We are a family of 5. I booked POR on jan 13th for our 8/16-23 trip. My inlaws were talking about going as well. They finally made the decision yesterday to go. POR room was a high price for them so today I switched to CBR with my daughter in their room, my 2 boys in our room with us. Didnt cost us anything different but they got a better price then POR. Well 7 hours later my MIL decided they aren't going. I called to switch back to POR (since CBR can't accommodate the 5 of us) and they have no more standard rooms and we don't fit in a royal room!!!! Resort is booked solid.

According to Phoenix (CM) my only options are:
1. Stay with same price and go down to a value (although AoA is more money). Or
2. Spend another $1k to bounce up to the yacht club (which I didn't think it accommodated 5???) or
3. 1500 for GF

As of right now I don't have a room anymore?!?!? Any ideas what I could do?

Wow! That stinks! I would be soooo mad!

If your willing to stay "offsite", you could do the Dolphin. Should be priced similarly to a mod, but with deluxe location and amenities. The only downside is no advance FP+ (as least as of now)

I am so sorry, that really sucks. We are a family of 5 too and I know how hard it is to get those Port Orleans rooms that sleep 5. I just checked orbitz for your dates and they have POR still available (non royal rooms). I've booked through them before.
It may be worth booking that way and making the reservation, calling Orbitz to have them call Disney to make sure it's the room to sleep 5 and have Orbitz add your kids. The code "Discover" gets you an additional 20% off whatever deal they have going on. You can always cancel if it turns out the room isn't the ones that sleep 5.

Good luck!

I am sorry this happened to you. I know I'd be livid. If it won't hurt too much, I would go with the extra $1k for YC. Most of the Deluxes have a rooms that accommodate up to 5. Then I would call POR every day to check for a room that can handle the 5 of you.

And btw...lesson learned I will NEVER again change my reservations for anyone....EVEN FAMILY!!!

We've made the decision to not change our plans for others and have been happy every time because we would have gotten burned every time too. There were hard feelings when we said no, but they understood when they each had to back out.

YC DOES accommodate 5.

You say no standard rooms....do they have any category at all? Preferred, river view?

Can you afford the bump in price to upgrade to a deluxe? You can fit all 5 of you in a standard room at all the deluxe resorts except AKL and WL. Was the price they quoted you with the new summer discounts? You would be eligible for 35% off since you're stay over 6 nights.

The problem with 5 people is even if you go down to a value (especially AoA) you may be paying more than your POR rate because you can't fit in one room. AoA Little Mermaid rooms are I believe excluded from the discounts, and the suites are just expensive. I don't know the numbers off the top of my head, but I wouldn't be surprised if a standard room at a deluxe resort with 35% off comes close to the price of an AoA suite. Without increasing the cost of your trip too much, your best solution may be 2 rooms at a value that you can use the discount on (I believe All Star Movies is not available).

You can also fit into a cabin at Fort Wilderness, but you need to be comfortable with the differences between staying at FW vs a hotel. You can fit in certain DVC studios and 1 bedroom villas, but those will be more than the regular rooms.

I guess I'll have to suck up the extra $1k and maybe ill get lucky by calling everyday for the POR room and I won't have to pay the $1k. I just don't want to get locked out of it all.

Ok I have never booked disney outside of disney direct ill check out orbitz too.

Thanks everyone for ur suggestions and not giving me grief for being naive enough to change my plans for others.

OP- just thought of something else...
I bet rooms will open up as the 45 day cancellation window approaches. Maybe hold on to something else (something refundable and within budget) until then. I'm sure people cancel or change their dates all the time. Fingers crossed for you!

True I may have to do that.

I just checked orbitz and it said no rooms were available...oh well

I agree with a PP suggesting orbitz if you can get it. I have booked with them many times and once you add it in mde it works pretty much the same as a direct booking. They have free cancellation too if you can book elsewhere!

I will also add though that YC is amazing :thumbsup2. They have rooms with little daybeds for the 5th person (which are a little more bed-like IMO than what we had at POR because the mattress was thinner there).

Can u book park tix and meal plan thru Expedia or orbitz? I don't see how I would add that in.

Ah, so you had a package booked? That's a different story.

Do you really NEED the meal plan? This site has a dining plan calculator that might help you see if it will save you money. If you didn't need the plan you could just book room-only. That's a different inventory of rooms, so there might be availability when there aren't packages available.

You can't book the meal plan, buy they do have tickets. Though I think most say to still get tix through UT. I've booked room only several times through Orbitz and it's been easy and a good savings each time. You also can use ebates to save a little off booking through Orbitz and you earn Orbucks to use on future trips. Also for your dates I only put in 2 people so that all the hotels will show up and POR still shows availability. Maybe you can call Orbitz and have them verify the 5 person room with Disney and book that way.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!

As some others have suggested, my advice would be to book the YC for now and keep stalking the Disney sight for a room at POR.

Last year we booked CBR when the fd promotion came out, but we really wanted POR (no availability). I kept checking online constantly, finally I found availability. It took me about three weeks of constantly checking before the room came up.

Good luck! :goodvibes

This is what I am wondering too. Have you tried to book both a preferred view and a standard view at POR? Each of those room types have rooms that hold 5.
