The WALDORF ASTORIA ORLANDO and HILTON BONNET CREEK Information Thread

we have family w/ HH points and were wondering how many points does it take for a Sat to Sat trip in November? We own DVC and were planning our daughters wedding. We were going to suggest to these family members to use their HH points and get a suite for the week.

You have to check Hilton's website. On average, the Hilton charges 40,000 points per night. But I've gotten specials for 33k+ per night. And high peak periods would be more.

Hello!

I am headed to Orlando for a business training trip in March, and the conference is at the Hilton Bonnet Creek. I have always been an on-property gal, and was surprised to learn it would be at HBC as years past have been at the Swan and Dolphin...however, the trip has been approved and I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD! Wahoo! That being said, though a well seasoned Disney traveler, I have ZERO experience off site. I can see how close it is to all my favorite places in the World, but can someone please help me figure out realistically how long it will take me to travel to and from my favorite places, whether or not its worth doing park hoppers since my mobility will be less convenient without access to the disney transportation, and so forth? From what I could see poking around the resorts website, buses run every half hour to MK, EP and DHS (looks like EP and DHS is probably a shared bus), and once per hour to AK. Is this the norm? I am a wee bit nervous because my dates are 3/9-3/13 which is the onslaught of the spring break travel season AND the start of the Flower and Garden festival, so I KNOW it is going to be so much more crowded than I am used to (We typically travel late Sept/Early Oct or very early Dec during the pre-christmas spike) Because I will be without my husband or kids, I know my touring will be very different, but I am really hoping for some insight from travelers who have stayed at the HBC as well as how convenient it will be to be "off site" during such a busy time....thanks in advance! :)

Also- as an onsite gal, I am utterly spoiled by DME....the conference includes discounts for the MEARS shuttle to the resort....would I better off with a taxi?

How fun for you!! I also have a nice benefit from the work conference I attend each year as it is in Orlando :cool1: so I understand a lot of your questions. But first let me say that while I have stayed at HBC, I have never used their transportation to the parks. I have always had a car and only driven to DTD anyway from HBC (it is really close). BUT, check out their transportation schedule at:
http://www.hiltonbonnetcreek.com/disney-transportation

I'll let others talk about the transportation experience but the distance you are from the parks is similar to Pop Century (you can see that resort from HBC) - closest to DTD, then EP/HS, then AK, then MK. I'd say the advantage you will have is KNOWING when their transportation picks up! And like you said, if you are by yourself, it is so much easier to get around since you can walk as quickly as you like and not have to keep track of others. I find that to be the biggest benefit of traveling by myself. Of course, you don't get the pleasure of your family's company but luckily at Disney, you can make instant friends if you want to chat with someone for a few minutes (on the bus, in line at an attraction, etc).

Mears shuttle is "fine". Nothing fabulous about it but perfectly safe and you ride with others (which makes me feel more comfortable when I travel by myself). I've never taken a taxi from MCO but it would get you to your resort quicker than the shuttle - especially when you don't know how many stops it will make before your resort. One word of caution with taxis in WDW, make sure if you do take one that it is approved by the hotel. The 'non-preferred' cab companies may try to scam you as they did try to with me...but being a Disney vet, I knew they were taking me the extra-long route (this was going from one Disney resort to another). So if you decide on a taxi, check allearsnet for their recommendation and call HBC for theirs as well.

As for your question about park hoppers - how much time will you have each day to spend at the parks? During my conference, I am busy until 5 pm so it would be a quick time at 2 parks if I were to do that in one evening. I do usually spend a weekend as well and on those days, I may want to park hop but I really do my research to figure out where I most likely will go each day before I spend the extra $55 (or $50 for a conference ticket). If you are going for a conference, many times Disney offers a discounted ticket and each ticket comes with a bonus that you can use at a waterpark or minigolf (and some other places). And since your children are not going, you may want to do some more things you don't normally do - like going to Jellyrolls or seeing Yeeha Bob or spending some time at Mizner's and listening to the band or even just checking out some of the resorts. So before you decide to add the park hopper, make sure you would be able to use it (and yes, I get a park hopper when I am by myself but I also have 3 full days in addition to the conference to go to the parks).

I know there are some comments on the transportation throughout this thread so you may want to search this thread for some real reviews rather than just listening to my guesses ;)

But no matter what, you are so right when you say YOU ARE GOING TO DISNEY :dance3:

Oh, I totally forgot to add something - because I wrote so little in my last response :rotfl2:

For your time frame in March, it can be busy - much busier at the parks - but you are right, as a solo traveler, it will not be so noticable for lines and getting seated for meals as long as you don't wait in the stand by line for Soarin'! Be sure to check out the weather though!! That time of year can range greatly. When I was there in 2010 during that same time, it barely got to 70 on ONE of the days and the rest of the time it was very cool and extremely windy some days. But I know other years it has been sunny and 80. And of course you probably already know this but they set the temperature for maximum occupancy for conferences meaning it can be very chilly. I typically wear pants or long skirts and bring cardigans and large scarves. And they sell some fabulous large scarves at wdw ::yes::

And be sure to check out the vendors at your conference. Many of the ones at my conference offer a fun evening for free (or almost free since you have to talk shop for a bit!) For example, one of the companies invited me to a party at Ragland Road where they blocked off a section and had their own Irish dancers, food, and private bar along with all sorts of goodies to take home. So make sure you keep those events in mind as you determine what to do and if you need a park hopper ticket!

Wow! Thanks for all the great info :) I am just so excited. I never ever thought I'd ever go on a business trip so it's all so new to me (I work in education, so this is so far out of the norm!) I'm mostly nervous about the return trips from parks to the resort .... With a single scheduled bus every 30 minutes, I am guessing there will be quite a bit of waiting around .... Even with its hiccups, with the Disney transportation, at least when you watch a packed bus leave without you, you know another is rolling in right behind it ;) though I don't like crowds, I think I will be doing more people and magic watching than I can afford on our family trips, so I think I will manage just fine.....I'll be in Disney!!!!!! Zip-a-dee-do-dah!!

I must admit that smartphones make waiting less annoying when you are by yourself! I got amazing service waiting INSIDE Space Mountain! :rotfl: Hopefully someone can tell you where the HBC pick up location is at the parks but you know how it is with so many people leaving that I'm sure you won't be in the dark, alone, you know?? I totally get it though, I travel a lot for work and I don't get ground floor hotel rooms, I check underneath the bed, behind the curtains, and in the closet everytime I enter the room. I hold my keys between my fingers walking to the car in the dark and scan all areas like I'm some sort of paranoid-low-on-the-foodchain-animal. And I feel so much better at Disney - including HBC! I am still cautious but Disney really does keep their eyes open even if you aren't. I swear one time a cast member materialized out of no where when I was walking to the Dolphin late one night. He made sure I got back ok even though he didn't say that :goodvibes

:) And that right there is one of the reasons why I love Disney so!! :) Yes, I am sure my phone and ipad will help ease the waiting :) I have seen offsite buses drop off and pick up at HS while walking to our buses, I would imagine the MK would be at the TTC, but can't say I've ever noticed offsite buses at Epcot of AK....I'm sure they've been there somewhere though. Since my first trip to any park will be from the HBC though, I'm pretty sure I'll figure it out before I have to get there ;)

I NEVER travel for work....and the only time I have ever been to Disney alone was for the Princess Half, it will be such a luxury, will be gone nearly a whole week! Only wish I could skip the conference and just scurry around the parks the whole time! :rotfl2:

We are still undecided between Hilton Bonnet Creek or Hyatt Grand Cypress (remodeled last year and looks very nice).

The HGC has a special where we would get one night for free, making the price equal between the two hotels. HGC is normally about $30 more per night but with the free night it equals out. Resort fees and parking cost about the same at each.

Difference is that we would have a King with sleeper sofa (kids are 7 & 9) at HGC or two queens at HBC.

We are not doing Disney Parks this year, but Universal Studios and then just resort time instead. We did Disney parks last year and stayed at AKL which was AMAZING. They upgraded us to a savannah view for free and it really was the most incredible hotel ever. It's not in the budget this year, though. :(

Anyway, has anyone stayed at both since HGC was remodeled? Having a really tough time choosing!

eta: Ok I'm pretty sure we are leaning toward HBC since it's next to WA so there will be more to do and see.

Hello again!

Looking for park transportation information.

I will be arriving at the Hilton Bonnet Creek on Sunday (March 9th) and will be heading out to a park after arrival. I plan to hop though, so I am wondering if someone would be able to help me in terms of where the pick up points are at the different parks. I have never had a car at Disney, and we always stay on property, so I am just a little bit unsure of how this will work. I have been studying the bus schedules on the HBC website, but it does not give any information about where to go to get on the bus from the parks.

Thanks in advance!
Megan

Your best bet would be to contact the resort as I can only speak for magic kingdom transport. The bus will pick you up from the same area as the disney buses use. When I was there in October, the driver who brought us to MK told us the bus would be in a particular space. Fortunately, we were alert and looking around, so we found the bus even though it was NOT in the space we were told. Aside from that the bus is comfy, uncrowded, and drivers were nice. Enjoy your stay at the resort. We loved our WA and HBC stays.

Really? Wow. Thanks for the information! I would have thought that it would be at the TTC for Magic Kingdom, I have never seen offsite busses at the bus terminals right outside Magic Kingdom. I have hoppers, and the MK is open later than most parks, so at worst I may just hop to the MK and go from there. I have printed the transportation schedule from the HBC website, but I will ask specifically where the drop off and pick up points are when I arrive.

So excited!

So sorry my message was confusing! The hbc/wa bus does take you to the TTC, but it's near where disney buses at the TTC (at least I could swear they were there...) are parked.

Hahaha - thanks! :) I know where the TTC is, so I should not have any trouble. I feel better, I was in awe of how unobservant I have been not to notice outside busses at the MK Bus depot!

W just returned from the HBC 3/4/14 and had a great experience. Stayed at The Waldorf over Thanksgiving and was equally satisfied. The bus service is easy and great!. When you check in they give you a sheet with pick up times at the hotel and parks. They drop off in the same areas as the Disney buses and the driver will announce repeatedly which location number and what times pick up will be from that park that day. There is also a staff member available in the bus parking areas directing people which hotel picks up from which lane. Super easy. The facility and awesome. Rooms are much bigger that Disney resorts. Food is really good at the hotel. Cinnamon rolls excellent in the quick pick up area and the hamburger and fries at the sit down restaurant were great. Kids eat free after 5 there too so that was nice. Room has a good size refrigerator. Poo is super nice. Very quiet and clean. Highly recommend it. If anyone has any specific questions I will be happy to answer them if I can

That is great to hear! Thank you so much!! I feel much better now. I am arriving a bit early, but I called to make sure they would hold my bags for me so I can get right to the parks! :)

I have never done offsite before, so it is a good test to go on my own to see if it would work for our family :)

I forgot to post photos from our 2 night stay last October so here are some photos:

Photos of the floatie we brought from home - they let you use your own and this was clearances at $3 at Target. It was cheaper than buying one of theirs and they let us blow it up with their air pump at the pool. We then left it at the front desk for another DISer (hopefully they got it!)

Breakfast at the buffet - we used two of our complimentary breakfast coupons for Hilton Honors Gold members for us adults and the kids ate free. You are supposed to pay a $6 per adult up charge on the coupon if you eat the hot buffet too (as the coupons are only for continental breakfast) but our server said not to worry. She was really nice and attentive! The buffet was fine but I recommend eating from the freshly brought out serving bowls as some of the kids got messy and dirty getting their food (I'm a wee bit of a germ a phobe so having other kids sticky fingers touch the dish or the food  is not for me!):

More pool photos and views from our room:

My daughter enjoying a hot chocolate and looks a lot like a mini-me as I love to enjoy my coffee at the pool!

And since we had a car, we went to Target for groceries for the week (we also stayed at the Poly for 5 nights) and we stopped to get a cheaper lunch at Chick-fil-a:

And here are some photos from 2011 but they still look the same and serve the same food :)

Notice the words on the chairs - start your morning off right!

You can see a lot of WDW too:

The Hilton lobby:

Muse (quick cafe service) morning offerings (their cinnamon rolls are THE BEST EVER and very unique with European buttery goodness):

Older photo so my son looks so young here!!!

Kids favorite donut in the world :) It is their king sized donut and the kids split it because it is SO big! But they do run out of these so don't sleep in :thumbsup2

More photos:

Watch your kids if they aren't good swimmers. The lazy river is not really that lazy. But it is fun!! And my favorite part.

And some random photos of the family - we LOVE WDW (ok, maybe the hubby just LIKEs it but as he says - pool and beer is all he needs!!)

Jumping for adventure:

Wild Africa Trek:

Decent family photo. We can't help the hair - my kids got my curls and my husbands thick head of hair!! Add humidity and a lot of walking around and voila - fabulous hair that doesn't get combed :rotfl:

What some people act like at the end of a Disney day (we were just joking - really!)

I hope you enjoy the photos. I know I love to see them when I am preparing for a trip - or just imagining one ::yes::

Glad to see you had a good time. I think we were there around the same time! Last October was our first HBC stay, it was very nice. But I have to admit, WA is my favorite of the two!

We are coming down with DH while he will be at a conference. We will stay at either WA or HBC. We will be there for 3 nights then switch to AoA for the remainder of the week. We have always stayed onsite. Will it be doable without renting a car. I know that HBC and WA have bus transportation and it's not like Disney, but have any of you relied solely on HBC transportation? We will only be using it Mon and Tue. We will be switching to AoA Wednesday morning. My other question is my mom will be with us and she will have a scooter rented offsite. Can the hotel transportation accommodate scooters? Thanks.
