AKL question

So sorry for all the questions. I thought I had it all planned out to purchase 110 points via resale at AKL. This would allow us to stay in a 2 bedroom value at the end of August (220 pts) every other year.
However, I read that there are only 5 two bedroom value rooms. Now I am thinking my chances would be slim to none to get this room even at 11 months out? We are a family of 6, so this would have been the cheapest option.
I could always get enough points to stay in a 2 bedroom standard view, which still requires lesser points than any other resort. Are there an adequate number of those rooms?
I like that AKL has a longer use year than OKW...otherwise I am torn between those 2 I think.

There are 10 2-Bedroom Values at AKV Jambo House, there are only 5 2-Bedroom Concierge Level units at AKV Jambo House. All 2-Bedrooms in AKV Jambo House are Lock-Offs (1-Bedroom & Studio w/interior connecting door).

that's actually club level - there are only 5 club level lockoffs.

but it's true that value is not much better - there are only 10 value lockoffs as far as 2BRs go.

standard view rooms are available at both kidani and jambo. if you are booking in the home resort window, i think you'll be fine. booking at 11 months out, you'll probably get a value 2BR at least some of the time (especially if you waitlist) but buying enough for standard would be a safer choice.

"expiration date" (not counting the extended OKW contracts), yes. :)

Remember points requirements can and have changed over the years at most resorts. DVC is required to adjust the points requirements, going up in some cases and down in others to maintain the same number of points in the resort per year and fill all rooms at 98% every day.
Most on the DIS recommend you allow @10% more points now than you think you will need every year, for the above reason and cause your travel dates/requirements/etc will mostly likely change over time.

Take this to mean "occasionally". During busy DVC times, the values are gone exactly at 11m and sometimes prior to that. Example - you want to book Sun -Fri, but others have already book Sat to Sat so there's nothing left. I have not tried waitlisting, mainly because we end up going to another resort. And we have yet to snag a value, after 2 years of ownership. I did get one for next April spring break, right at 11m. But that's not a popular DVC time.

With that said, late August is not a busy DVC time. And it's not a busy Disney time. You may have much better luck. But will your vacation schedule change in the next 5 or 10 years? I'd say buy SSR and plan on booking an AKV standard at 7 months. It's the most cost effective route. Plus a standard 2bedroom at Kidani will have 3 bathrooms. We've never had a problem booking standard view at 7months out.

Thank you so much everyone. Can DVC members use amenities, pool, etc. at both Kidani and Jambo?

anyone staying at AKV (either kidani or jambo) can use the amenities at both kidani and jambo. it's considered one resort.

(you didn't ask, but i'll add that DVC members cannot pool hop to AKV if they are not staying there.)

As far as Disney is concerned, it's one resort made up of two buildings. Those staying at AKL/AKV can use any of the standard amenities at either building.
