UPDATE p. 37. I finally canceled. Too much uncertainty for us.

It's totally fine to choose the right vacation for your family. But coming on a Disney message board to complain about the new system, profess that you are NEVER GOING AGAIN, etc. without even trying the new system is annoying.

I would think that a Disney message board would be the ONLY place to do it. It wouldn't make sense anywhere else.

I suspect that these posters are hoping to influence others on the Boards to stay away from WDW. We were at WDW two weeks ago and I must admit that I was apprehensive after reading the negative posts. I'm glad that I didn't stress out too much about it because our trip using MBs and FP+ was fine. We are getting ready to book another trip and are looking forward to using the new system again.

I guess that's the point, I just think it's rude. I plan on having a great time at Walt Disney World in January. I booked my FP+ already. If I use them, great, if not, great.

And how do the other posters not happy with the upcoming changes affect your ability to have a great time at Disney?

If you are all set with how great it's going to be, I'm curious why you opened a thread about someone who decided to cancel in the face of so much uncertainty?

I don't recall seeing that anyone said that they are never going again. Most said they are waiting until the dust settles before they make that decision. However even if someone came on here(a Disney Board) and professed that Disney sucks and they are never going again why do people care?

I don't get why someone needs to defend Disney from some anonymous person that is venting their displeasure. I think its been discussed that Disney won't miss them.

I don't think the OP is trying to influence anyone else. She is just stating why she canceled HER vacation. I would take what she is saying at face value without trying to project what you think her motives might be.

Rude? I don't understand this at all. How is the OP explaining why she canceled her vacation rude? You should plan on having a great time at WDW, and I hope that you do.

Why would anyone care if someone else goes to WDW or not? I don't see the logic.

Plus I agree that I don't see how it's rude for anyone to post what their thoughts are. That's what forums are for.

Honestly, I doubt anyone who is venting about FP+ or talking about never going again is trying to influence anyone else not to go. I'd put a LOT more money on that these people just want a place to vent, and are thinking that the best place to be understood is on a disney message board.:confused3

I agree. Not saying about this OP, but in general, I also think that people are venting because they might be sad that their trips are changing.

Yes. Sad or even a bit angry.

I'd be upset if what we were accustomed to doing was fundamentally changing. We were pulling 7+ FPs each day, getting multiple rides on favorite attractions, and never, ever waiting in any line more than 20 minutes long, no matter the crowd levels. After seven wonderful trips following that pattern, being limited to 3 FP+s/1 Epcot headliner FP+ is a significant downgrade. There is no way to soften that blow for us. I understand the OP's feelings.

You...you...you superuser you! Disney wants to spread the FastPass wealth, whether anyone knows about it or not. ;)

I guess I'm entitled because I don't want to wait in line like I should. :)

I didn't take it as snark, just a question. :)

No, not the way we tour. We do areas. For example, we go to Tommorowland- the first thing we do is check the line for Space Mountain. If it is 20 minutes or less, we get in line. If not, we pull a FP- more often than not, that FP will kick in an hour or 2 hours later. So, we start doing Tommorowland things untill that time- Buzz, Laugh Floor, people mover, speedway etc. In Adventureland, we check Jungle Cruise- same thing. If line is too long, grab FP and do Aladdin, Tikki Room, see fairies, climb treehouse etc. until it kicks in. On the morning run FPs (Soarin, TSMM), there is more of a chance of having to run back over to the area- but at Epcot- there is Nemo, Crush, Land, Imagination, Character Connection which usually keeps us busy until Soarin, and at DHS, there is Little mermaid, Buzz and Woody (where the line is long), etc.

Really the only things we found ourselves sometimes crossing the park for were Peter Pan (because when DD was little that was the only thing at MK we fast passed, and we would get a new FP for it every time the old one was up and do it 4-5 times a day), and now occasionally for Splash as there isn't much in the area there to do, and that FP can take a few hours to kick in. Other than that, we really never did much park crossing at all...until our first experience with FP+ :sad2: We found that we absolutely did not get as much done in a day dealing with FP+. We had an extra day this trip, and after we left DH and I both felt like we did not get as much done as on our usual trips and for the first time we really felt "unfinished". You never can do absolutely everything, but this really felt like less than a normal trip. I firmly believe this was because FP+ was making us cross the parks and lose a bunch of time the first half of the week.

My DH and I just got back from an October trip to which we also added an extra vacation day. We tested FP+ and found that we also did a lot less than we usually do on our trips. In the past we would use the FP- system as we needed it and liked the flexibility. I hate booking things so far in advance and having to decide where I want to be 60 days ahead! We found that we left the parks earlier and spent less time shopping (good thing lol). It's kind of weird because my DH asked if I wanted to go back for another few days (needs to use rest of vac time) to see the Christmas stuff and for the first time ever I said "No thanks":sad2: and that I really didn't want to buy a new AP if Fp+ were being given in a much more limited amount, especially if we couldn't get FP for the second park of a park hopper day. We have a trip planned for 6 of us next May and I just don't feel as excited about going as I always have in the past. Yes....things change but not always for the better and I feel that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I am not a newbie to WDW. We have been going for over 28 years, own DVC, are AP holders (expired as of 10/25), and have been taking 2 vacation trips a year to WDW. I have written an email to Disney voicing my opinion and displeasure with the new FP+ system changes.

We are also skipping WDW this year until the dust settles. I can handle change, but not the stress of uncertainty. As others have mentioned, we're going to DLR to get our Disney fix this year.

Who on this thread has said "never again", though? My impression was more "not until the dust settles", which seems to me a perfectly reasonable response to this level of uncertainty over what is for most families a pretty major expenditure. Heck, I won't even buy new gaming systems at first release because I'd prefer the bugs that inevitably pop up under real-world conditions be worked out first. So I totally understand wanting to wait until the bugs are worked out of the MDE/FP+ system before spending thousands to experience it first-hand.

I'd be upset if what we were accustomed to doing was fundamentally changing. We were pulling 7+ FPs each day, getting multiple rides on favorite attractions, and never, ever waiting in any line more than 20 minutes long, no matter the crowd levels. Exactly. I've never really thought of my family as superusers. We might use 3 or 4 fastpasses in a day, only for the headliners that regularly post hour-long lines even in the slower season, and we seldom if ever ride headliners more than once in a day with the exception of the (now gone) very late EMH when we could walk on. So a system that makes it so we can only use FP for one of those attractions, leaving us in those long standby lines if we want to do more than one marquee ride in a day is a loss. And yes, I'm disappointed with that. The cost of our vacation goes up each and every year and this, to me, is a system that means getting much less for our money. And it certainly isn't the first "pay more, get less" change. At some point, there will be a straw that breaks the camel's back and it doesn't surprise me that FP+ is that straw for some.

All the best to you and yours, but with the economy being as bad as it still is and with a high percentage of people out of work and/or barely getting by paycheck to paycheck, I'm not going to say "sorry" to you like others have.

Be grateful you can afford to go on vacation and that you have a job to take a vacation from. Not everyone can or does.

I have to say that I don't think this is a fair assessment of the OP's mindset. Nothing she said comes across as ungrateful. She simply is disappointed and wants to discuss her feelings.

If I told you that I was going to stop going to restaurant "X" because they no longer make a particular menu item, would you try and make me feel guilty about that decision by telling me I should be grateful that I can afford to buy food and eat?

This is civilization.....the sad reality is there are those who have more and can do more. There are those who have less and can do less. Decisions that an individual make do not imply a lack of gratefulness for ones place in the world.

Most people seem to use this particular forum for one or more of these three purposes:

1. To plan their trips (duh, it's the name of the forum), looking for or sharing tips for what might make a trip better or worse

2. To vent when things go wrong before, during or after the trip

3. To seek warm, fuzzy, good feelings about Disney

Even when doing (1), a lot of folks may tend to slip a little bit more into (2) or (3), and some folks favor one over the other.

But there are a lot of folks who think either (2) or (3) is the reason for the forum and the factions can get nasty with each other.

I sure hope no one is that full of themselves on here and others are not that gullible. Even if all the negative posts did cause as many as 10,000 readers to cancel their upcoming vacations tomorrow that are scheduled in the next 3 or 6 months ...what small percentage would that be out of the millions who go to Disney? You wouldn't notice their absence or mine I assure you. :confused3

At least we are able to read other peoples thoughts, etc. even if you have to wade through some pretty hateful posts. It is better to be armed with information than not. I love reading posts from recent visitors. A lot of the typical visitors won't have a clue, even some staying onsite. I bet quite a few don't even use MDE or don't know about FP+.

If I were to cancel, and I'm deciding that over this coming week, the reason would be my personal experiences with Disney lately of which I have discussed on here because it is a discussion forum, negative or not. There seem to be too many hoops to jump through now. Too many changes, restrictions and the price hikes also come into play. Not to mention there have not been many real park upgrades or rides, although some are coming.

We love Disney, always had great trips. But drinking the Kool-Aid never did sit well with me, even Disney Kool-Aid.
