Three resorts? Wow, lucky you. I'm ready! Can't wait to see how you rate some of these restaurants. We are planning our ADR's and have a few of these in mind.

House of Blues-lunch

First on our agenda once we reached Disney property was to find lunch! We had just had a donut and coffee in the morning and some pretzels on the plane, so we were very hungry. I looked at the menu several times and thought it would be a good choice for lunch. The menu is larger and offers a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, tacos and entrees.

My mother couldn’t seem to find anything she wanted on the grown up menu, so she chose grilled cheese. All of the choices on the menu and yeah lol. Already in the vacation she is being picky?! Now I know how people with picky kids feel. Whatever…the grilled cheese looked really good I will say. I hadn’t got my camera out, so I only have one photograph.

Tacos-shrimp and avocado street tacos were dynamite. The shrimp were succulent and plump and the avocado perfectly ripe with cotija cheese for a salty finish. The pico de gallo had a kick to it, but I still piled it on top. The portion is on the small side if you are looking for full meal-perhaps split an appetizer or order a side if you have a bigger appetite. Cornbread is a must!
Giant loaf of cornbread served in a cast iron pan with butter-tasty.

My dad enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich, which was served on a huge manly sized bun dripping with smoked tomato BBQ sauce as well.

We had never been here so admiring the decorations and theme of the restaurant was really cool. It is on the dark side as far as lighting, but the booths were comfortable making for a pleasant atmosphere. The only beef my father had was there are no draft beers available from what I saw on the menu. However, our service was great and very attentive. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Joining in! I love that we have almost none of the same restaurants - so fun to read reviews of places we DIDN'T go!

HoB sounds really fun - I like that they have a nicely varied menu. And the tacos look great! :thumbsup2

Captain’s Grille - Dinner

Later that evening, we returned from the park and dined at the Captain’s Grille for dinner. I thought we would give it a try because it was close and readily available for an ADR. The restaurant was empty and we were seated immediately. We perused the menu while waiting for our server. It was a while before she arrived, but was friendly and pleasant.

I went for the wedge salad. I really enjoyed this dish with confit tomatoes, crispy bacon chunks, green onion and green goddess dressing with blue cheese over crispy romaine hearts. I am a blue cheese lover, so this was like heaven for me! A taste for all of your buds.

My mother had the farmers market salad sans mascarpone blue cheese and she enjoyed it even though they didn’t leave off the scraping of the cheese mixture on the bottom of the plate. It’s a good thing she is not allergic! The mixed greens were tossed with toasted pecans, oat crumble and craisins with a champagne vinaigrette with sliced apples.

Grilled pork tenderloin. This dish was on the lighter side being served with roasted pears and apples rather than a starch or grain. The pork belly was probably the tastiest part-delicious morsel of fat. The ham jus and pear puree helped add a salty and creamy texture to the plate.

My father had the special for the evening which was braised beef short ribs over noodles. He said it was good, nothing special. Mom had the strip steak, which was a bit on the tough side. She did substitute corn risotto for the side dish and that was fabulous.

No desert for us because we were going to check out the Stone Harbor Club offerings.

Overall it was good. Nothing special, but a good place for our first evening.
3 Stars-average

Captain’s Grille-Breakfast

On the other hand, breakfast here was great! We dined there 3 times for breakfast and with the exception of the day we did the buffet the service was good. It was annoying that you had to flag down the server if you need milk for cereal and oatmeal. I understand them not putting it out on the buffet because of them being pilfered, but warning upfront would have been nice. Other than that the food was great and it was never jam packed full of people. I think they are all over at Cape May!

Buffet offerings-Mickey waffles, broiled tomatoes with cheese and assorted pastries.

Chocolate chip waffles with bacon

Make your own omelet with tomatoes, onion, ham and cheese with hash browns and a biscuit

4 Stars-good

Oh man that wedge salad looks amazing!

And I didn't even realize that Captains Grille offered breakfast:confused3 We love a good breakfast buffet, to fuel us up for the day.

Love your review so far!

Yes, CG is a quiet little spot for breakfast! If you do not want the character experience, they have a really good buffet.

That wedge salad was yummy!
Thanks for joining along ;)

HoB was a really cool and there were very few people there. I think people forget about it during the day!

Thanks for joining along! ;)

Wow - Captain's Grille looks surprisingly good. I'm especially liking the looks of those salads - wish I had one of them right now!

Rose & Crown-Lunch

After meandering around the United Kingdom for a while, we check in at the outside desk for our lunch. Normally you wait a while to be seated, but we were seated within a few minutes of being handed our buzzer.

We were seated on the patio. It was a beautiful day with a light breeze, so I was not opposed to being seated outside, plus it is covered. Gareth was over to greet us within one minute of our arrival. He took our drink order, but we needed to look over the menu a little longer for our meal choices. My father ordered a Golden blend and I a Boddingtons.

I had to order my favorite Scotch eggs. It is not an item I can get where I live, so I am going for it. I have made them before, but they are a lot of work! Of course I have to make my own banger style sausage since its not a sausage you find in my neck of the woods. If you have never tried this delicacy it is a hardboiled egg wrapped with sausage, then rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried. This one is served with a mustard sauce, toast and a dressed watercress salad. Portable breakfast

My dad was the only one to try something different here. He previously was not impressed with the cottage pie because there were giant chunks of uncooked carrot in the middle. So he tried the ploughmans lunch, which reminds us a bit of a light Swiss meal. The plate consisted of a broiled chicken breast, slices of ham, and two types of cheese, a hardboiled egg and a hard roll garnished with watercress salad. He enjoyed it, but could not finish the plate.

I stuck with the bangers and mash, which is unchanged from the previous year. Two pan seared bangers over mashed potatoes and covered in braised cabbage and bacon-delish! Mom went with her staple fish and chips. The fish is now a larger filet with one as a portion. I had to snack on a few of her chips with tartar sauce.

We split the sticky toffee pudding to finish off the meal. Gareth did a wonderful job and was back and forth all of the time making sure we had everything we needed during the meal.

Lunch at the Rose & Crown was good, would have been better if the other guests had not been so disruptive! I cant believe a table of adults was letting a child run around and make excessive noise during a meal. Of course the other table was a large group of adults being loud and obnoxious and it was only 12:30 PM lol. I must be getting old, but I think some folks need to remember to use their inside voices more often.

4 stars-Good

The bangers and mash look wonderful. I have never dined there as we always go to Raglin Road, but am going to give it a try next time. We do love stopping in the pub though :rolleyes1

I really want to try R&C and hate that I have not found a way to fit it into our ADRs on any trip yet. Your review just makes me want to try that much harder next time! :thumbsup2

It is a very good dish. I enjoy Raglan Road as well and the larger menu makes it easier for everyone to find something they like.

Tutto Italia-Dinner

Tutto has always been a favorite of ours. We loved Alfredos too, but Tutto has been a reliable place for many years. They have had the same maitre de for years and nothing beats a greeting of Buena Sera from him as you walk in the door. We were seated immediately in the side room nearest the outdoor patio. We have never been seated over in this section and I feel like the atmosphere isnt like the rest of the restaurant.

Me likey bread sticks!!

Giorgio from Genoa was over within a minute or so to welcome us and offer us a drink. I went with the tropical iced tea instead of a cocktail as did my mother, but my dad ordered a Moretti. He was back in a few minutes with the drinks and to take our order. The menu has shrunk a little bit from what I last remember, but this seems to be the norm on property. We had some snacks at the Stone Harbor Club, so just entrees for us tonight. Dad went with the gnochetti, which is cavatelli pasta, sweet sausage ragu and tomato sauce. This dish is rich and filling , dont let the small looking portion fool you. This is my go to dish, but I was in more of a meatball mood, so I went with spaghetti with beef and veal balls with pomodoro sauce. Simple and delicious. Mom opted for the fettuccini vecchia Roma, another rich dish made with cream, pancetta and parmesan. It is similar to Alfredo, but has pancetta. The fettuccine is handmade and adds a different flavor and texture to the pasta.

Dinner was great and the service was excellent. My only gripe was that the food came out too fast, within 10 minutes of us ordering it was on the table. I know they were only about half full, but I would like to linger and chill a little bit! That being my only problem, it was a great experience. To finish the evening a cappuccino and a few bites of sour cherry panna cotta were in order.

Dude, wheres my biscotti?

Overall a great meal

5 stars-excellent

Mmm - the food at Tutto looks so delicious. I am so mad that we didn't get to try more WS restaurants on this last trip. Next time - I vow that next time we will!
