Splitting the Bill

I have kind of a random question,

I am going to using the DxDP in September I have used it many times but this time is unique, My family is going for my little brothers 9th birthday he had the option to pick any resort and he chose POFQ he loves beignets (why can't he love dole whips right???)

Anyway we are a family of 5 but my grandparents are traveling with us so I am going to be in my grandparents room so when we go to restaurants obviously we will be on the same dining plan so my question is do we have to be on same bill or could they take their card and my card and charge us separately? So I can just pay for my tip...

Thanks in advance :)

You can (should/must) have your meals deducted from your dining plan credits, and others traveling with you but on separate reservations/rooms would have their meals deducted from their dining credits. you manage this by advising your server who is with whom before ordering.

Any additional charges incurred by an individual party would be billed to that party only, including all items and charges not covered by one's specific DDP.

Correct me if I am wrong...

But if the reservation is for a group of 7 (family of 5 and grandparents) it won't matter will it - each bill will have a 18% tip because the reservation is over 6 people

I think that is correct...
i guess I am just wondering if they will allow the bill to be split between one rooms DDP? It's a weird question I know lol

Questions about this thread's topic are restricted to a single dedicated thread on the main Restaurant Board. Expect this thread to be locked relatively soon.

eta: rereading the question - probably not, but you can ask.

Because of the title this thread might get locked since all tipping questions are addressed on a sticky at the top of the restaurant board.

However, it's really more about splitting the bill when on the dining plan.

The server will ask if anyone is on the dining plan. You and your grandparents will be on one dining plan since you're all in the same room. Let the server know that you would like your bill separate from your grandparents. I'm assuming you and your grandparents will have separate credit cards attached to your resort reservation for charging purposes. You can always have the front desk at your resort print out your ongoing charges to see that your charges and your grandparents charges have been assigned to the correct credit card because errors can happen. Dining credits are pooled among everyone in the room so you'll have to keep track of those on your own.

Oh, and let your server know that the rest of your family is in a different room and therefore will need their bill separate from yours and your grandparents.

I know that if all 7 are dining together - then they will receive 2 bills - 1 for one room and the 1 for the other room. That is where I was wondering about the automatic 18% gratuity.

As for splitting the bill into 3 tickets - one for the family of 5 and one for the grandparents and then 1 for the other person - I am sure that they could do that. just ask the server at the beginning of the meal but if everyone is eating together - I still believe that each bill will have the automatic 18% gratuity since it is over 6 people.

Yes, the 18% will be on there. It's based on total party size for the reservation.

As an FYI, you can split the bill anyway you want (well, above and beyond what's required due to differing rooms/payment options). As such, with you in your grandparents' room, when the 3 of you are together, just let them know that your check should be separate. Doesn't matter if you're both on the "same" dining plan or not. (Letting them know ahead of time, e.g. when you order drinks, will be helpful to the server so they can properly enter it the first time, rather than splitting it up after).

I'm agreeing that this is not about tipping. It's about splitting the bill. So I'm not going to close it but I might change the title.

I've never before seen any questions here about splitting the bill WITHIN one room's dining plan. So I don't know if they can or will do it. Maybe someone who has firsthand knowledge will chime in.

Thanks guys I did not know how to title it I guess It is a really really odd question but Normally college kids do not go on family vacations I guess or they do not have a 10 and 11 year age gap between siblings... But this was something I have never come across so therefore I thought that someone on here would have an answer :)

I understand its an odd question but I honestly just do not want to deal with paying my grandparents back for each meal because I really only use my debit card I hate cash... I can do it if I have to but to be honest my grandparents at times drive me a little crazy I love them but if I do not have to deal paying them after each meal or keeping a running tab it would make my vacation easier :)

It's done all the time and not uncommon at all. I've had parties of 16 all separate checks.
Enjoy!
