Jessa Duggar (of the Duggar Family) is courting

We are a conservative Christian family, but I cannot imagine imposing those kind of restrictions on my adult children. I do like this family and I appreciate their values, but it's too much! A side hug and that's it? Mom and dad read all of their texts?!?

I do have to say though, I would rather live in a Duggar world than a Cyrus world.

Ewwwwwwww.......I choose neither of those worlds.

Oh, I'm bummed, I was hoping Jessa would be the first one to break free! All my hopes will have to rest on Jinger now!

I don't really see an adult asking her father's permission to court or text or whatever as that different than asking a father's hand for marriage or giving the bride away. I wouldn't have been happy with any of the above, but lots of people seem to want their fathers to have some sort of role in it. As long as it's their choice and they have the freedom to choose otherwise, I don't see a big issue.

wow glad for Jessa. i would have thought jana would have been the one to start courting first of the girls.

Perhaps she is their rebel and refuses to participate in "courting."

I always thought that they were supposed to go in chronological order. But if Jana wasn't completely toeing the conservative line, it would be a good explanation why Jessa's relationship would be the next one to be made public.

I do think the parents would be ok with Jana doing things her way, just asking her to be a bit discreet so as to keep up the image for their show.

I read on Starcasm.net that he owns his own windshield repair shop. Not many 18 year olds that I know own their own buisness
Don't any of them go to college?

I know Mom and Dad did, but why not the kids? Or would the 'real world' intrude too much?

... all the hate for this conservative family... elsewhere on these boards, discussion on why people think polygamy should be illegal and about the gay couple breaking up/divorcing are separating their twins. :rolleyes1

Crazy world - Ultra Conservative to Uber Liberal - and everything in between.

Says the person with :stir: avatar. :rotfl:

That said, I am not reading what you are reading. Most have said that, while they wouldn't live that life, it is who they are. No hate.

College is the "real world"? I always looked at it as 4 or more years of escaping reality.

Which is why the phrase was in quotes. More like being away from the influences of "their" world. Is their fear in allowing the children to fully experience a different world than their insulated one?

What works for one family won't work for another. I wouldn't expect anyone else to live like my family does nor would I want anyone else to think they know how we should live. I haven't kept up with this family. From what I've read though and the couple of interviews I've seen, they seem happy.

I was under the assumption she's the 3rd oldest girl. Maybe the older two aren't ready or want to be married at a young age.

I am anxious to know which of the the kids will rebel and do their own life....:confused3

A friends daughter has told her dad that there isn't anyone she is interested in so he has just said no to the guys who have talked to him. She just turned 30 and returned from a 3 month aid trip with aids orphans.

Otoh, the person who was my bf is a control fiend who won't let her son date until he is done with law school...

I love the Duggars! While I don't practice their lifestyle choices, I see nothing wrong with how they are raising their children. The kids are all happy, none of them seem to want out. I'm happy for Jessa. I wish I could do this with my own daughter, but in the world we live in it wouldn't fly.

They seem like a nice family. I think their practices are odd but hey, it's their life.

She's a pretty girl and it seems their relationship is progressing nicely. Good for her!

Doesn't a woman need to marry young to have a couple dozen kids? Methinks the elder DDs are on the road to spinsterhood . . .

I wondered that too. When they featured Anna's sister and her marriage to her husband, I thought ooh he's really creepy--almost too wholesome/goody goody. He almost made the Duggars seem tainted.

I really hope that they are not looking to pair the other girls up with someone like that and that the girls have much more input.

I'm not convinced that Anna's brother in law isn't gay.

I like the Duggars and while there is no way in the world I could ever live their life, I think there is something to be said for their convictions.

At the very least, marriage for these girls means they are no longer in charge of raising all of Michelle and Jim Bob's younger children! They can escape that for a little while until they have their own kids to raise....which will be soon after marriage because they do not believe in birth control, as I recall.

The two older girls are studying too be a midwife and a doula. They are working with a local midwife ... No time for boys

She is a very pretty girl. I always wondered what it will be like when one of them start dating....courting whatever.

I'm happy for her. It seems to me there would be such a limited dating pool for this type of courting. I mean , it might be difficult To marry off all of these Dugars. They do seem happy. But they don't know anything else.
