Linking friends and family in My Disney Experience

My parents are on a seperate reservation from us, so I decided to link them. I already had both of them listed, but of course they only have one MDE account, so I sent the invite to that one for both of them thinking maybe it was smart enough to recognize there are two people on that MDE account, and it would insert them both.

Nope. My dad is listed linked to his account, my mom's listing was just changed to generic "Guest 5" on all existing reservations and she was deleted from my friends and family list.

And as near as I can tell linking them serves no purpose currently. I realize that making FP+ for the entire party isn't planned for "several months" yet but I assumed we would at least be able to see each others itinerary, but I'm not seeing that either.

Is there currently any real point to having our MDE accounts linked?

Once in your MDE Family & Friends section, click on Add a Guest. Next, click on Select from Mutual Friends. You will see a drop down menu. Select your father from the drop down list. Everyone in his MDE acccount should show up. Click on your mother and she will be added to your list.

You have to make sure that on your account and their account under your profiles, it says "Plan:Add and View ALL" If it doesn't say ALL (instead of only shared activities) you won't see everything. And this could also screw up how your mother is listed when you see her.

I had a similar problem with my mother's account.

That did it of course, thanks. I had noticed the mutual friends tab, but thought it meant linking to yet other MDE accounts that are friends with my linked MDE accounts (like on Facebook or twitter). Thanks for your help.

MouseMom and gave great advice about the mutual friend thing and what Amy said is very important, you have to make sure that if someone actually has their own account (as in you didn't just create a profile for them, they have their own login) that you both have see all plans checked (not just see mutual plans).

There is just one more thing you need to do. Check the box that says you travel with this guest often. This moves them to the family list rather than just the friends list. Once these things are done you should be able to schedule FP+ for you all.

I spent this weekend fixing friends' accounts (getting ready for Jersey week). A lot of them had set up profiles for their husbands and then sent them an invite so they could see the account. Problem was that once their husbands accepted, they couldn't see their husbands' tickets anymore. They were convinced that the tickets got deleted. It was just a matter of setting all the permissions properly.

They HAVE to be in family to do FP+ For everyone? The way the check box is labelled is so counterintuitive then. We DON'T travel together often. This whole thing has such a long way to go...

No, they can be in Friends. By moving them to Family you will simply have greater access to their travel information.

Personally, I think the system is quite advanced. This is a huge project for Disney and most of the glitches have been minor. The majority of errors have come from user (guest) error, unfamilirity, or misunderstanding. Any large-scale project takes some time to run smoothly.
