Meant to mention this some time ago but never got around to it. If your mickey head is not as defined as you like or didn't come out as vivid as you'd hoped, try and find a Sharpie marker that matches the color of your mickey head and fill it in with that. My mickey head was done with black dharma dye but just around the ears it wasn't filled in enough. Used the Sharpie and voila! it was perfect.

You can also just touch it up with some of the dye after it dries..works great!:cool1:

has anyone done red and green for christmas and can they post pics? I want to do some for christmas day but want to make sure they look ok before i do them.

Red and Green make brown - I would imagine the places where they bleed together would not be very pretty, but it's just a guess.

Red and green can work together. I've done that combo twice now and had pretty good luck with it. I tried not to overlap them.

I picked up some dye randomly yesterday and then cam home and found this thread. So many great shirts! I was inspired...

Not bad!

Agreed. It could be that she just lost interest too. I don't think anyone starts a thread like this and expects to be asked the same questions hundreds of times and for people to demand answers, you know? Pixie, if you happen back around, hope all is well!

Thank you! You're so sweet :wave2: im doing great, just had way too many things going on.

I have always wanted to try these and today is the day!!
Quick questions. Do I wash the shirts first? And do I dry them?
Thank you!

My understanding is you can wash them first but you don't have to as long as you soak them in the soda ash.

Squeeze them out and leave them damp. I read somewhere you can dye them dry but it takes more dye to get it to soak in. It also said doing it dry would create somewhat crisper lines. I haven't done it so I can't verify.

I ended up washing them. I went back to page one and started reading until I found a post that said to wash them first. they are hanging up drying now. Hopefully tomorrow we will give it a try!!!! i'm so excited! I hope ours come out as nice as some of the ones ive seen on here.

This info is probably here somewhere but I couldn't find it when I needed to know.

I emailed Dharma to ask how long the dye would last once mixed and this was their reply:

Once Fiber Reactive Procion type dyes (powdered ones) are mixed with water for tie dye, they are great for a couple of days, and good for a week, and ok for a couple of weeks. Each color is different as to how well it does. What happens over time is that they react with the water, so they gradually become unavailable to the fabric. Old mixed up dyes will look great going on, but more and more will wash out, leaving you with lighter duller colors when the mix gets too old. Some say refrigeration, and adding a little salt ( 1tsp/8oz dye mixture) helps the dyes to last longer, but we haven't done any tests to see how much longer. Professional dyers use freshly mixed dyes.

Hi dye-ers! Long time since I posted in this thread but I had to come back and scan to see new shirts because I am so excited to be doing some shirts for our upcoming trip. :cool1: Just ordered more colors from Dharma and boy they have some pretty new colors out right now! I think my daughters are going to love the Mermaid Green and Seafoam combo the most, but since it is a girls' trip we are doing a set of pinks and a set of purples, too. Probably other stuff, too, but not all with Mickey heads. I still have dye's left from last time (browns, oranges, deep purple, hot pink, blacks, etc), so it was only $20 for me to add in some extra colors to do the combos we want. I am so glad I thought to buy the bigger bag of ash and urea last time. Now just to finish gathering the shirts and sundresses we want. :thumbsup2

I also wanted to add that right now they are sending out a sample of a new black (Hot Black) for free with any order. Supposed to be a truer black than having to mix Better Black and New Black together.

I'll post pics when I am done. Thanks for keeping this thread alive so I can remember what to do. lol :goodvibes
