Has anyone who purchased DVC
Ever regretted it?
If so, why?
Might need to sell, any advice or info???
Thanks to the FABULOUS economy we may be selling our points for VWL. I'm absolutely heartbroken but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Counseling of Debt?? Has anyone ever heard of this before?
We've been trying to sell our contract since April through the Timeshare store but haven't gotten a buy yet. Now we are having trouble making our loan payments.
I called DVC today and the women told me I could sign over my contract to Disney in what is called a Counseling of Debt.
I am a current DVC owner and need to sell due to family changes (AKA another baby on the way)
Selling DVC Membership - Financial Difficulties
Hi All, Has anyone had any experience in selling their DVC ownership?
Due to the fact that we are constantly struggling to maintain payments on our membership, the only sensible thing to do is to sell it, but I am not sure how straight forward that is.
We have had our SSR (150 pts) since 2005 and I think a balance of cost and also our changing family holiday requirements (2nd child on the way) have made it that selling is probably the best option for us.
selling our DVC - I hate to even go down this road, but it may be necessry due to recnt events
Need love having to sell ;-(
I am just devastated. We have a large blended family and will be hard pressed to help our kids with college and weddings. Our DVC holding was the only thing that I was really excited to leave to our kids and future grandchildren. It was paid for and safe. Not so much anymore.
Help - Need to Sell, sad tale ..
This is NOT an ad to SELL - just my story -
We have been OKW members since 1991 and have loved every year of ownership.
My husband recently suffered a Stroke and we won't be using DVC anymore!
Selling DVC
I am trying to get out of debt in four years. To do this I should sell my DVC.
I have a few questions and if anyone has the time to answer them I will be greatful.
Is anyone else getting frustrated with availability and choices?
I have to say I'm finding it harder and harder to go where I want to go when I want. Now, keep in mind, I'm a planner. I typically don't wait until last minute, however, on every now and then we want to go somewhere with maybe 2 months planning. We tried this for this summer and for two properties in the Lake George are (one concierge collection and the other RCI) I was told no availability until September! I gave them the whole summer to find something and nothing!
Anyone else???
Ready to sell DVC, not happy with it
We've been members for about 5 years now, and I absolutely loved my DVC membership up until the last few months. Now I'm ready to sell for the following reasons. Am I crazy?
1) Our most recent visit to BWV this week was awful. We were in a studio on the first floor and the condition of the room was not good...
3) $700 a year in annual dues is a lot...
4) I am not happy with the fact that Disney continuously markets and sells DVC rooms on a cash basis for tad over the cost of moderate resorts at peak season...
5) It is becoming increasingly difficult to get a reservation that we want. Every time I call, either none of our dates are available (and we are quite flexible) and/or the only options are OKW or SSR. Fortunately, a few of those times, our waitlist request has gone through which was nice, but I don't care to count on that. 5 years ago, we would get the dates and location we wanted first try. Now, its nearly impossible.
6) The buses seem to be getting worse too...
We visit WDW 1-2 times a year, and it just seems to make more sense to me to purchase reservations each time than deal with all the hassle of DVC...I'll take about a $5000 loss if I sell now, but I figure that is $1000 for each year that we used the club + dues, which I can stomach.
Overall, I like the flexibility of paying cash for reservations each year. I like the ability to stay on the monorail on the dates that I want. I like the quality of non DVC resorts. DVC just doesn't seem to have a place for me anymore. Am I crazy????
Frustrated New DVC Member
Looking for input from experienced DVC members. My husband and I have been members for 2 years now and we are incredibly frustrated by how hard it is to get reservations without planning 9 to 11 months in advance. We had hoped to use our points with less planning required since we don't have children and our schedules are rather flexible. Did we make a mistake? Would we have been better off just watching for deals at the resorts and scheduling trips as they came up up with discounts?? Right now I would be more excited about getting a PIN with a 30-40% discount then being frustrated by the fact that I can't seem to find reservations when I am within a couple of months of wanting to pop down to Disney for a few nights.
most of them are not hanging around the DVC forums any more. some didn't understand what they were buying and were frustrated. some got in too deep financially. some enjoyed DVC but had job losses or their family situations changed or their health declined. google can help you find them, though, if you want to read some of their stories:

WE are finally buying now and I have to say if we bought earlier we would have been in the "have to sell" group and it would have been at a loss most likely. We waited and we paid cash for a resale and that takes the burden off. Early we would have bought direct and made allot of payments and we have suffered more then our share of layoffs. That being said you also need to look at when your kids (if you have any) grow up and leave teh nest will you and your spouse still wnat to vacation at DVC? We know without a doubt we will and are already planning future trips when we are empty nesters, I think allot of folks enjoy it when they are with the kids but once the kids are gone the thought of going to Disney is not so magical,
Glad you are doing the research first it may save you some heart ache later

I am often surprise how folks try to look at the financial aspect of the decision to buy. For me it is a luxury purchase like a boat, nice car, etc. Financially speaking, you are better off putting $10,000 in a mutual fund and investing $50 a month (MF). At the end of 30 yr you may have a pile of money. With DVC, you end up with $0 after 30 yrs.
Sure, you will have memories, vacation photos, and fun at DVC but that is the reason we buy. Most important is can you afford tickets, travel, food, and other cost associated with ownership.
I like the DVC plan. I get to plan a vacation with family or friend each year in a place that is loaded with fun and food. My advice is look at the whole cost and do not finance anything long term.
My family is planning a second trip this yr. Room on pts, PAP for tickets, TIW card, and 500 pts on Visa reward. With gas and food, a 6 day trip should come to $800 OOP for this trip. That's the benefit if that helps.
No regrets!
