A TS sharing question

If my husband and I go to, say, Mama Melrose for dinner, and we are on the dining plan, but all I want for dinner is an appetizer, while he would like an entree and dessert, can we use one TS for this and pay for the appetizer OOP? Sometimes, all I want is an appetizer for dinner. I'm not saying I might not sneak a bite of his dessert, but I would anyway . .

Yes. Just tell the server at the start of meal who is using the DDP and who is not. I've done that more than once and it's not been a problem. The one caveat is that VN will not allow sharing (using one DDP credit to feed two people) when paying with the DDP. If you said you were only going to eat the appetizer (and not take a bite of anything of your husband's), I'm not sure what would happen at VN.

Also, in terms of sharing/using one credit to feed two people, you cannot "share" at buffets (e.g., Chef Mickey), family-style/all-you-care-to-eat restaurants (e.g., 'Ohana), fixed priced meals (e.g., CRT), dining shows (e.g., HDDR), or dining packages (e.g., Fantasmic dining package). Pretty much the standard places were sharing is normally not allowed anyway.

I'm not sure what VN is, and who would think that one TS would be OK to use for two people at a buffet? But what would happen if I took a bite of my husbands entree? Absolutely nothing. Seriously, is the server going to swoop down and wrest the bite from between my lips? Call out from across the room by the waiter station 'Cease and desist, craven foul wretch, and belay your forkful of lasagna, for 'tis forbidden by our Mousey Overlord, and woe betide thee if thou should but swallow the merest morsel!'.

Really.

VN is Via Napoli...they serve pizza and lots of folks ask if they can share an individual pizza. VN has instituted a policy that they do not allow sharing when using the DDP. So hence the note a out sharing in my original answer.

Not at the buffet specifically, but you'd be surprised at the questions some folks ask. I have see people ask if they can share all you care to eat platters, if they're family member that eats like a bird could just share a few bites from an all you care to eat/fixed price meal/dinner show/dinner package, etc. It does come up...

But what would happen if I took a bite of my husbands entree? Absolutely nothing. Seriously, is the server going to swoop down and wrest the bite from between my lips?
For one bite or a tasting, probably nothing. If you did opt to share after being told the policy (like at VN), my guess is they could charge you two credits. Remember, this is about VN specifically and not most of the a la carte TS locations.

I doubt it, but it would be kind of funny. :rotfl:

At Via Napoli they'd probably just charge you another dining credit. Of course they would tell you right off when you ordered that you each needed to use a dining credit.

But outside of VN, you should be fine. When there were three of us at Yak and Yeti, we ordered one appetizer OOP and then just used two credits (so 2 entrees and 2 desserts) to split without any problem. When we asked our waiter, he said the credits were ours to use as we wished (barring the buffet/AYCTE/dining show/VN policy).

My BF and I plan to do this 50's PT in December, ordering an app and splitting an entree and dessert and then at Yak&Yeti again. If you are unsure, ask!

I shared at most places with no problems - you can see my dining report in my signature.

i only ran into issues once - at T Rex. We wanted to share 3 credits between the 4 of us. Told the server and she took our order and went off. 5 mins later, she came back and told us sharing would not be allowed. We spoke to the manager and still no. We were prepared to use the 4 credits but ended up leaving because we did not want to eat that much food.

At Whispering Canyon Cafe, DH and I split a meal while the kids had the kid skillets. The waitress was fine with us picking a few bites from the kids skillet meals. Heck, she even put some refills on hubby's plate to "hold" it for the kids. We were pretty conscious of the fact the kids had all you can eat skillets so really avoided abusing that. And we tipped as if all 4 of us had ordered.

At Chefs de France, DH and I had eaten a quick CS meal in Japan so it was just the kids eating. Our waiter insisted on our eating piles of yummy baguettes (we couldn't resist!!) even though we told him we had already eaten elsewhere.

Servers at the vast majority of places were great. Many even split our meals into different plates.
