my budget is better. I do not do a $0 budget, though; I budget out all my expenses for the year, and saving money for emergencies and for trips are non-negotiable and come out of my paycheck on the day I get paid.

That TR you mentioned is one of the reasons I decided on the Vistana Resort! Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina is very persuasive! :bitelip: I researched about 6 possible time shares, but this one looked the best and having her TR to look at really took me over the edge.

We're very excited about the VIP tour. This is also a special treat for my mom, who got a great job recently and wanted a splurge beyond the Halloween party! When I saw this tour announced, I knew it was for us. We're thrill ride junkies, so taking on all the thrill rides is a great use of a day for us! And ending the day with Illuminations will be awesome! I'll just set up FP for Soarin and we'll single rider on TT, and we would have hit all the major rides at all four parks in one day, plus our favorite fireworks show!

We're just batting around the idea of the skydiving right now. Mom was very excited about it; me, I don't know. It would be fun, and different, and I like that. I just think we're already spending a lot on the tour and the MNSSHP too... if it ends up in the budget, so be it.

Don't worry! I did not think you were thinking I was upset about the VIP prices! I'm a very easy going, go with the flow kind of gal! I saw the "Disney is Greedy" thread myself. My view is that Disney is not a charity (though they do great charity work), they're a very smart company & figure out what people want & how they can get people to pay for it. Sometimes I think the extras are expensive & wish I could afford to do them all, but I can't. I think some people's jealousy sets in & that's when upset threads pop up. Jealousy is total normal! I think your tour sounds awesome, but dh is not a thrill seeker & with his bad knee would just not be a good fit, now if I were alone..... My thing is that We love the deluxes, and there's so many threads about what a waste of money they are for a place to sleep & shower! We're not commandos, so we really take time to enjoy the resort. To each their own...:teacher:

Your tentative park plans sound great! I didnt realize you were there 8 days, that's awesome! The days that you park hop will you go back to the hotel for breaks or just stay all day? Is San Angel the one in the Mexican pavilion? If so we ate there 1x, but I was sick & could not taste my food, but DH loved it.

I have to tell you that DH & I are not costume people, I honestly can't remember us ever dressing up in a costume since we've been married, but doing so made the night so fun! DH had so much fun planning his costume pirate:before the trip. Our only problem was we were thinking late oct nights would be a little cooler, but it was unseasonably hot when we went last yr. so DHs long sleeve pirate jacket & long pants were hot! I totally say at least do the fun shirts with your mom because it looks great in the photos!

I agree with you - I sometimes wish there were certain things I could do but can't afford. I would love to take the kids in my family and do a VIP tour someday, but I'd be footing that entire bill and will never be able to. Or I'd like to be able to stay club level, or in an MK view at CR, but just wouldn't spend the extra. I love the deluxes too, and I think if you enjoy the resort they're totally worth it!

Some days we will go back to the hotel, some days not. It really depends on how mom is feeling, and I love me a good Disney nap. I guess we will determine on Monday how often we go back to the hotel, as we'll know more about how long it will take.

Yeah, October nights are just as warm as the days! I agree it would look good in photos; there's a thread with step by step instructions to do the tie dye - we're pretty crafty, so I guess we'll see!!

Days of Disney

We've got EIGHT count 'em EIGHT days of Disney this year and we plan to take advantage of every one!

Day 1: Arrival Day
We'll get in around 1. By the time we land, get our luggage, and get our rental car, I expect we'll hit the resort around 3/3:30. Drop off our luggage, and head out to...

Magic Kingdom!

Where we'll be trying to ride:

It's a party night, so it will be a short night for us - we probably won't get there until at least 4/4:30, but it will be perfect because we can ride a few rides and then head to the grocery store! I'd really like to eat here, but we'll see:

We'll need to rest up for day 2:
Rope drop at Epcot / night at HS!

Here in the morning:

Here at night!:

I will be setting FP+ up for TSMM, ToT, and probably the Muppets at DHS for this night. We will probably spend most of our time riding ToT, a favorite for both of us. I can usually ride this about four times before feeling woozy, so we'll go with that.

We won't be staying for Fantasmic (STILL haven't seen it) because we have an early day the next day for our VIP tour, Ultimate Day of Thrills!:

Day 3:

More later!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision to make time dedicated to watching Hallowishes! It was the highlight of my MNSSHP experience last year. When it reaches the finale and the "panoramic" shots go up, it's absolutely breathtaking. :thumbsup2

I'm like you, I'd love to take the whole family & I'd love to try CL!

I'm also all about the Disney nap! I'm all about getting to the parks early & going back for a good Disney nap or swim in the pool, then go back to the park in the evening. That's why I love staying at YC/BC, it all a quick walk/boat ride back & I love SAB! I'm bet monorail resorts are awesome for this too.

Not only was it so hot in oct, but dec was 89 degrees! I bought a cute sweatshirt on my May trip last yr thinking I could wear it a lot on fall trip, I wore it 1x & sweat to death!

Do the shirts :laundy:! I want to see pics of them when you're done!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision to make time dedicated to watching Hallowishes! It was the highlight of my MNSSHP experience last year. When it reaches the finale and the "panoramic" shots go up, it's absolutely breathtaking. :thumbsup2

We watched Hallowishes back in 2011 and it was spectacular. We were at MVMCP last year when we missed the fireworks and I was sad. ha! We just have to find the right spot to watch them; I have a weird claustrophobia issue - as long as I don't see the crowds I'm ok, so for fireworks we have to be pretty far up in front.

Disney naps are awesome! It's funny, I love YC and BWV and CR, but I don't care to stay at the Poly or GF or WL or any of the other periphery resorts. I love walking to resorts, but the monorail always makes me a bit nervous since it breaks down - I'd rather take the ferry, for example.

I have gone to WDW in January where it was freezing cold at home and it was in the 80s in Florida. It was so wonderful; I only packed one sweater that year so I'm glad it was nice and warm or I'd have been recycling clothes the whole time! It did get chillier, but it was nothing compared to Chicago - my plane was one of the only ones to land at O'Hare due to ice that trip. I lucked out that I made it home!

Here are the instructions for the shirts. I talked to my mom about them today and she said YES she really wanted to do them so we could wear them to MNSSHP!

Day 4:

Day 4 will be an up in the air day. We may go indoor skydiving this morning, or hang at the pool, or even go to a waterpark. We may also go to AK in the morning and relax the rest of the day:

Whatever we do, we plan on relaxing.

Day 5:

Tonight is MNSSHP night! We may open MK this morning and then go back for lunch and a nap, then come back to attend the party. We also discussed AK, or the pool again, or a waterpark in the morning. We will decide this later. I want to get FP+ between 4 and 7 on our regular tickets for PoTC:

SM of course! (Mom's wearing the white hat; I'm in the white shirt):

And BTMRR:

I have to tell you that YC is my fav resort, I'd gladly stay at BC as we did on last trip when I wanted YC so bad, but no openings. My Dec trip was at WL with my sister & nephew, and I really liked it. I was surprised how much I liked it & I loved having the boat to take to MK. I liked it so much that I told DH I'd be totally open to split stay there & YC. I you may surprise yourself & like WL when you go to WCC for tour lunch, the lobby is breathtaking! Especially if you don't like the monorail.

I checked out your link for the tie dye shirts, very cool! What colors are you thinking?

I found a tour that I wish that they had at WDW & a great price to boot:

This would totally sell like hot cakes at WDW! What do you think?

YC and CR are my two absolute favorites but I would stay BC too. I will definitely keep my mind open when we go to WL for lunch. Part of what I loved about AKL was that beautiful lobby, so maybe WL will pull me in!

I was thinking orange and pink, but maybe just orange if we're going to wear them to the MNSSHP! I think any colors would be nice - blue and green maybe? Mickey head would be black of course. :)

I saw that blog about the DL tour. That would be a madhouse at WDW; there would be so many people doing it that everyone would be doing it!! I would do it! A nice, short, informative tour plus five fastpasses, plus a lanyard and pin? SIGN ME UP.
