It's gonna take a lot to take me away from this view! 7/10 - Finished!

You're funny with your comment about Ariel nailed to the front of the ship by the bowsprit. That's certainly odd now that you mention it! Great photos from the ride. :)

I am a big supporter of breaks at the resort during the day, sometimes you just need to relax and recharge. Especially if you have a late night planned. The older I get the more I see the value in that plan.

There sure were a lot of animals out on the savanna. We didn't see that many at one time - ever last trip. That view makes is worth the stay there. And of course the name sake of your TR makes sense because of what is right outside your window.

Happy re-locating and getting organized.

So glad to be caught up!!!! I'm leaving in a WEEK!!!!!! Wheee!!! And I'm taking notes of some of your comments because I have to make a list of things to take pictures of. Is that weird? (Not that I care if it is.. haha!)

Loved your BOG lunch review!! Hopefully dinner made you happy as well, since that's when I'm going.

Hopefully your store is all moved into the new location! Drug dealers?? *shudder* I'm so sheltered.

Elsa has spent quite a bit of time here, too... although I love it! It's been SO cold though, that I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to handle the heat in Florida, even on the days that it's in the 70s.

Great update! I found myself wanting to end our days early last month to spend more time at AKL as well. Such a beautiful resort with so many fun activities.

I did get to try Lefou's Brew back in October and you're right. It's very sweet and it qualifies more as a dessert than a drink. I still finished the whole cup. ;)

That's great that people were offering to take pictures of you with your camera! I didn't get any offers but perhaps that's because I have this look on my face that says "Nope, don't want to let go of my camera" :rotfl:

I think the LeFou's Brew is a little sweet, probably not something I'd order very often, so I don't blame you for skipping it that afternoon.
I'd like to try it, but maybe if I had 5 or so people to split it with.

An afternoon break at AKL....just thinking about the idea and seeing photos of you relaxing at the pool and checking out the animals makes me wish I were there right now.
Me too. It's snowing here. :rotfl2:

Even though you're not normally a mid-afternoon break kind of person, I think when you stay at a deluxe, it's definitely worth taking the time to tour your resort. I mean, you're paying for the experience of staying there, might as well get your money's worth. :confused3
Absolutely! We're glad we did.

Totally agree with you on TLM ride! DD just loved the under the sea part!

An afternoon break that involves some time in the hot tub is the perfect way to recharge! :thumbsup2
It's just so adorable!
We loved recharging, it was so relaxing. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you are finally into your new building at work! Yay! :cool1:
Today is day 3 in the new building and I'm absolutely in love. It's so beautiful!

I love your LM pictures. Just perfect.
Thanks! :goodvibes

Wowsa to all the animals outside your balcony. You literally had herds of each type. I have to admit that sitting on the balcony was so compelling. It was really hard to pull myself away from those views.
We couldn't have been more pleased with the animals, we loved it and definitely had a hard time leaving it!

Nice time to enjoy the hot tub in the middle of the day. I'm glad you took the time to enjoy and relax!
Me too, it was a whole new way of doing things for us and we really liked it.

I could spend an entire day just looking at zebras... while drinking a coffee.
Same!

You're funny with your comment about Ariel nailed to the front of the ship by the bowsprit. That's certainly odd now that you mention it! Great photos from the ride. :)
I was looking at it and just thinking that while it's a nice gesture, it's also a little strange! :confused3

I am a big supporter of breaks at the resort during the day, sometimes you just need to relax and recharge. Especially if you have a late night planned. The older I get the more I see the value in that plan.
We've always been the go go go types, so it was a very nice change to actually relax on vacation!

There sure were a lot of animals out on the savanna. We didn't see that many at one time - ever last trip. That view makes is worth the stay there. And of course the name sake of your TR makes sense because of what is right outside your window.
We really had nothing to compare to, never having stayed there before, but we were just thrilled at the number of animals we saw, it was wonderful and definitely worth the stay!

Happy re-locating and getting organized.
Thank you! We are on day 3 at the new place and I absolutely love it!

So glad to be caught up!!!! I'm leaving in a WEEK!!!!!! Wheee!!! And I'm taking notes of some of your comments because I have to make a list of things to take pictures of. Is that weird? (Not that I care if it is.. haha!)
Have a fantastic trip!! It's not weird at all! DaveinFallsChurch made a "photo safari" list of things he wanted to take pictures of!

Loved your BOG lunch review!! Hopefully dinner made you happy as well, since that's when I'm going.
Spoiler: We were! LOL

Hopefully your store is all moved into the new location! Drug dealers?? *shudder* I'm so sheltered.
Me too, so for me to be working out of a building that had such a circus going on it was just crazy. We are all moved into the new store and it's just incredible! I love it!

Elsa has spent quite a bit of time here, too... although I love it! It's been SO cold though, that I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to handle the heat in Florida, even on the days that it's in the 70s.
She's baaaack! I'm getting hit with a snow storm right now. I bet you'll adapt to the heat just fine!

Great update! I found myself wanting to end our days early last month to spend more time at AKL as well. Such a beautiful resort with so many fun activities.
Thanks! It really was a lovely resort to spend a little extra time at.

I did get to try Lefou's Brew back in October and you're right. It's very sweet and it qualifies more as a dessert than a drink. I still finished the whole cup. ;)
I'd like to try someone else's, just to get a taste but not be committed to drinking the whole thing. :rotfl2:

That's great that people were offering to take pictures of you with your camera! I didn't get any offers but perhaps that's because I have this look on my face that says "Nope, don't want to let go of my camera" :rotfl:
Hahaha I can understand that feeling, but I think that working in a camera store where you hand over equipment to strangers every day has desensitized me. :lmao:

Hi everyone! Are we all having a good week so far? I just had two more snow storms and our island is on route to having the second snowiest winter ever in our history. In fact, we had two storms that turned into rain at the last minute, if not for that, we would have already broken records for snowfall.

Frozen-Stop-the-winter.gif

BUT the sun is out today and I'm in a good mood. Heading to Halifax tomorrow for some retail therapy and even though there's a freezing rain warning tonight (surprise!) it looks clear tomorrow.

More good news, my store is all moved into our new building! We're still trying to remember where we put everything, but it's coming, and I love it! Especially the nice big studio that's all ours. Some day soon when everything settles down, I'm going to take some of the fur babies in to test it out. :thumbsup2

Plans for our Orlando trip in September are starting to firm up a little more. We are going to have a meeting of the three families going to try to do some planning. Basically it's going to be me planning and them nodding. :lmao: It was supposed to happen Sunday past but (you'll never guess) we had a snow storm! When we do have a few solid plans to share, I'll be starting my PTR. :goodvibes

Which means I'd like to get going with this report!

We left off having finished a marvelous mid-day break at AKL and were heading back to a park for an ADR.

Wednesday, November 13

Same Table, Different Time.

I didn't take any pictures between leaving the AKL savannah and arriving here:

[Facebook: Check-in]

"Back for dinner! — with Johnny at Be Our Guest Restaurant. "

Carolin, Amy, Kirsti and 8 others like this.

DaveinFallsChurch: Enjoy! What are you ordering?

Wendy: I think I'll have the chicken breast provençal!

DaveinFallsChurch: I was wishing that I had ordered that entree when I was there in October. Hope it's good!

We were ushered in quickly and we had a waiter who was earning his ears, as well as his trainer. Our waiter didn't appear to need the trainer though, he was confident and very polite, friendly and chatty. He was great! Then he had a sparkle in his eye and said "You'll be dining in the ballroom" [Time Out: Real life here -- As I typed that, "When You Wish Upon A Star" came on my phone and I burst into tears. Apparently I need to get back. /end] He then lead us to the exact same adorable little table we had sat at for our lunch. So ironic! We told him that and he was pretty surprised. He asked us how we enjoyed our lunch and we told him we loved it, he said he hoped we would love our dinner too.

The details in this restaurant are incredible. We all know that's where the Disney magic comes from, but this place goes yet another step above.

Our waiter was back to get us some drinks and we were ready to order so he took that too. He was back with our drinks before long at all. (I think we both had Coke. Johnny was eying the champagne, but since neither of us actually like alcohol he didn't want to buy it and hate it. I encouraged him to try, afterall we're on vacation and dining in a castle -- where better? But he chickened out.)

My cutie pie:

We heard applause and looked up to see the Beast greeting his guests. We were really far away and couldn't get much of a picture, but that didn't stop me from trying!

We ordered the French onion soup to share, that came without much wait at all:

It was delicious! We both really enjoyed it, of course I didn't eat much (seriously, that was the theme of this whole trip!)

Not long after that our meals came. I had the chicken breast provençal (which I no longer see on their menu!):

And it was absolutely delicious. I found the sauce on the top very strong (but again, getting sick and I was really sensitive to everything for some crazy reason) so I scraped a little off and then it was just perfect. Everything was cooked to perfection and very good. I managed to eat almost everything on my plate and felt so proud of myself! :lmao:

Johnny had steak and I have no picture. Sorry! :confused3 But I do know that he loved it and said the same basic thing, well cooked and very tasty.

Our waiter was back and clearing dishes away and then in comes the rolling dessert cart. Mmmmm omg everything looked so good! He named each dish and at the end he suggested we "Try the grey stuff, it's delicious! Don't believe me? -- "

"Ask the dishes!" Johnny and I chimed in. Adorable. :lovestruc

We wanted to try everything so we at least decided to get two different things and share. Johnny got the Chocolate Cream Puff:

Or... I thought so. Hmm... that yellow sauce is making me second guess myself. I know he got passion fruit once and chocolate once. No, I'm sticking with my gut, I'm sure he got the chocolate at dinner. He loved it, and so did I. Delish! Very rich chocolate though (or was it my strange taste buds acting up again?)

I declared that I would indeed try the grey stuff.

If you're wondering (as I was) what the heck the grey stuff even is, it's sort of a brownie/cake on bottom, and the grey topping tastes like whipped cream and Oreo crumbs. I loved it! It was really good.

Our waiter asked how we enjoyed ourselves and we could not say enough good about the place. He cleared away our dishes, settled our bills (easy with the MagicBands!) and invited us to take a look around. So we accepted.

Get ready for EVEN MORE BE OUR GUEST PHOTOS!!!! :rotfl:

Another friendly guests offers to take our picture:

When we were full of food and pictures we headed out to see our host:

I told him I loved what he'd done with the place.

Well, what did we think?

[Review: Be Our Guest - Dinner

Food: Both my chicken and Johnny's steak were wonderful. Great flavour, well cooked, no fat or otherwise inedible parts, etc. Veggies/pommes frites were delicious and well cooked too. The soup was hot and fresh and definitely among the top French onion soups I've had. Desserts were good, not too heavy.

5/5

Service: Our waiter was in training, but he was wonderful. Fast and efficient but never rushed, always very friendly and cheerful. Everyone we encountered was the same. We could not have been happier.

5/5

Atmosphere: You can't go wrong. It's amazing in here. The only thing I could wish for is something I know darn well I won't get in Disney -- a little quieter, but it definitely wasn't bad. I just couldn't help but dream of how magical the place would be with a lower decibel.

5/5

Seriously. I know the place had some less than stellar reviews (mostly for the food) but our everything was incredible. I can't recommend this place enough, based on two of my own experiences. ]

(Continued in next post)

When we left, we were full and happy. We didn't have much we wanted to do so we wandered around taking some pictures.

Well, enough of that, let's ride something!

How about Splash? There was no wait so we ran through the line and were soon on our boat:

The MSEP was going on while we rode:

You might notice I'm now wearing Johnny's sweater. I was frozen!

We decided to go again because, well, why not? There was no line!

Ride #2:

At that point the parade was over and the fireworks were about to start. We wouldn't be watching them this night because we had a few other opportunities, so we decided to cut the evening off there and head back to the bus stop before the masses. We were pleased to see that the CMs were vigilante about keeping a walking path open behind the stationary fireworks watchers. The show started just as we exited the park and I turned around and watched it over the train station for a few minutes. I couldn't resist one last picture:

Then we were off to the busses. We got back to the resort and got our mugs, filled them up, wandered around a bit but it was too dark to see any animals so we showered and watched some TV and fell asleep with the feeling that it had been a really great day.

Soooooo, you're heading to Halifax hey??? And where might this retail therapy be taking place? I may end up stalking you on FB just in case you're somewhere nearby, lol.

Bahaha, the description of your meeting sounds like a Mafia hit.

I swear you are either at the same table or the one right next to it that I was in.

Oh man I wish Beast was out at lunch though.

Ahhh I knew you would have outstanding rose photos.

Wendy, that is a wicked shot of MSEP from Slash. No way I get that photo. Of course ALL your Splash photos are awesome. And back to back Splash??? I accept!

Though I always encourage FB stalking, there's no need, I'll gladly tell you my plans! Perhaps we could meet for a coffee if we will be close? (We're kind of going all over the place!)

Bahaha, the description of your meeting sounds like a Mafia hit.

Yes, just wait until I post some pictures of me arriving with my violin case. Dole whip is a dish best served cold. :rotfl:

I swear you are either at the same table or the one right next to it that I was in.
It would be really funny if we sat there twice and you sat there once too!

Oh man I wish Beast was out at lunch though.
It was really fun to meet the Beast! Definitely a major draw for dinner, but it is too bad he isn't out for lunch.

Ahhh I knew you would have outstanding rose photos.

Wendy, that is a wicked shot of MSEP from Slash. No way I get that photo. Of course ALL your Splash photos are awesome. And back to back Splash??? I accept!
Thanks! :goodvibes I always seem to do back to back Splash, it's kind of become a thing for us!

Oh man, that FB posting with me quoted feels like an eternity ago! :lmao: You're right, it's time to go back. And I just came back three weeks ago! ;)

I did finally get to try Chicken Provencal on our last family trip but somehow I have no recollection of what it tasted like. I do remember I had my hands full with both kids that also involved two trips to the rest rooms. Maybe that's why I can't remember much. :lmao:

Isn't it cool that the Beast comes through the Ballroom?

YAY for two stellar BOG reviews!!!!! I've read some that aren't that great, but I usually put more faith in the good reviews than the bad ones. I'm generally really easy to please. Haha.

Enjoy your retail therapy today. I know you are not alone in having a super snowy record. It's been like that all up and down the east coast and in the midwest. Crazy winter, but March is almost here! Yay! :cool1:

So glad you guys enjoyed dinner. the chicken dish looks really yummy. I hate when I am not feeling well and food loses (or gains) its taste. It's just not tight! I really need to try the grey stuff. It wasn't offered as a dessert when I was there .

Love the pictures of you guys with the beast. And great pics on Splash. And two rides and no ponchos. You are my hero. :rotfl2: That last picture of the MK entrance looks so cool!

Had to laugh at how your Sept. trip planning will most likely go down. Sounds very similar to my planning meetings. :rotfl: Just sit there and listen, I've got everything figured out. :lmao:

What're the odds you'd get the same table for lunch and dinner on the same day? Pretty neat.
(Unless you wanted to be in one of the other rooms, but, really...not many are going to complain about being seated in the ballroom.)

Can't beat 2 back to back rides on Splash, especially at night. That's one of the best times to go on it.

Oh man, that FB posting with me quoted feels like an eternity ago! :lmao: You're right, it's time to go back. And I just came back three weeks ago! ;)
It does feel like so long ago, and it never matters how long it's been since your last trip, it's always the time to go back!!

I did finally get to try Chicken Provencal on our last family trip but somehow I have no recollection of what it tasted like. I do remember I had my hands full with both kids that also involved two trips to the rest rooms. Maybe that's why I can't remember much. :lmao:
I remember it being a little spicy, but I don't really remember much either. I liked it! I wasn't even distracted, I have no excuse!

Isn't it cool that the Beast comes through the Ballroom?
I love it, and I loved that everyone clapped when he did.

YAY for two stellar BOG reviews!!!!! I've read some that aren't that great, but I usually put more faith in the good reviews than the bad ones. I'm generally really easy to please. Haha.
I hope you have a great trip, and a great experience at BOG!

Enjoy your retail therapy today. I know you are not alone in having a super snowy record. It's been like that all up and down the east coast and in the midwest. Crazy winter, but March is almost here! Yay! :cool1:
Oh I have been hearing about it from all around, it's one crazy winter alright!

So glad you guys enjoyed dinner. the chicken dish looks really yummy. I hate when I am not feeling well and food loses (or gains) its taste. It's just not tight! I really need to try the grey stuff. It wasn't offered as a dessert when I was there .
I didn't see the grey stuff on the Allears menu when I looked. I hope they didn't permanently take it off, it was so cool!

Love the pictures of you guys with the beast. And great pics on Splash. And two rides and no ponchos. You are my hero. :rotfl2: That last picture of the MK entrance looks so cool!
We never do ponchos, we just suck it up and wait to dry! :lmao:

Had to laugh at how your Sept. trip planning will most likely go down. Sounds very similar to my planning meetings. :rotfl: Just sit there and listen, I've got everything figured out. :lmao:
Exactly! That's the whole reason they're going with me -- for my knowledge! So they're going to have to listen up! :rotfl2:

What're the odds you'd get the same table for lunch and dinner on the same day? Pretty neat.
(Unless you wanted to be in one of the other rooms, but, really...not many are going to complain about being seated in the ballroom.)
I was so surprised we got the same table, so ironic. We were really happy with sitting in the Ballroom twice, I could stare around that room all day!

Can't beat 2 back to back rides on Splash, especially at night. That's one of the best times to go on it.
Absolutely, especially when the parade or fireworks are happening!

BoG is such a fun restaurant. I'm not the biggest fan of the food I've ordered but it is well work the visit. Em ordered the chicken and I tasted it - I agree the sauce was a bit strong. However, the remarkable theming far outshines any lackluster item on the menu.

I had trouble getting a photo of the Beast every time he walked in the room. He was too quick. I wanted to shout 'hold that pose!'

I love your castle photos after dinner. They are beautiful.

You didn't get wet on Splash being in the front? It doesn't look like it from the second photo! You are brave to go a second time. I'm a cold weather wimp so I avoid water rides when the temps are below 65 degrees (uhhh not sure what that is in Celsius. Looked it up since I couldn't stand not knowing. Would you believe 18?) :lmao:

I'm one of those who when I want to avoid the mass exodus after the fireworks get the heck out of the park lickity split!

Happy planning for your September trip. Or otherwise known as the best time to be at WDW since other (ahem) DISers will be there.

:cool1: Caught up on your report :cool1:

GREAT pictures from The Little Mermaid ride. I love the songs from the movie, and looking at your pictures made me wonder about how the music is done on the ride. Is it a non-vocal soundtrack or snippets of the songs with lyrics included?

What a nice break at AKL. My family does not typically take many breaks from the parks, and even when we do, it is very hard for me to sit still and relax. After about 5 minutes, I'm like "OK, I'm off to wander around. Meet you back at the room when you are ready to leave"

Also liked your comments about people offering to take pictures of you two. I try to offer when I see couples or families taking pictures so that the photographer is not left out. When we were on vacation last week, Mark commented to me. "Next time you ask someone if they want you to take their picture, you should pull out your camera and take the shot, say thanks and see what the reaction is" :lmao: I loved that idea, but I never got the nerve to do it.

That is fantastic that you had such a great experience at Be Our Guest (again). The food sounds really good. Sorry that you didn't enjoy everything as much as you would have if you were feeling better.

Love the picture of the parade from Splash. Impressive!

Cracking up at the two ride photos. The guy behind you is hilarious!

What do you do to protect your camera on the ride? Put it under your shirt?

"Dole Whip is a dish best served cold!" LOVE THAT!!! :rotfl2:

Oh the theming is just so far beyond anything I could imagine! I'd go there just to scrub the floors if it meant I could look up at that ceiling.

I had trouble getting a photo of the Beast every time he walked in the room. He was too quick. I wanted to shout 'hold that pose!'
I had trouble too, I guess he had to be quick so people wouldn't try to grab him to just get a "Couple of quick photos!" and then a line forms and... well you know. :rotfl:

I love your castle photos after dinner. They are beautiful.
Thank you :goodvibes Most of the credit goes to the castle!

You didn't get wet on Splash being in the front? It doesn't look like it from the second photo! You are brave to go a second time. Would you believe 18?) :lmao:
Nope, we didn't get too wet at all, a few splashes on the fave but nothing major. We're cold weather wimps in Disney too (ironic isn't it?) 18/65 can feel pretty chilly after a day temps of 35/95!

I'm one of those who when I want to avoid the mass exodus after the fireworks get the heck out of the park lickity split!
If we're not watching the fireworks, we get the heck outta Dodge. If we are watching them, we hang around forever until the herd clears!

Happy planning for your September trip. Or otherwise known as the best time to be at WDW since other (ahem) DISers will be there.
I was so excited when I learned that you guys (and quite a few others too!) would be there the same time as us, I went to my Mother in Law jumping up and down. She didn't quite get the whole importance of it, but she thought it was cool and was excited for me nonetheless!

:cool1: Caught up on your report :cool1:
Welcome back from your beautiful trip, Dee!!

GREAT pictures from The Little Mermaid ride. I love the songs from the movie, and looking at your pictures made me wonder about how the music is done on the ride. Is it a non-vocal soundtrack or snippets of the songs with lyrics included?
Thanks! Ok, my memory is telling me non-vocal soundtrack. To the YouTube! I was wrong. I just looked at a tiny snippet, but it had lyrics! I am at work so I couldn't watch the whole thing. :rotfl:

What a nice break at AKL. My family does not typically take many breaks from the parks, and even when we do, it is very hard for me to sit still and relax. After about 5 minutes, I'm like "OK, I'm off to wander around. Meet you back at the room when you are ready to leave"
It's hard for me to sit still too, and even harder for Johnny. He just does not sit! The most I sat during our break was my 15 minutes in the hot tub, the rest of the time I was wandering around with my camera! But I did go at a slower pace than usual, so it counts as a rest. :rotfl:

Also liked your comments about people offering to take pictures of you two. I try to offer when I see couples or families taking pictures so that the photographer is not left out. When we were on vacation last week, Mark commented to me. OMG If you do, I would love to see that. Can you imagine? It sounds like one of those hidden camera pranks!!

That is fantastic that you had such a great experience at Be Our Guest (again). The food sounds really good. Sorry that you didn't enjoy everything as much as you would have if you were feeling better.
We were happy to have two great experiences there, I was worried about building this place up in my mind and not loving it, thankfully that didn't happen!

Love the picture of the parade from Splash. Impressive!

Cracking up at the two ride photos. The guy behind you is hilarious!
Thanks!
Isn't that so funny? That's my favourite part of on-ride photos, getting to see everyone's faces!

What do you do to protect your camera on the ride? Put it under your shirt?
Yes! That's exactly what I do haha, it was even better that time because I had Johnny's great big sweater on. Lots of protection for the camera!

"Dole Whip is a dish best served cold!" LOVE THAT!!! :rotfl2:
:rotfl: That gives me an idea for the PTR...

Thursday November 14
"Photographer's Day Off"

We started the morning at 7:30 with breakfast. We weren't going far!

Mmmmm breakfast at Boma! One of my favourite Disney meals!

Once again I couldn't eat much, but I did enjoy what little I ate. Johnny loved his meal, and finally got his bacon.

My plate:

And Johnny's:

When we left we took a quick peek at the savannah, but apparently it was still too early for most:

A look back at our beautiful resort:

At this point I was getting utterly sick of carrying my camera around, so while Johnny went to the bus stop, I ran back to the room to drop off my camera.

Yep, you heard me. I went to a park without my camera.

And what park did I go to?

The most photogenic park of all, of course! :rotfl2:

But on this day, this photographer was on vacation from job and hobby, and just out to enjoy her time!

I did have my phone so I do have photos.

See?

We arrived at the gates at 8:30 and hardly waited at all before they allowed guests in at 8:40. Cool!

We went to the safari first. We had a FP+ for 9:00 so we took our time getting there, took some pictures but mostly we just enjoyed.

No thought process involved, just snapshots. Relaxing.

Continued in next post

Continued from previous

When we got there we were still about 5 minutes early. The CMs at the FP line saw us hanging around and said "Give it a try!" So we tried the MagicBands and the light turned green. Yay! Our line was non-existent and we were quickly waiting for our vehicle:

We were first on the truck and seated right behind the driver:

I did get a few photos, the safari was an average one with most animals out but inactive, the giraffes were coming pretty close though.

No view of the lion today:

Maybe a glimpse of the lioness' ears:

Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

After our safari we headed to the Pangani trail.

We usually really enjoy this, but in my notes I have written that it wasn't the best of days for viewing animals.

In fact, this is the only picture I kept!

If you came here looking for some great animal pictures you can try some of my past TRs! :lmao:

We exited the trail just in time to get across the park for my favourite show, and that's coming up next!
