7/14/2014 - 12-Night Mediterranean Cruise (with Greece) Venice to Barcelona

My DD (Jessi) has asked if everyone would pass on to their early 20's travelers to meet in Fathoms at 10pm on the first night. It looks like there are at least a half dozen and the over 18's would certainly be welcome too.

Thanks
.

After Dinner Drinks - how about we just plan embarkation night after dinner, at 0'Gills, at 10PM. If it works, we can simply make that a daily libation and story spot. When you first walk into the lounge, there's a large bank of booths on the right hand side. The Club 18*21 college crowd mixer usually starts tucked into the other side of the room around 10:15 too, then take off somewhere.

Sounds good to me! :drinking1

I just feel bad for people who really DO want that FULL day till 5ish PM they had planned and might get it cut short by 2 hours just because of this discrepancy.

I cancelled my 8hr tour with Viator because it is scheduled to depart at 9:30 am! No way to be back to the ship by 4:30.
I sent an email to DCL but they looked at my NEW reservation for a 4hr DCL excursion and told me I had nothing to worry about. Which wasn't really an answer to my question ... :confused3

Not sure I understand the last part. You never have to worry about a DCL excursion - that's perhaps the only reason to book them instead of a private one.....:cool2:

Since DCL had listed some 8hr excursions, I asked how would people on those excursions get back to the ship in time.
Viator guarantees travelers would be back to their ships on time DEPENDING ON THE INFORMATION GIVEN BY THE TRAVELER concerning time in port. Since I cancelled my 8hr excursion with Viator and eventually signed up for the ship's shortened excursion, DCL did not address that hypothetical situation. :scratchin :sad2:

The Viator excursion was more closely organized to my interests than DCL's. And less expensive (I had already paid for it.) :rolleyes2

Now I DO need that drink!

MPS - Jessi may be interested to know Disney has a college-aged meet and greet type of mixer, usually in O'Gills to start the week off, around 10 to 10:30. Fathoms often has an opening night mixer at either 10 or 10:30. The CM uses the interest level on the first night to help gauge interest on how many will be coming to the college activities, and plans accordingly. as the med cruises usually have a pretty decent college age ratio onboard the ship, I wasn't sure if she wanted to bond with just the Dis'ers, or meet young adults from outside of the group as well.

Kathy, how about an ouzo??

UPDATED MIXOLOGY INFORMATION:For those interested in a private Mixology class-- DCL got back to Linda who is on the ship now, saying July 16 should be fine, though they have not committed to it and they have not committed to a time. I am concerned that we may miss the opportunity to make this work if we don't get the information to DCL as soon as possible. Reminder of how this works: they can do it as long as we have 25 people, and we can have up to 40. Once you sign up there is no refund of the $15/person charge, which will be charged to your shipboard account. Again, I don't know the day and time, but we asked for July 16 in the afternoon. IF you want to sign up even with the uncertainty of the time, here is the form where you can fill in your information:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1qia1nhYWQygFnB0UjS9hKnQnHw3NsfMOQ3xFhJxq0-M/viewform?usp=send_form

Linda is still trying to get a commitment on date and time from DCL, and I will pass that along as soon as I have it. Unfortunately, only the first 40 people to sign up will be able to do it, and if we don't have 25 people, we won't be able to do a private Mixology session, so you'll have to look for information to sign up on the Magic for the regularly-scheduled Mixology class whenever they are offered.

I emailed the directory yesterday to everyone who has elected to be in it. If you did not receive it and should have, please let me know as that means I may have overlooked your information or mis-typed your email address. :)

thanks for letting us know. You said there was a ton of interest in it. If you need two spots for family members or someone not able to log in until night, feel free to send me an email; we're just as happy to let someone else go in our spots.

No worries!! As soon as we know when it is scheduled, I will let you know. :)

Thanks, I think she is hoping for a little more active group. Our last MED they had about 4 of them doing things and on Panama just fellow DISERS, college group never met.

hey, that's my son too. on our last Med cruise it was a very active group, only my son didn't get involved until the end of the cruise. When he did, he found out it was like 80% girls and kicked himself. he's tried to go to others, but the school vacation weeks are miserable for the college kids.

The initial college meets have been listed in the Navigators for the couple of med sailings, so I would expect it to continue for ours since it's only two sailings away.

Can you imagine??? almost out of double digits!!!

MIXOLOGY SIGN-UP IS NOW CLOSED!

DCL has requested the list from us. Thanks so much to one of our fellow cruisers for handling the logistics while she is currently on the ship. We are at 36 people, so it may be that DCL would allow another 4 from our group to sign up, but I can't be certain of it. If you missed the sign-up and are interested, please message me here, and I will see what I can do. In the meantime, everyone who signed up is now in a non-refundable commitment to this. We are tentatively scheduled for July 16 at 3:00 p.m. I will keep you posted.

You can definitely get better deals and more variety with non-DCL excursions. I almost always choose the DCL excursions purely for the "hassle free" aspects. I don't have to worry about meeting time and place. I don't have to worry about getting back to the boat at a certain time. More than once I've been with a group that was delayed for one reason or another, and knowing the ship would wait eliminated the stress.

It has to do with individual priorities - there's no "best" approach.

Maybe a silly question, but does anyone know if the "air conditioned motor coaches" that DCL uses for port adventures (particularly in Athens and Ephesus) have bathrooms on them? I'm guessing that is a U.S. luxury, but would be nice to know, especially when traveling with children.

So, we are totally new to cruising and signed up pretty late for this trip. But we are so excited! Is it too late to participate in the fish extenders? We have kids 12, 10, and 8.
