We bought direct this past year and I was thinking of adding on with a smaller contract. My question is if I buy through timeshare store will it make that much of a difference? Will it count towards the points I already have ?

It depends on if you but the same use year and home resort. If those are the same as your current contract then it will all just become one. If you have different UY it is 2 separate accounts. And if you have 2 different home resorts then only the points for the home resort you are booking can be used for the 11 m booking window the rest if your points wouldn't be available till 7 m.
Hope this make sense it took me a while to figure it out myself.

just to clarify, they would function as one account, but both contracts could still be sold or willed separately.

BTW, they really also need to be titled exactly the same way.

and while it's easier to use them at 11 months out if they have the same home resort, that part is not essential. (if you have 2 different home resorts, they are kept separate until the 7 month window opens as stated by Minnie100.)
