We currently have a room only reservation, but my DH wants to add the meal plan. If we upgrade to a package ( with tickets and DP), do we lose or room discount? (the room discount is no longer available). We are leaving in three weeks, is there still time to add the meal plan? TIA

Yes, you'll lose your discount. Keep in mind that most people lose money using the dining plan, so if money is a factor, you should probably keep what you have.

Call and ask. If all you're doing is adding full price tix and DDP, I can't believe they'd penalize you for it.

No, you will not lose your discount, but you will have to pay in full for everything (room balance, tickets and DDP) as soon as you upgrade since you are past 45 days.

Because the room discount offer has expired the CM on the phone probably won't be able to do it for you. You'll need to speak with a supervisor or Guest Services to have your discount transferred to a package. The new package reservation will be created and the room only res cancelled. You'll have to pay the entire cost when you book the package because you are within 45 days of arrival.

You can cancel a room only reservation without penalty up to 5 days before arrival. You can add a dining plan to a package up to 3 days before arrival.

It's been awhile since I've booked or done changes directly thru Disney as I've been renting DVC points the last years. However - my experience in the past if you want to add to your reservation Disney will do it and just add the cost of the whatever you are adding. I don't think adding tickets of dining plan will change the cost of the room you already have unless your discount had conditions.

If you wanted free dining you couldn't keep room discount as with free dining you have to pay full room price..

If you wanted to add extra days you may not get the discount on those extra days as the offer may not still be available.

But you have the room... your not changing anything about it or the dates you are going or the # of people..you're just adding things...I may be totally wrong, but I don't think it will affect the cost of your room.

I do know you can only add DDP within a certain amount of time before your trip. When we got stuck in Disney due to Sandy we couldn't continue or add DDP to the extra days we were there as we couldn't book it early enough.

Anyway, as PP said - it doesn't hurt to ask...just call and see what a CM says.

You will not lose the discount if it's handled properly. Purple figment is correct that guest services will have to handle the change. Regular reservation CMs do not have access to expired promos and since going from one reservation type to the other requires cancelling/rebooking, this has to be handled by a supervisor or guest services. Keep in mind that since you are less than 45 days from arrival, the total package cost will be due and you will have to wait for a refund on the room only as they are separate reservation systems, so money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

The problem in the OP's situation is she currently has room only and wants a package. Since they are different reservation systems, you can't just add tickets/DDP to a room only reservation to make it a package; the room only would have to be cancelled/refunded and the package booked, which would cause her to lose the discount on the room. With that said, guest services has a way of making these changes so you don't lose that discount, but it still requires cancelling and rebooking.
