Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Today I did 11 miles in the rain. . . I mapped it just with a map, and didn't realize how many sidewalks would be missing, etc etc etc. . . But...I did it. Did it! I've never ran that far. Ever.

I both feel like "yeah, of course, I mean I *have* been training" and also "omg omg omg omg!" Gonna guess that's somewhat common. :)

Always an adventure on the uncharted/semi-charted course - been there & done that! Congratulations on your newest milestone (certainly not your last)! You should have an even better run in a couple weeks alongside runDisney friends. . .just leave that rain from earlier at home. ;)

Thanks! I just called runDisney and they confirmed I could pick up my daughter's packet without her being present (in case anyone else has that issue).

Great! Glad it won't be a problem for you or her school schedule - kids just hate having to leave school early. . . ;)

They probably mentioned it to you but in case anyone else reading has the same issue/question, the Final Race Instructions do mention needing to sign the waiver for minors. You can print and take with you or they'll likely have some available there as well.

Hope you and she both have a great time!!

what if they started the race, got as far as they could walk and then just dropped out? that would work wouldnt it?

I really don't know how sweeping works. I'd imagine they wait until the sweep point to bring the buses in. It's really easy to call/email RD to address your question.

There are official all over the course they can call for a small can to come get injured or they'll say you have to make it to a medical tent if the sweeper vans aren't out yet.

Started out on my 11 mile run today. Was sprinkling a little so high humidity but otherwise going fine. Made it almost 3 miles before I felt a pop in my right lower calf. Grabbed hold of a stop sign for a minute until I was sure I could put weight on it. Was sore and tender for a couple of steps.

Opted to call DH and have him come get me. Didn't want to even attempt to walk the mile or so home and make it worse. So RICE for me...and hoping its nothing serious.

I was contemplating yesterday signing up for the Triple Peach...its a 10 mile at the end of Oct and a Turkey Day half to go with the Peachtree RR 10k I already did in July. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on that yet.

Am very bummed right now...really hope its nothing.

Strange isn't it? A small $25 local 5k has chip timing, tech shirts and must compensate off duty LEO's for street control yet a Disney 5k costs $60, is not timed, hands out cotton shirts and is run entirely off the public roadways.

Disney has not chip timed the 5K's since the early 2000's.
I think that's a shame - wish they would time them. Feels more like an accomplishment to me somehow! Lol!

But...I did it. Did it! I've never ran that far. Ever.
Congrats!! I ran 12mi for the first time last Sun and felt as you did!! Tomorrow is 9mi... officially in taper... can't believe it!

Made it almost 3 miles before I felt a pop in my right lower calf.

Sending you good vibes!!! Hope all is ok VERY soon!!!

Is anyone going to wear their race shirt and medal the next day? I know they do for marathon weekend but didn't know if people do for the ToT?

Medal, yes! Shirt? Doubtful... last year's was big, ugly, hot and scratchy. Neither comfortable nor flattering lol!

Exactly! I bought the "I did it!" shirt last year and wore it instead. That tech shirt is just awful. The best part is that it glows in the dark!
I saw two girls wearing their medals and at least some of their race costumes the next day at MNSSHP. I only know because I was following them during the race and saw them from behind again the next day. They were super cute! Shirts said something like "follow the bouncing butt" and they wore green tutus with a light on the back. They were lightening bug from The Princess and the Frog.

i finished my 10 miles today didnt have much of a problem came in around 2 hours 10 minutes.. looking forward to doing the real thing in 2 weeks!

Am here at contemporary - it is very hot in the evening- getting worried about my time. Think i paced it too slow at home. Sure wish we had some evening tradewinds for the walk!

Tomorrow will be on the Dream - walking the deck or on the machines. Getting closer!

:) Just the next day? That's all? :)

That's adorable.

Are you going to do the Castaway Cay 5K?

Ah, tradewinds sound nice.

Good to have someone on the spot to tell us what the weather's like from a non-Floridian's point of view. :)

We don't usually do race shirts, but do usually wear the medal. You'll probably see quite a few people with them, so if you want to wear yours to bask in the achievement, definitely do it!

We wore our Goofy medals most of the following week - makes for more fun pictures and a more enjoyable trip overall.

Congratulations!!! :cheer2: I've been running 3 years now and still get "omg omg omg" moments!!! I ran 10 miles this morning and was "OMG" at the end because I haven't properly trained this summer so the 10 miles were gonna be questionable!

pixiedust: for a speedy recovery. So glad you were smart and had your husband come get you instead of chancing it!

I'm not entirely sure. Normally I only wear my medal the day of the race. But because this is a unique situation, I may wear it the next day but I'm not sure.

:offtopic: but related to the race. Just ran 10 miles this morning and did some newbie mistakes - not eating anything before going out for a run. So when I got home I was absolutely starving. Besides the food they hand out after races, will any food places in Hollywood Studios be open??

This will be our first night race, but others I know who ran last year said they haf some of the quick service places open there by ToT & RR.

Awesome. I may eat some bread type item right before the race but other than that, my last meal will have been at 2 pm and it will be something easy to digest so I am gonna be starving after the race!!!

I'm having DH bring some little things for me, too. If he weren't going to be there I would check something.

8 hours without food seems like a long time. I have a tricky stomach and am going to have to be careful, but 8 hours, I'd be dying!

Which reminds me I finally experimented with the Honey Stinger WAFFLES during my 11 miles, and those were nice. Didn't mess with my stomach, and when I finished I didn't feel as bad as I have with shorter distances but with only "chew" type things.

And that marked the second longer run that I've carried my hand-held water bottle. It doesn't bug me at all, so I'm pretty psyched about that.

I'm not running the race this year, but DH and I did it last year, and I love following this thread. I'm really curious how it will compare to last year. I'm hoping they tweak it from feedback, and if so, we'll be back, I'd love to do it with my DD16.

Just wanted to say, they did have a few food venues open! We ate at the Backlot Express. They have some decent options, burgers, salads. I had a veggie panini and it hit the spot. They also had food trucks before the race in the staging area, but believe me, the food options were nothing a runner would eat pre-race :) After the race, heck yeah!
They also had quite a few bars set up during the party with beer and drinks. It was almost easier finding alcohol than it was water. That could be a good thing...or not!

Bumbershoot...I love Honey Stinger Waffles! They are great for me during races. Easy to eat and a fair amount from energy from them. I use them with Sport Beans for some electrolytes. I love the Honey Stinger chews, but they very much don't agree with my stomach.

So excited for everyone doing ToT!
