Disney Wonder October 11th, 2015 5 day Baja

That's a good question. On our last cruise, the disboard group kind of petered out as most people jumped to facebook. But then it wasn't an overly active group anyway...

If there's enough interest, there could be an FE exchange set up here as well, and people could choose to do one or the other (or both I suppose :lmao:)

And just as general info, yeah we're in for any alcohol tastings!!! :drinking1

I saw your username and realized I've been following your TR on Wonder! :)

Out of fun and curiosity, I was curious about a couple things (especially since a lot of us are booking to avoid the airfare). I'd like to start a fun little poll with my answers attached! :surfweb:

1) What city and state are you from? Harbor City, CA (Los Angeles area)

2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports? Hurray...drive to San Diego! :drive:

3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you? Five (finally get to be gold when we do the 2 night after our cruise is over!) :cool1:

4) What category cabin are you booked in? Category 9C ocean view

Hope to hear from a lot of you! :yay:  :cool1:

OK, I'll start this off...

1) What city and state are you from?
Elk Grove, CA

2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports?
Hurray...Hopefully cheap SWA flights or it will be driving to San Diego! We needed to stay closer to home for 2015.

3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you?
8 DCL

4) What category cabin are you booked in?
7A Navigator's Verandah

1) What city and state are you from? I generally don't put my city on the boards (not sure why, LOL) but lets just say that we are neighbors ;)

2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports? Going with a group of friends that are all So Cal locals. Definitely love that we don't have to fly anywhere (but prefer the port of LA, just because it is even closer) ::yes::

3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you? This cruise will be 9 and the 2-night afterwards (also booked B2B) will be 10. Platinum here I come :thumbsup2

4) What category cabin are you booked in? Cat T (1-bedroom). It will be our 20th anniversary next year so combined with no airfare and the very inexpensive price of this cruise on opening day...we decided to splurge.

Keep it coming! I love hearing about other cruisers! If I had my pick, I'd also have DCL back in Los Angeles. Does anyone know why DCL didn't go back to LA? :confused3

I have no idea but I hope they do come back here some day. We spent many a Sunday afternoon down at the port watching the Wonder sail away (the kids liked riding scooters along that boardwalk area). I miss having a Disney ship so close to home.

Plus it is an easier port to do a land/sea combo with Disneyland.

1) What city and state are you from? I'm not :lmao: But I am from the beautiful province of British Columbia

2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports? Yep, kinda sums it up nicely. There would be no cruise if we had to fly to Florida because airfare costs as much as a cruise!

3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you? THREE!

4) What category cabin are you booked in? 5B

Yay! Thanks for sticking with me. I am almost finished - honest! Now that Disney will be sailing from Galveston again it gave me a renewed purpose to get 'er done!

Just please don't post anything on my trip report about this cruise as my family also read the trip report and they don't know yet that I have booked this one. That would be awkward :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

celebrating our 20th Anniversaries)!! DH and I will also be staying on for the 2-night afterwards.!

Thats so cool. Hubby and I just celebrated 19 years on Tuesday:hug:, so next May 27th will be our 20th as well. I would love to splurge as well, but with 4 of our kids coming with us that still isn't doable. Mabye for our 25th we could :hyper: I actually had the 2 nights afterwards on hold, but didn't think about adding them till after the rates had been out for 4 days so literally the 2 days were MORE then the 5 nights...so we decided to just stay in San Diego for an extra day and go to the Wild Animal Park. :woohoo:

Flying is way easier. Is the 149 round trip or one way?

::yes:: Yep round trip. Hubby was looking at flying out of San Francisco or San Jose but they are around the same price as well. Wish we could drive to Pleasonton and take Bart to the SF airport, but not sure I would trust leaving our car at the Bart station for a week :worried: We are actually driving down to Disneyland this June 26th which we have done several times.. I wonder how much further San Diego would be? Guess I will go google it :)

This will be our 3rd Disney Cruise, and the 1st time we haven't been booked for 7 days. I am hoping 5 days won't be a disappointment. l.

Dmsdrcslattery I was/am worried about this very same thing. DH and I have been on 11 cruises, this will be our 6th with Disney and have NEVER sailed less then 7 nights..So I posted this question to the FB Disneycruise group and literally was :furious: flamed. People were saying how selfish I was, and I was ungrateful, and one person even said "how sad that you have such BAD 1st world problems when there are starving children". I was so taken aback. I was simply asking if other folks had sailed 7+ nights and then sailed less how they felt..and their opinions. Instead I was made out to basically be a puppy killer :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Dear Hubby and I KNOW how blessed we are that he has a good job that allows me to put vacation $$ aside and go on a cruise every 2-3 years. We are not rich we live in a modest house and both drive 10 year old cars...we don't drink alcohol, smoke, do drugs :hippie: so we save up for things that make us happy and that our kids enjoy. :thumbsup2 I was so upset how people reacted. :sad2:

No problem! Your secret is safe with me!

1) What city and state are you from?

Stockton, Ca

2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports?

Actually we booked a dummy cruise for Oct 11th of this year on last years cruise, Knowing we would change to Oct 11th of 2015 as soon as the rates came out. All of our kids have a week long break in Oct When the rates came out and we saw San Diego we were thrilled because we could either fly [much cheaper then FL] or drive down.

3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you?

6 for Disney 5 before we found Disney, but we don't like to talk about it :rotfl:

4) What category cabin are you booked in?

Category 9A ocean view, this will be our first time not sailing with a Veranda, but we have been to Cobo on cruises before and figured we really didn't need to pay the extra money for a balcony.

Wow, sounds like a perfectly valid question to me! Our first cruise was 'only' five nights (repo) -- which seemed fine to me at the time because I was sure I wouldn't like cruising and was only going because it was Disney.

Then we went on 7 nights last time and that was better but still not long enough. I'd love to do the Panama Canal or TransAtlantic but out of the question for now due to money & school year absences. But they are at the top of my bucket list :)

For this cruise, I keep reminding myself that it's either 5 nights or nothing. And five nights is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than nothing :yay:.

My turn!! :cool1:
1) What city and state are you from? Whittier, CA (I can get from the DLR parking structure to my house at midnight in 20 minutes!! :rotfl2:)
2) Did you book this cruise to avoid airfare or to pay cheaper airfare compared to other departure ports? Avoiding airfare is a BIG benefit!! :drive:
3) When you board this cruise, what number cruise will this be for you? Third DCL, Approaching 30 total cruises :beach:
4) What category cabin are you booked in? Not sure of the category, but we are on Deck 2, by the aft elevator in a room with a BIG round window.

::yes:: We are actually driving down to Disneyland this June 26th which we have done several times.. I wonder how much further San Diego would be? Guess I will go google it :)

:moped: I live about 20 minutes North of Disneyland (without traffic!!) and it takes us a little under 2 hours to get to the port in San Diego. (and that usually includes a stop!!)

:confused3 I am sorry to hear this, I can't believe the admins on that page allowed for that kind of talk. Some people are just plain rude and it comes from them being jealous. My Hubbee and I get that a lot because we are very blessed to be able to cruise a lot, but we don't have any kids, some people aren't happy in their own situations and have to put down others. As for your question, WELL, it certainly isn't 7 days, but it is better than 2 or 3!! It is a taste and I do love to taste things!! I don't care where it is going, it is the fact that I AM going on a cruise that matters even if it is only 5 days!! :cheer2:

That's horrible that this happened to you. We LOVE DCL so much that my DH and I were also worried that 5 days wouldn't be enough. Believe me when I say a lot of cruisers feel the same as you do. :flower3:

FergusBC, I have been reading popcorn:: your trip report, you have done a great job. I think we should take a vote to bestow the honor of doing the trip report for our cruise to you!!! :dance3:

I am taking an item from your "to do" list and putting it on mine, "Drink of the Day", Sounds like a great idea for my upcoming cruise on the Fantasy. Then on ours we can meet up and enjoy one everyday on our cruise!! :yay:

LOL...Thank you! I can't believe it's been over six months and I'm still not finished! Next time I vow to take more notes! Thankfully I take tons of photos so I can kind of piece things together from that.

I admit - best idea EVER! The kids even had to remind me once or twice ... 'hey mom, you haven't had your drink yet!' (Sniff...I have awesome kids...)

This was the original 'Wish List':

  • Order room service breakfast! (check!)
  • Try the Drink of the Day every day! (check and mate!)
  • Watch at least one movie on funnel vision (meh...does part of three movies count?)
  • Have a nightcap in each of the bar (epic fail!)
  • Family photos - formal night - white background! (half a check - we did the formal photo but not the white background...it was an impulse decision)
  • Go to the 'game shows' in Studio Sea (match your mate, mickeymania, etc.) (fraction of a check - we went to the 'how well do you know your family' show)
  • Take cabin pictures *before* we get it all messed up (Ha! Just not possible!)
  • Enjoy the sunset from a deck 4 lounge chair (perhaps with drink in hand?) (Sadly, no...but I get to move this on to my 'new' wish list now )
