Pop or All Star Sports in August

I'm planning a mother/son trip for the last week of August. I like the look of All Star Sports because of the new food court but was wondering if there would be a lot of teams or large groups staying there? I'm thinking that the last week of August might be a quieter time, or is there no such thing?

We will be at DW at the end of August for our 5th trip in a row. I've never noticed any large groups or teams at the resorts or in the park during this time period. We've stayed at AllStar Music, Pop and POFQ during this time with no problems. :goodvibes

Thanks for the info. Just what I was hoping to hear!

I prefer POP I think the dedicated bus service is a little better and you can walk over to AoA great looking resort.

The food assortment is bigger at the Pop, and buses seem a little better. Things do slow down that last week, since schools tend to start around the 20th. Have fun!

I've taken 2 of my kids on separate Value trips - first one was at Pop over Memorial weekend, second one was the end of January at Sports. I MUCH preferred Sports! :thumbsup2 The Pop food court was complete insanity every time we went there, no matter what time of day we stopped in. :confused3 It seems like a much larger resort and that maybe it wasn't adequately staffed for that amount of customers. It seemed like buses took forever, but I know that can happen anywhere on property. I'm sure the fact that is was a holiday weekend was a big part of it, but I probably won't stay there again if Sports has availability and we want to stay at a Value.

There were some gymnastics groups staying at Sports when we were there but the kids seemed well behaved and although the food court was busy at times it wasn't nearly the madhouse that Pop was. I liked the buses - although they shared with the other All Stars, Sports was the first drop off so that was nice. I stayed preferred at both resorts and the locations were decent, not too far away.

If you are wanting a more quiet experience, I'd definitely go with Sports. I've stayed at all the values multiple times. Pop has 1,000 more rooms, so more people and still only one food court and two pools.

But you can't go wrong with either! At any value if you want quiet, be sure to request a top floor room NOT overlooking the pool.

We absolutely love Pop so I'd recommend them. They have dedicated bus service so that's reason enough. I love the theming and the customer service has always been great for me!

I prefer All Star Sports. They have a newly refurbished food court and this is totally personal preference but I like the color schemes in the rooms better. They just seem more bright and cheery.

I stayed at Sports the last week of August in 2012 and had a great time. I don't know what the remodeled food court is like but I've heard it's an improvement. :)

I'd go to any of the All-Stars before I'd go back to Pop, but I had an unusually bad experience there, so YMMV.

I do not notice much difference between the AllStars and POP(outside of the 1000 more people at POP) In August there are not going to be many sports teams. At other times of the year I have seen big groups at both. As far as the buses I have found the service to be equal. I have had more bus problems at POP but I think that is because we have stayed there more often.

From what I gather, school groups tend to be a spring thing...I believe late summer early fall would be a safe bet to avoid them. :thumbsup2

Small correction and doesn't negate your point, but POP does have 3 pools.

The 60's Hippy pool is often mobbed, but the other 2 pools are usually pretty quiet. One of my favorite WDW traditions is soaking in the bowling pin pool late on a hot August night--usually all alone! It's a beautiful and peaceful feeling looking at the huge, lit up juke box and all of the other over-sized POP symbols all in lights.

Thanks SO much for all the advice, everyone! It's going to be hard to decide. I think I'll wait to see if there will be any discounts and then go from there. I think either way we'll have fun!
