No more weddings at Sunset Point...is this related to Poly DVC?

Hi everyone!

If this has been posted already I sincerely apologize.

DBF and I are getting to the point where I think a wedding may be in the future, and being the avid planner I am, I'm already looking at venues (passively) to get an idea what fair prices are (shh don't tell!! lol)

Anyway, I noticed a while ago that in the Disney Wedding Escape Collection, Sunset Point was offered as a wedding location (albeit for a limited number of guests). More recently, it's no longer listed. I've read rumors on here as well as Tikiman's site about a possible Poly DVC location...any chance that the construction of a DVC might be why? If not, any other insights as to why this might be? I'm hoping this is only temporary because I've wanted to get married at the Poly since I was 5 :-(

Anything you guys know, I'd love to hear! Thanks!

One thing that I've learned is that with DFTW just about anything is possible with a big enough investment, so don't give up hope yet.

There are options at Aulani too. We chose to get married on Castaway Cay and that was the best choice for us. The weddings/honeymoon boards here will soon become your best friend

As much as I would LOVE Aulani I'm not sure it'd be possible. DBF's mother is much older and I don't know how she would do with that long of a trip (we're in PA). Florida is pushing it but she's done it before to see friends. I do think you're right; it seems like if you show them the money they will make whatever you need work! Thanks for your insights. I'm going in September and think there may be a chance of an engagement. If so, I would like to meet with a planner as long as I'm already there! Lol I swear I'm not psycho, just a very careful planner

We got engaged at Sunset Point while watching Wishes. We planned to get married there as well, but we ended up going with a local wedding at nearby lighthouse and winery. I'm so glad we did, but SP will always hold a special place in our hearts. I would hate to see it go. I'd also love for there to be DVC at the Poly though! Good luck on your trip in September, I hope you get the ring!

Your assumptions are correct. Sunset point has been taken out for weddings because of something with DVC. I called the other week about planning our wedding there and the person i spoke to on the phone confirmed it :-(

That would be a shame. We were married at Sea Breeze Point at the Boardwalk but we were engaged at Sunset Pointe. I may be wrong but Poly beach may be an option still.

I want to know if they have alternative spot at poly or can u have an escape wedding at luau beach (which I believe just for memories ceremonies) I fell in love with sunset pointe location, planning on getting married June 2015

Disney filed paperwork this week with SFWMD for Poly rehab which includes pilings in the lagoon to support future structures. I'm betting some sort of bungalows.
