2 rooms at Poly or 2 bdrm villa at Boardwalk??

We are planning a trip for Aug 2014. There will be 3 adults and 5 children (ages 17,17,14,3,and infant). We are looking into different room configurations for our large group.

This is going to be a special trip for us to celebrate my oldest daughter and her best friend starting their senior year in 2014, my second child starting high school, and my husband finishing his degree. To celebrate we are thinking we would like to stay at a deluxe resort. Normally we stay at moderates.

Anyway, we have been considering renting vacation points and staying at a 2 bedroom villa at Boardwalk if we can get it. I also ran some prices and for close to the same price we could get 2 standard rooms at the Polynesian, which then we would split up our party into the two rooms.

Like I have said, we have never stayed at a deluxe resort and I am wondering what would be the best and what other people think of these two resorts.

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

I would go for the 2 BR Villa. You get a full kitchen plus a washer/dryer. Many would say Poly for location to MK but BW is next to Epcot and a boat ride there and HS.

My choice would be 2 rooms at the Poly. We love the Poly for many reasons including the beach for watching the fireworks, the pool as it backs up to the beach with a distant view of the castle while swimming, and Caption Cooks for quick CS meals (just to name a few). We also love being close to MK, with the GF & CR just a monorail ride away for a variety of dining/shopping options, as well as the WL being in close proximity for the same reason. Also, the MK is just 2 monorail stops away and it's just a 5-7 minute walk to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. Good luck deciding, although I'm sure you'll have a great trip no matter which resort you choose.

We are doing almost the same thing!! We are taking my DD18, her friend 17, DS 15, his friend, DD7 and us parents on vacation in March. We opted to stay at FW. I booked a camping site, but will switch to cabins when discounts come out. I would love to stay at BW, but I figured the boys would enjoy the fort. :lmao:

Wow. Just booked 2bd villa instead of 2 rooms. I haven't officially made up my mind but booked the villa just to ensured we'd have a place. If discounts/promotions come out sometimes the villas are excluded so I might move to 2 rooms at that time if available.

I'm struggling with a similar issue: two rooms at Poly or Grand Floridian or a suite at the Contemporary. We're 4 adults and 3 kids. It's not so much about the money, as it is about whether we want the suite (togetherness) or the rooms (discount.) I booked the suite this morning to make sure we have it. Did you book the Villa online? I can't seem to get Villa prices for some reason...

Okay, I haven't stayed at either resort, but we have done both connecting rooms at WL and villas at SSR and BLT.

We travel with either my parents or ILs and 3 little kids. Honestly, I prefer the villas over the adjoining rooms because:

1. washer/dryer. Great if you want to pack light/avoid airline baggage fees, if you plan to swim (nice to throw the suits in on gentle cycle before you go to bed @ night) or if you're like me and you know you're going to spill food on your shirt at dinner and you don't want to go home with stained laundry. ;)

2. full kitchen. We get the meal plan, but still like to have coffee and b'fast before heading out to the park. I don't like spending credits on breakfast and would rather save them for signature dining/meals that would be more expensive OOP. It's also nice for keeping bottles of water, etc. and it's great to have an actual table to sit and eat, etc.

3. living room. We can be together and watch TV at night or we have the privacy of our rooms if we don't feel like sitting with everyone else.

4. cost For us, the cost was a *wee* bit cheaper to get a 2-brm villa over 2 adjoining rooms. And in BLT, you get 2.5 bathrooms! Woo hoo! Again, though, I don't know what the 2014 rates are and I don't know what Poly rates are. I'm only going on what I know from BLT and WL.

It just overall feels much more roomy and we can spread out without being all over each other. Because I come back to the room for naps and have little ones who go to bed earlier, it's nice to have that separate space so that everyone doesn't have to tiptoe around...but we still have common space so that we can comfortably be together without huddling on each other's beds. :) With the addition of a crib (which I assume you'll need for the infant!), the villa just seems easier to maneuver.

Okay, I *may* be wrong here, but a CM told me recently that villas have to be booked by phone. Not sure if this is a "forever" thing, but the new system won't allow you to book online. Also, they can only be booked about 6 months out (someone correct me if I'm wrong!), even by phone. :)

My family would absolutely prefer to stay at BW instead of Poly (like both). Doing a two-bedroom unit gives you a 'gathering space' that you won't get in two rooms at a deluxe, too.

With the two bedroom villa at BWV, you will have a lockoff. That means the second bedroom is really a studio. So you will have one king bed in the master bedroom, one queen sleeper sofa in the living room, one queen bed in the second bedroom and a double sleeper sofa in the second bedroom. The second bedroom will also have a kitchenette and a door to the hallway.

At the Polynesian, you would have four queen sized beds and two day beds in two rooms.

Wow! A lot of stuff to think about. I do like the idea of a full kitchen and love the idea of a washer and dryer, especially with a toddler and a 8 month old baby. And of course, as mentioned by a previous poster, the inevitable spilling of dinner onto ones shirt; which happens a lot! :rotfl2:

I figure if we do the villa then we will have our oldest daughter and her friend sleep in the living room on the sleeper sofa, my mother and our 14 yr old dd share the second bedroom, and my husband and I will be in the master bedroom with our 3 year old and our new baby.

If we do the two rooms at the Poly and then we will have our oldest daughter and her friend share a room with grandma. And our 14 yr old will stay in our room and share a bed with her 3 yr old sister. And the baby will also be in our room of course.

When searching prices for the Villas all I get is 2 bdrm club level. We don't really care to have club level so we are looking into the possibility of renting points for the villa. Renting points does make me a little nervous but I have read some good things about a couple brokers so will probably do it that way.

If we do the Poly then we will book with Disney directly. The good thing about that is if they later come out with a discount we can hopefully take advantage of that and save some money in the end.

I like both resorts and would love the chance to stay at either one. I think if we weren't traveling with such a big party I would book the Poly in a heartbeat though. But since there will be a lot of us maybe the Boardwalk would be better so we have a little more space. :confused3 We might need it after being with each other all day long. :rotfl2:
