Do You Sprinkle Any Pixie Dust?

I had a transaction coupon to a crafts store yesterday and I bought glow bracelets to pass out while waiting for fireworks. Thanks for that idea!

Today I will be making buttons with my button maker. I am going to do Monsters U, Little Mermaid, and maybe some Marvel and Star Wars.

I am undecided about stickers. This is a fun idea, easy, and inexpensive, and I know kids love stickers. But after working at an elementary school for so long, I've learned that teachers and staff don't like stickers because sometimes kids will stick them to walls, desks, windows, floors, and other things. So, what do YOU think? Should I stick to glow sticks and buttons? Or should I also give out stickers and hope the kids use them respectfully?

Im not very fond of stickers either!!! LOVE the button idea that would be awesome!!! I wish I had a button maker!!!

My first offer of pixie dust was rejected. I offered a Buzz Lightyear button and the family said no. The son was wearing a Buzz jacket so I thought he'd like it. I feel discouraged now :-(

Don't be discouraged! It is bound to happen at some point or another; there is a child out there that will only be too happy to have that button. Give it another go ; D

Don't be discouraged! Some people are just really protective of their kids; even in situations most of us would be comfortable with, they aren't going to let their children take anything from a stranger. Or, they're mistrustful (is that even a word?) of others' intentions in general. That's life, I guess. I just try not to let it get me down.

It's happened to me, too!

We got a "good on any attraction" fastpass when Soarin' broke down after we'd been in line for almost an hour. It was near the end of the night, and we were heading back to the hotel. My husband tried three different families before one would take it. I am pretty sure the first few thought it was some sort of scam. And even then, I don't think the ones who took it really realized what was going on. We kind of just shrugged or shoulders and moved on.

I gave mine to a family with two teens/tweens. I explained briefly what had happened, and what the pass was for. The kids were pretty excited, which made us pretty excited.

So, don't give up just because your first attempt was less than stellar. The excitement of the second family more than made up for the first experience. I'm sure the same will be true for you!

Since taking my niece on her first Disney trip (DLR) I have purchased or made things for her to give to other kids. The first year I made a few Eye Spy Bottles to give out. She gave one to a boy around her age (3) while we were waiting for the parade to start. Then another day we went over to a nearby table where a mom and two girls were waiting for the dad to bring the food. They were getting hungry so we gave them an Eye Spy Bottle to keep them busy until the food arrived.

Then the next two years she got more and more brave and was handing out the gifts by herself. One time at WDW we were waiting for Illuminations to start and she wandered off so far I had to call her back. When she came back I asked her why she went so far and she said "I couldn't find any girls". We did the MNSSHP 3 out of the 4 times at WDW and had so much candy that we brought all the non-chocolate stuff to the parks and handed it out during parades the following days.

I already have some gifts planned for this trip for both niece's to hand out.

I usually get some pins I don't want to keep and don't have time to trade, so I'll give them to the people I sit next to on the parking lot tram.

When I start working, I'm hoping to be able to do much more, like give out re-add passes and of course the mysterious Cast pins

I have a ton of glitter at home. I am thinking I am going to spread pixie dust by giving pixie dust . Maybe like an Izzie pixie dust pouch. I made one for my daughter last year and she still wears all the time. hmmm

I think I will hand out some glow bracelets next trip! We were in Tahoe for fourth of July this year and this nice couple walking with us (on the poorly lit street) had a ton of glow bracelets and necklaces and they gave my boys a bunch. My kids were SO excited! I'd love to do that for someone else. Dollar store better what out before our next trip! LOL.

We also give away fast passes before they started enforcing the time windows.

Once at WDW, we got some magic fast passes from attending the DVC spiels. It was our last day and we couldn't really use them. While riding the shuttles back to the hotel to checkout, we scanned the bus for a group with kids that matched the number of passes we had. Oddly, all the groups were small so we ended up giving the passes to an exhausted father and daughter also heading to their hotel to rest. They got very excited and called ahead to the rest of their family to have them come back out to the park to make use of all the passes. Suddenly they were not tired anymore

We were also on the receving end of pixie dust some years ago. While waiting for the Jedi Academy to start at DL, DS was patiently sitting in his stroller. The young couple (why do I feel old when I say that?) in front of us gave him a stuffed animal for no reason at all. We still have the toy and all still remember that event.

I would love to do something like this, as i work with kids and its totally up my alley, but it's just myself and my boyfriend going to Disneyland and I worry that parents seeing adults giving away trinkets like that with no kids of their own would be on an even higher guard as to why.... It doesn't help that my boyfriend is 6'4, huge and bearded, likely to look more at home in a biker bar than in the magical world of Disneyland! He's actually a teddy bear but just doesn't look it, lol!

Our trip is 11months away and I have already started getting them...im going to give my kids 3 pack each to give away...I think there are 5 in a pack....I also want to get the little things of bubbles with cars and princesses for them to hand out

Several of the restaurants at Disneyland have 20% off coupons attached to the bottom of your receipt and they work at several stores inside DL, DCA, and even at World of Color in DTD (but you have to use it before a certain time- I think 1pm?) Anyway, I had a bunch of extra receipts and I was done shopping so I wandered around one of the stores looking for people with lots of stuff ready to buy and/or large families and I gave them all away. It was really fun to wander around the store looking for people to sprinkle w/ a little "Pixie Dust".

I would love to do something like this, as i work with kids and its totally up my alley, but it's just myself and my boyfriend going to Disneyland and I worry that parents seeing adults giving away trinkets like that with no kids of their own would be on an even higher guard as to why.... I think if you first strike up a conversation w/ the parents, you know the usual waiting in line or waiting on the sidewalk for a parade type of chit-chat, then it wouldn't be weird at all to hand them a little trinket for their kids. As a parent, if you just walked up to my kid and offered him/her something, I'd be taken a back and perhaps a bit suspicious. But if we were chatting and you asked "Hey, I have trinkets I brought for kids, can I give you one for your son/daughter?" I would be totally ok w/ that!

Agreed! I would be leery of someone handing me anything just in passing, but if I had some kind of interaction with a person, even brief, I would probably be OK with accepting something. There are lots of opportunities to strike up a short conversation in line!

Last year while waiting for the parade I gave DD3 glow bracelets to hand out. She had so much fun giving them away and the shocked look on the parents face was good too. So many people kept telling her they didn't have any money and she kept insisting she was "sharing." She's already asked about doing it this year. I also got some Disney Princess Squinky rings for her to give out to little girls having a rough day while we are out and about during the day.
