I will be 1 point shy of being able to book AKV for the NJ Teacher's Convention time in a Savannah view at AKV, 2 bedroom, dedicated for 4 nights. My thoughts are to book the Wednesday to Saturday at 11 months, and wait until 7 months to try to get the Saturday night. I hope my friends won't have to move. Do you think I will be OK?

They thought they would be going in December which would have used fewer points, so I used a few more AKV points for my own vacations.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you buy the single point you need from DVC? I believe you can buy up to 15 points in order to supplement your stay. This would be better than having to try for your one night at 7 months.

That is possible at 7 months, not 11.

You can't buy points from DVC until 7 months.

I would think you should be able to get the room at AKV- you could always book 3 nights Savannah view and 1 standard so the most they would have to move is within the resort in case things are all booked up but since the convention is normally in Nov. you should be fine unless it is a run Disney weekend and AKV is one of the run Disney hotels.

I tried to book that same week this year at BCV in a studio at about the 9 month mark, and ended up having to waitlist part of the stay. I know that BCV is more popular at that time of the year since it is Food and Wine. My waitlist did come thru before the 7 month mark.

I know it's more points, but given that the last few years that's been a Disney race weekend and the last weekend of F&W I would try to shift what you can book and secure the saturday. I have friends whose waitists never came thru for that Saturday night this year. That's going to be harder to get at the 7 month window and this way if you can't get the early night you're moving early in your trip.

That F&W run is what caused some of my problem. I booked AKV for this year's half marathon, but found out later that it isn't one of the hotels with transportation to the race, so we're now staying at SSR. (DDil, DS are running, we are cheering them on!) The AKV points were borrowed, and so I have to keep them in this UY. The other problem was what I mentioned before, they were going to go in December, so I did have the points for then.

I've asked DSis if she wanted me to book the entire stay with standard view, no moving, guaranteed the resort they want (DSis will be part of the group staying on this trip). I have not heard from her regarding that solution. I definitely will book them savannah view if it is available at 7 months.

Maybe if AKV is not one of the hotel with transportation, it will be easier to get the savannah view at 7 months.
