9 Magic nights in Norway 6/20/2015

Anyone have an idea on when port adventures will be released?

The earliest Platinum can book Adventures is 120 days out, so certainly 4 months before first sailing to Norway, but usually a bit earlier.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Alyce, I'm a 20-something from Australia :) I'll be travelling with my former housemates Jean and Shae. We booked a couple of days ago. It will be a LONG couple of flights for us, but hoping Norway will be worth it!

Jean and Shae are disney cruise Noobies, but this will be my fourth, and first on the magic. Loved the wonder, but not so fond on the size of the fantasy so the magic should be just right :)

Would love to be in on the FE when it gets off the ground!

It is funny. Visiting Norway is #1 on DW travel list and Australia is next on the wish list.

How many hours is the flight?

Depends which way we go, shortest is via Dubai. 15 hrs from Melbourne to Dubai and then 9 hrs from Dubai to Copenhagen. I'm used to the 15 hr flight as I frequently travel to the US, but that extra 9 hour flight will be the killer I think! There are also many routes via Asia so we haven't yet decided which route to take.

How long is the route from the US?

For anybody who is interested I LOVE planning and would love to take on the role of FE organiser if we are in need of one!

Lastly, there are a lot of fun ideas from our last cruise that I'd be interested in organising...a wine crawl from cabin to cabin was a particular highlight!

I am expecting 10 to 11 hours of total travel time. We do not have a nonstop from Boston. If I was facing 24 hours of travel like yourself, I'd have to consider visiting somewhere for a day or so to break it up. Good luck with your planning.

I am not aware that anyone else has stepped forward to organize the FE but there certainly has been some interest in participation. Even though we've always participated in the past, we haven't decided yet because of the logistics of a B2B.

So why did everyone choose Norway? Personally, for me I'm hoping for breath taking scenery and the opportunity to do some awesome hikes. Can't wait for port adventures to be released to see what is on offer!

Norway has been number one on DW travel list for a long time. Our DCL Alaska cruise was one of the best. The scenery was amazing. I'm expecting a similar experience.

I've always wanted to cruise through fjords. We did Alaska a few years ago and the day in Tracy Arm was one of the most amazing days of any trip I've taken. I think it'll be nice to visit smaller ports and spend time outside hiking and exploring.

Agreed! Tracey Arm was my favourite day in Alaska as well!

Love the idea of a wine crawl! The last cruise I was on had a very active FB page and the group was very active on the cruise - it was a lot of fun and made the cruise even more fun. Not sure yet about FE. We did it on the last cruise for the first time and my daughter LOVED it. My husband wasn't too thrilled though because of all of the extras we needed to bring home. Will depend on the number of participants if we join or not.

I'll organise the FE groups dependent on the input of participants. Will absolutely make seperate groups if there are too many. Someone earlier floated the idea of an Adults only group for those without kids. Will have to wait and seen how big the group gets. ATM it seems like most people have opted for the 11 day over the 9 day for the Iceland stops.

Thanks, can't believe how quiet this thread is still.....where is everyone??? Who am I kidding? they're all on the 11 night....maybe we will meet more fellow cruisers once all the popular categories sell out on that (and from what I hear, it's getting close!)

We went to Iceland on our way back from the Med last year. It was very nice - but it's more of a one and done kind of trip. That's why we chose the 9 night cruise. This way we can go to another country (or countries) that we haven't already been to. We are currently thinking about Paris and/or Amsterdam.
I'm sure things will pick up here once the 11 night sells out.

I'm a bit surprised the fjord cruises aren't as popular as the Iceland cruise. The Norwegian ports on the 11 night are too far south for the great fjords. I guess more people are attracted to Iceland than the Norwegian fjords. Being over a year out, I think most people (including me) are still planning this summer's vacation. It will pick up after the summer.

The activity in the cruise meets thread for our Iceland repo cruise has slowed quite a bit as well. I think some of the initial euphoria of the new itineraries has worn off.

I haven't gotten into planning mode for this trip yet. Still need to plan for WDW Christmas and Fantasy New Year first. After June 23 I should be done with ADR and FP decisions and hopefully my Puerto Rico and USVI excursions and then I'll ramp up for next year.

I actually thought this cruise would be most popular. At 9 nights it is the most in depth Norway sailing. The Iceland repo seems to be filled with some of the oldest DIS/DCL veterans who definetly strive to be part of anything inaugural. Many have been to Norway with DCL before even if not as in depth as this sailing. A first to Iceland and Faroe Islands is the topic of conversation.

We have wanted a B2B for a long time and the marriage of these two itineraries finally swayed us. However, if we only sailed on one I'm pretty sure we'd have kept this one.

B2B is a great way to do it. I'll prob start planning this trip after this summer. As much as I like private tours, we may lean more toward DCL excursions and on our own. Not sure there will really be that many private guides in many of these smaller ports.

DMIL father was from Norway and she has visited once and wanted to go back. DH has never been. This will be our 7th DCL cruise and we love DCL. We did Alaska in 2012 on DCL and it was a high light of the Summer. Loved the adventure.

We choose the 9 day over the 11 day as we wanted to concentrate on Norway. We were more interested in the ports on the 9 day then the 11 day. Will kind of miss the "sea" days since we seem to be stopping every day, but heck.. it is all about Norway. I haven't been in Europe since 2005 and that was only in Germany, so want to get out and touch land.

Enjoy your NYE cruise on the Fantasy, we did a 7 night NYE cruise 2010-2011 on the Wonder. It was a fantastic trip and we had a wonderful time. I would love to travel over NYE again in the future and DCL does put on a great party.

Look forward to meeting you all over the next 14 months :-)
