ECV at Por...a few questions

So one of our party will have an ECV at POR for a February visit. Not our first time there, but first time traveling with my sister who cannot climb stairs and needs the scooter to get around.

We have requested Alligator Bayou...lots of children in our group, and we like the size of the buildings better. Will Disney guarantee a first floor room for someone who is handicapped?

Will the ECV fit through the door of the room?

Can the ECV be left in the outdoor corridor overnight? Is there any outlet to charge it, if left outside the room?

I guess you can tell we have never done the ECV thing at Disney before. Appreciate any info you could give us.

I have always gotten first floor I explain that it is medically necessary the scooter will fit a lot of us don't recommend leaving in in the hall children could play with it and it might get unplugged having a battery that doesn't last the day is no fun

1. All of the Resorts (even the values) the doors are easily wide enough for any ECV or wheelchair.

2. Even with four people in a room, there is easily a location to park (and charge) the ECV. It might, however, need moving a table or chair to get it to fit.

3. It is never a good idea to leave it in a corridor overnight. Kids might play on/with it and unplug it (maybe even take the charger).

4. It is a terrible idea to leave it in an outside corridor overnight. There is always a probability of (heavy) rain.

Okay...rooms will accommodate ECV's...do not leave them outside in the corridor...got it.

You should probably put the first-floor request on your reservation in advance. Call and do it, don't wait for the online check-in and don't wait until you arrive. We've never had a problem with that request at resorts without elevators.

Our favorite resort is POR and we stay in Alligator Bayou and I use an EVC. I would yes ask for a 1st floor, because that section doesn't have elevators to second floor. Tell them you will be using an EVC. Also, you can charge the EVC in the room, however we have found the outlets to be sparse. I would bring a small orange electrical cord, (sometimes maintenance is a bit stingy on a loan) and have that so you may plug it in. We find plugging the EVC in at night right behind, directly behind the door gets it out of the way and closest to the outlet between the beds. (If you want even more room, request a corner 1st floor room as it gives you a turn around area in front of the windows)

Might I suggest looking at the map and picking a specific building to be equal distance to the back bus stop and a quick scoot over the bridge to the food court.

( We request the same room each trip and they always are so kind to honor the request.)

If you request it and explain for medical purpose you need it you normally get it. Also between me and my grandmother there are two ecv and we put them in the rooms and charge them. I wouldn't leave it in the corridor just because yes kids could walk by and play on it also if water were to get on it somehow it might mess it up. If you feel there isn't enough room in the room for it you can always request a handicap room or stack the chairs and push the table to the side so it gives you more room.

If you need more space in the room, you DON'T want to request a handicapped accessible room. They are the same size as other rooms.
The handicapped accessible rooms with roll in showers actually have less space in the bedroom area. Because they need extra bathroom space for the roll in shower, the bathroom 'space' gets 'taken' from the bedroom area. This makes the bedroom smaller.
