Jessa Duggar (of the Duggar Family) is courting

I find the asking permission way over the top also but glad for Jessa. Although that family has different ways all the girls are very sweet. They also happen to be quite pretty.

It is good to see them branching outside of the family

I realize this family rubs a lot of people the wrong way but I found this interesting.

She's 20 and has to ask permission to text her potential husband? I find that odd. I'm not against the Duggars by any means but this seems too overprotective.

but she is 20, if she wanted out, she could just leave. I think it's quite the reflection on the family that they don't. So far all the adult children have continued the lifestyle. I guess people could come up with all sorts of reasoning and claims of brainwash but after all the TV, crews, media etc, they stay.

We're totally opposite it seems but I like to hear about them, it's an interesting life.

Count me in as one of the people that are rubbed the wrong way. Yes, it is ODD that a 20 year-old woman has to ask permission from her parents to talk to a boy. It is also odd that she only "gets" to side-hug him and it is timed.

One of these days, one (if not more) of the kids is going to rebel.

I like to see what they are up to and watch their shows.

I appreciate most of their conservative values, however, the strict courtship rules and extreme fundamentalism are just creepy to me.

They do have some cute kids.

I think it is creepy how involved the parents are. Especially the dad. I don't know how they can honestly communicate about who they really are with their parents getting all their texts, etc.

That said, she really is a beautiful girl.

been watching courters for about 12 years now. All of them seem happily married so I don't knock it. Not what we expect for ours though.

yay for Jessa Hope he is a good guy.

I don't like the fact that apparently the parents have said no to other guys wanting to date their daughters. If she's the 3rd daughter, there are 2 older ones who aren't courting, because the guys didn't make the cut with the parents. I think the girls should have more of say in who they court than there parents (especially if there is not going to be any physical contact - let the girls have some say!).

We are a conservative Christian family, but I cannot imagine imposing those kind of restrictions on my adult children. I do like this family and I appreciate their values, but it's too much! A side hug and that's it? Mom and dad read all of their texts?!?

I do have to say though, I would rather live in a Duggar world than a Cyrus world.

wow glad for Jessa. i would have thought jana would have been the one to start courting first of the girls.

I watch the show, because it's a nice break from the evils of the world, even if I don't agree with their approach to relationships and women's roles. I sort of like the Duggars.

The article mentions that some guys have asked to court her and Dad has said no. That made me wonder, were they guys that she had interest in? Can someone randomly request to court their daughters? What if the daughter doesn't want to with a particular boy? Just curious.

I wondered that too. When they featured Anna's sister and her marriage to her husband, I thought ooh he's really creepy--almost too wholesome/goody goody. He almost made the Duggars seem tainted.

I really hope that they are not looking to pair the other girls up with someone like that and that the girls have much more input.

He's only 18 and she's 20. I don't know why but that surprised me. I would just think Jim Bob would want him to be older.

When I read the article it sounded to me that Jessa rejected the boys. If I remember correctly the parents do ask the girls if they are even interested in the boys that ask to court them.

How are they going to support themselves? I'm sure daddy dugger will give him a job.

With what, a homeschool "diploma" and the clothes on her back? That would make for such a great future for her. She is pretty much stuck with whatever marriage her father arranges for her.

... all the hate for this conservative family... elsewhere on these boards, discussion on why people think polygamy should be illegal and about the gay couple breaking up/divorcing are separating their twins. :rolleyes1

Crazy world - Ultra Conservative to Uber Liberal - and everything in between.

I read on Starcasm.net that he owns his own windshield repair shop. Not many 18 year olds that I know own their own buisness
