POR or POFQ?

We are a family of 5(boys 7, 4 and daughter 1) looking to stay at either resort next year. Is there a big difference between the two resorts? Any opinions on which one would be a better fit for us? Thanks!

I would choose POR In my opinion.

POR: The food is better there, and with your kids, there is a big waterslide and pool.

FQ: not that great of food, a small five second waterslide, etc.

Both: take the boat to downtown Disney!!

It depends on what you are looking for in terms of theming, room space, and amenities. POR is a larger resort with more amenities and room choices. POFQ is more compact, one main theme, and a few less amenities. Look over more detailed info of both resorts at www.portorleans.org.

The waterslide might do it right there! Lol. We wanted to do a moderate this time and I wanted to check this one out. Thanks!

I've stayed at both but decided to be a more frequent visitor to POFQ. The main reason was the walking and the bus situation at POR. I would definitely stay there again though. Honestly, if they hadn't cut breakfast from Boatwright's I would probably have returned.

I am jumping in on this thread cause I am trying to decide between these 2 hotels when I take my mom and son......

from a walking perspective.....is POFQ less walking from the busses to the rooms etc?

I would rather POR for my son with the pool.....so thinking if I did this resort with a preferred room...would that help with the walking??

Yes and Yes

I love POFQ, but with a family like yours, a room in Alligator Bayou of POR sounds like your best option.

What is the alligator bayou?

POR has two sections to it, the mansions and alligator bayou. The bayou is more wooded and rustic, and the rooms have 2 queen beds and a smaller fold down bed. The smaller bed is perfect for kids.

I agree. We loooove POR. I highly recommend it. We personally dont enjoy the smallness of POFQ. We dont like the short slide. I hate that there's no quiet pool. I dont like the theme of POFQ at all.

I love the fact that POR has bike rentals onsite, i love the fact that the food court at POR has more choices. I love yehaw bob in the lounge. The place is absolutely stunning, i love the mansions! so serene and beautiful. I also love that the boat picks up POR FIRST. Many times it would only pick up a couple of ppl at POFQ and leave the rest waiting for the next one because the boat was too full.

ITA with all of this :thumbsup2 We only ate dinner at POFQ during our last POR stay, but I just wasn't "feeling it" over there.

We loved the POR Royal Rooms so much more than we ever thought we would.

We're POFQ fans, can't stand the hugeness of Riverside and their 4 bus stops...

After a day walking the parks, sure don't want to repeat the same at my resort...

Since you still have one child under age 3, any of the resorts that sleep 4 will work for you. If I were you, I'd try out something that you could not stay in later when she turns 3. Could you afford to try WL or AKL? If not, from your choices, I'd go with POFQ while you still can.

We stayed at both last year and POFQ was our favorite of the two. POR was just too big for us with 2 small children. (Our kids were 5 and 2 at the time). The buses for POR were always jam packed and there are 4 stops so it felt like we were always stopping when we'd rather be on our way to the parks. One night, after standing in line for over 20 minutes at MK, we opted to take the POFQ bus and walk back to our room.

We said from that point on we'd rather stay at POFQ without getting a discount vs. staying at POR with a discount. The rooms at both were nice so for us, it just comes down to the size. And, for what it's worth, my son absolutely loves the slide at POFQ. It's a dragon theme and he thought it was great. He doesn't remember much more about either resort but the dragon slide made his trip. :)

I'm sure you'll be fine at either resort but if it were my pick, it's POFQ without a question.

Note: We didn't care too much about the food at either resort so our preferences are solely based on the size of the resort, the transportation, and the overall feel. We did use our refillable mugs at the food court and we did have one quick meal during each stay at the food courts but I felt like they were all serving the same food. If it comes down to amenities at either, know that you can use both at either resort when you stay at one.
