New additions to the Disney fleet?

We disembarked the Dream on 8/11  and while on board we had two CMs (both with over 13 years DCL experience) tell us that Disney was going to introduce two new ships in 2015 and 2016. One said they would be slightly bigger than the classics but not as big as the Dream and Fantasy. Have I totally missed this new flash? They both seemed like this was pretty common knowledge.

Most likely (Unless I am missing out) it is a rumor. Disney does however have 2 options with Meyer Werft to build more ships.

Oh that's Ricky Brigante, whom is an excellent source on a lot, except Disney Cruising. He's only been on 3 cruises - the two 2-night preview cruises for the Dream & Fantasy and one 4-night Dream cruise. He doesn't understand that talking to the DCL crew is like listening to WDW bus driver rumors. And yes, he heard it from crew, like the rest of us have as well. (Phil, a bartender no longer with DCL, told us on 2 separate cruises there would be new ships in 2015 & 2016).

Well now I won't say its just a rumor and I can't say its fact, I will say its possible and I believe 2 new vessels would be in size between the ?Classics and the Dream classes.

2015 also would not be impossible, but very hard to do in that time frame.

I would guess 2017/ 2018.

Time will tell.:thumbsup2

Rumors - the 'new ships' were supposed to be the reimagined Magic and Wonder. And only the Magic got announced. The Wonder originally scheduled for the fall of 2014, won't happen until at least 2015 due to the delay in the expansion of the Panama Canal. The changes make the ship a little longer and do not fit thru the canal at this time.

Even if they were starting a new ship right now, Disney would not tell CM before releasing the information to the public. Spending that kind of money (even for Disney) is too material to share with employees before releasing to the Street.

If they are planning on a 2016 or 2016 additions to the fleet, they have been working on the plans and details for a long time already.

This would include reviews and approvals from any outside Maritime groups( class, insurance and P and I, flag country authorities, the USCG, etc.), not to mention naval architects and the builders who are being considered .

So even if you kept any plans from CM's(which I don't believe they could), they is plenty of other sources.

Anyway, Time will tell.:thumbsup2

We were on the Dream in July and heard from two different crew members that there were new ships coming. At the Captains reception (gold & platinum members) we had an long chat with the captain. I asked him about the new ships and he adamantly denied the rumor.

According to a consular at the vibe who's been with the company for 8 years they were going to announce 2 more in 15 or 16 that will be bigger than the magic and wonder but smaller than dream and fantasy

This rumor has popped up a few times this year. File it under "I'll believe it when I see it.":thumbsup2

It is true that DCL has options on 2 more ships with Meyer Werft, but the drydock needed to construct ships of this size is currently booked up for a few years with Norwegian Getaway, Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and the 3rd Quantum-class RCCL ship already under construction or in line.

Add me to the list of "I'll believe it when I see it" camp. :)
It would be nice though 2 see the DCL fleet increase by 2 :boat:s

There was a captain talk on our Alaska sailing. I don't know if they offer this on every ship. It was very informative and it was your chance to ask questions about the Wonder ship. I was bummed that I had to leave the discussion early due to brunch at Palo. Anyway the captain was asked about additional ships, I think he said we are going in a different direction at this time with re-imagining.

I think it's very possible for two new ships in the future, but I don't see them being ready for 2015. From what I've seen and read about the cruising industry, they think years and years out. I would figure they would've already announced if a new 2015 one was coming. But I don't really know a whole lot about this kind of stuff... :goodvibes

We just got off the Fantasy a few weeks ago we asked a cast member on Castaway Cay the question of how many days there is a ship on the island. I can't remember exactly how many days now but I think it was 5 or 6 days a week was the response. He said it will be less this summer once the Wonder and Magic are away. He then said it will be busy once the 2 new ships are delivered in late 2015 and 2016.

That peaked our interest in this topic and after we got off the ship and were renting a van, a cast member was renting a vehicle for his team for a day off the ship for a few hours. We asked him about the new ships rumor and he immediately stated there will be 2 ships with the first one delivered mid to late 2015 a second one in 2016.

Could forcing us to use our dummy cruises within 18 mo. have anything with keeping us from sandbagging the dummy cruises for the new rumored ships? Rumor or not? I also heard something about leasing ships and not buying them.

He's full of it. No new ships have been announced and they take several years to build.

If a new ship was being put out by mid 2015 then surely there would be something confirmed by now. It seems a very short amount of time to build and market. Royals new Anthem arrives April/may 2015 and the itineraries are already out and go on sail in the next fortnight. I would love there to be new ships but the timescale doesn't seem right.

Agree

And

There is a long waitlist at all the best shipyards.

And

Major capital expenditure commitments will have to be made public for stock market companies.

The quote we got when someone asked about new ships during the Q&A in "The Making of the Dream" talk on the 2/16-20 cruise was: "We have to pay these ships off first."
