I'm just wondering how everyone brings snacks into the parks. Do u use zip lock bags or does Anyone have a favorite container they use?? We r visiting in January 2014 with DS who will be 2. I figure we shuld bring a lot of snacks

I used to bring an old Emerald Nuts container - not very big, but it would fit a couple of packs of pb crackers and a pouch or two of snack mix. It was plastic, so it kept the crackers from crushing in my backpack, and clear, so the security folks could see what was in it. It had a screw-top lid that didn't pop off.

I am not a "pack everything but the kitchen sink" kind of mom, so taking just a few items was all I cared to do.

We use a Sumo Snack Stack by Zoli.

It holds a lot (way more than I thought it would). It creates a good seal. Each compartment creates the lid for the compartment below it (bottom is raised so it won't touch the table). The only downside is that, because it holds a lot, it's kind of big. In a backpack or large purse, that's no big deal, but if you're trying to use a small purse it's not going to be easy. There is a smaller version, but I don't own that one so I can't really compare them.

we use garden grocer to get larger packages of snacks & then transfer them to zipper closing bags (which we bring from home) - the zipper closing bags are great for wet clothes - baby wipes - a complement of dry clothes - and anything else that we would need - there are a lot of snacks w/the kids meals - so we dont' take a lot - just enough to cover the odd periods in between meals

Our last trip was the last one we'll take with a stroller unless we are blessed with more little ones. We used a soft-sided cooler that had a hard-sided insert to keep things from being squished in the bottom of the stroller. We were surprised how much we liked being able to stop almost anywhere and eat lunch. We packed sandwiches, mini-pringles cans(contraband at home, but again...wouldn't get squished and we reused the cans for cereal and trail mix,) apples, oranges, and maybe some other small snacks. Each member of the family had a camelbak straw cup, and we carried the little flavor packets to keep our boys chugging water and staying hydrated (again, not drinks they get at home!) I'd use something you're used to...what works when you go on other day trips at home? The only thing we did differently was to use a combination of reusable and disposable containers for snacks and food, while we use primarily reusable stuff at home.

Normally, I buy the big containers of things and portion them out myself, but for vacations, I buy snack-sized packages of raisins, goldfish/bunnies, Pirate's Booty, etc. and juice pouches. I don't want to come back to the room and wash snack containers, but that's just me. I do bring Brita bottles for the whole family to save money and not have to lug full water bottles into the parks. It's nice to fill them up at the fountains or with free ice water.

Is free ice water available at counter-service restaurants?

Yes! You can get free cups of ice water at any restaurant or stand that serves drinks. You don't even have to order anything.

At that age, i packed DD's snacks in small, snack sized ziplocks. I went for a smaller quantity with a large variety so that she was always surprised/interested and would finish it off once she started it. That helped when we were in lines for rides, buses, waiting on shows.... Whatever, just enough for a quick snack then toss the baggie. That way my bag got lighter and more organized as the day went on, lol.

Dh's pockets :rotfl: we fill his pockets with bottled water and granola bars.

Taking an almost 3 year old in a few weeks. Here's what I am planning to do. I am going to use quart-sized zip loc bags and label one for each day in the parks. Then I'll fill each one with a variety of snacks. This way I can just grab one each morning to put in my purse. I may make a couple of extras for days when we go back out in the evening. I'm planning on fruit snacks, gold fish crackers, fruit by the foot (her favorite), some teddy grahams, cereal, etc. I like the idea of a big variety but small portions. I'll use snack sized ziplocs for the portions inside when I don't have individually wrapped packages.

We use the zip lock bags for gummies and other snacks but use disposable ziplock containers or other hard containers for the peanut butter crackers and granola bars so they don't break.
