Traveling without a credit card?

Does anyone know if they accept international prepaid credit/debit cards too? we are travelling from the UK and would prefer this instead of carrying cash.

Thanks!

You don't need to do that. For a 7-day cruise, if you state at check-in that you will settle in cash, they will give you a $500 credit line. Then you can settle it with cash at the end of the cruise and save the initial trip to Guest Services.

I know. It's just that guest service has no one at the counter the first day. And, I have little to do between boarding the ship and the muster at 3:45. Just something to do besides start the feeding frenzy!

How can you travel today without a credit card? In Seattle there are many places that refuse to take cash. Its credit/debit card only.

We put a CC on file, but always switch our charges to the debit card at the end of the cruise.

I was thinking of doing a pre paid cc too, but wondering if they work well in port (St. Thomas and St. Martin)

Beats me... To me it's a must. And I haven't carry a balance ever, other than the 6 months no finance the Disney Visa Rewards gives me.

Easily. We do it all the time with no problems.

How do you pay for things at the airport and on the airplane? Our airline in Seattle (Alaska) stopped taking cash several years ago.

So, these places accept credit cards, but no debit cards?

Is there a ATM on board? Or can you cash checks? I don't want to bring $2000 or more in cash?!?! What do you suggest?

I get $1000 (or more depending on the trip) in Disney Gift Cards. We use them in WDW for food instead of dining plan and then use them to pay for our on board acct on the Cruise. This way I'm not carrying too much cash. I always bring $50 in small bills for tips for room service and the baggage handlers. :thumbsup2

That's my question when reading this thread - who doesn't have a credit card? I understand not using it, wanting to pay cash and be debt free when you get off the ship, but not to have one? What if there is a travel delay or you need to suddenly rent a car?

I don't think I'd feel comfortable traveling without a credit card, even if I didn't want to use it.

I rent cars with a debit card.

Our card was stolen in May the day before a 3 week vacation. Took along cash and a couple of checks but were turned down at 6, yes that's 6, car rental companies at the airport to include all the biggies. No CC no car. They wouldn't do the debit card deal either. Money does not talk as much as it used to. The almighty credit card is king. We survived until the replacement one arrived. I hope to never have to go without one again. I'm sure there are ways to do your cruise without using yours. Good luck.

If you have a credit union or other favorite institution get a second CC and have your spouse carry the other card. Yes, you won't be earning points or other benefits but if one of them is lost you can revert to the other one. This also helps us because my husband can cancel a card immediately after a theft and he won't leave me at the grocery store unaware.

Exactly. Almost no financial expert recommends buying travel items on debit cards.

Very, very, very dangerous. You are basically giving people open access to your bank account.

Not sure how I'd function without a credit card! We don't carry a balance....ever. So much is done online now, requiring a cc and we travel a lot, also requiring a cc. Hate having to carry a pile of cash with me.

I have a credit card, but I always pay cash at the end. When I check in at the counter and online I select cash. I think now I am going to go with the gift cards, so that I don't carry around all that cash. Except for tip money of course.
