Do Alaska Excursions sell out at Platinum and Gold Levels

I am a lowly silver level castaway and was wondering if we will be locked out of floatplane, helicopter, and dogsledding excursions? It seems that a lot of Alaskan cruisers have been on several Disney cruises and I didn't know if it is like trying to get a cabana on castaway?

Thanks

I monitored our cruise a couple of helicopter tours in Juneau sold out at 120 days the pilots choice was one,

But there was good availability on most trips through all windows.

I would recommend booking direct you save money snd getting a time that suits you.

We sailed early August.

It's not like getting a Csbana at castaway cay but if your after the one or two that did sell out its worth having a contingency.

I don't think any excursion sells out as quickly as the Cabanas on Castaway Cay.

Alaska excursions are very easy to do on your own. When we were in Juneau last summer there was a flight-seeing kiosk right at the dock and people were begging us to go on it. You can also take a city bus to the glacier and salmon hatchery for a lot less than what any cruise line would charge.

If you book with DCL some of it will sell out due to limited space. I really wanted to do the horse tour but waited too late they only take 10. I was travel with my mom was 80. I have been to Alaska before but if we return that will be something I plan to do. If you think you want to do it then do it. If you can't get the shore excursion with DCL look elsewhere they can be had.

Agree,

Whilst I was concierge and in the Walt I still wanted to control the trips and the times of the trips myself, I did two shore trips in each port all booked direct myself, I was very pleased.

It's easy yo do as everything is easy to get to in port, Juneau is the only dock out of town and independent operators pick you up there and there is a free shuttle to town.

An example was our Misty Fjords float plane,

I booked and chartered it for my family in advance and selected my time.

It was fantastic.

But the benefit was that even chartering it for ourselves and directing where we wanted to go, it had an advance booking discount and was far far cheaper than the DCL tour which is with other cruisers, so saved money, and it was private to us.

We also went to Glscier bay, and white pass railway with independent operators no meeting on ship, no waiting and loosing valuable time. We added in buffer time between tours and actually didn't need it so we went shopping.

On one bus and white pass tour, we had a 12 seater bus to ourselves on that keg and a chartered rail car on the back which was not crowded.

I didn't want yo run the risk of the tours I wanted running out, pilots choice was one I was after and it was sold out at 120 days. Concierge can book ahead of that date so I bet it was rebooked.

We have been to Alaska twice with DCL. We did not have trouble booking the excursions we wanted on either trip. From experience, I don't think you would have difiiculty booking the dogsledding excursion in one port or another with DCL. They offer lots of times and take larger groups. We did not do floatplane or helicopter tours, but I did monitor the shore excursions for our trip last year (late July) and the limited availability tours (the ones that you would book just for your family for example) were sold out in Ketchikan only. Hope that helps.
