Keep or cancel Cape May?

When planning my ADRs my son asked to go back to Cape May, so I booked it for arrival night. We went in 2010 and he loved it. I have read less than favorable reviews lately though, and now I'm not sure if it is still worth going to, especially on arrival night or if I should cancel.
We are staying at BWV the first night, so going or cancelling isn't an issue either way. Not far and plenty of choices around. I should mention that my DS is the only one in our family that eats seafood (he devoured the crab legs on our last visit), but when we were last there, they had a lot of non seafood options that made everyone happy. My DH can't eat poultry either if that matters.
We are also eating with a couple friend of ours who will be vacationing at the same time. They love seafood, so I thought this would be a good fit. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

I cancelled mine today after reading the reviews. We are going to Narcoossees instead and paying oop for the kids.:thumbsup2

I say keep it. While I value others opinions, the only one that matters is your own. If you enjoyed it before or have never done it, I say go for it. If you dont like it or things have changed too much in your opinion you know not to go in the future.

I just went for my first time Oct 12. I liked it a lot. I know a lot of people have said its gone downhill, but since I hadn't eaten there before, I had nothing to compare it to, and I liked it. We will be going back again in January. I think its good for seafood lovers, but those who are looking for a lot of non seafood choices might be disapointed.

We are going for the first time in December and I too read the bad reviews. But I am keeping mine. One thing I have figured out is everyone is different and for every bad review there is a good one. My entire family LOVED Sci Fi and the reviews can be horrible for that place.

So we are going to give it a try and see if we like it...if not we will skip next time.

There are many places I would choose over Cape May.

My personal opinion is that everyone should try each place at least once to decide for themselves. But, in lieu of that, I'd offer my experience of Cape May.

We thought it was okay. The main disappointment was that our timing and the buffet food was completely off. We must have been seated at a weird time, around 8pm if I remember correctly. It's like the dinner rush hit and everything on the buffet line was almost empty. So, we had to pick over the left overs for most of our meal. We picked up some crab legs, and other seafood. The cold shrimps were delicious. The veggies were okay, the corn cobs were down to 2 pieces. I got a little of most items, but as I mentioned it was picked over badly.

After DH and I ate our main food, after breaking crab legs that weren't that impressive, we went back up to see if there was anything else we wanted even though we were full. Well, guess what, the whole buffet was restocked at maybe 9-ish? That was disappointing to see a lot of fresh food after we ate the left overs from the first wave of diners.

We sampled the desserts, nothing really impressive, they were okay, not fantastic. I've heard people take about oreo bon bons, but they had stopped making those before we had went.

For the money, we paid OOP, it didn't seem worth the $80+ for 2 people.
I think next time we want seafood we're going to try Narcoosee's. It gets pretty good recommendations on the board.

I have to mention, if you are just looking for a quick and cheap meal, try the seafood tacos (2 per order) right next door at Martha's Vineyard, for $8.99, they are really good and enough for a small meal.

I agree...I'd keep it :thumbsup2.

This was one of our favorite meals in 2012! My step-dad still raves about our experience there. The service was exceptional also. Food was and is always great! :thumbsup2

I think Cape May reviews vary between breakfast and dinner. We had breakfast there last month and were disappointed. The bagels were stale and eggs were cold. I would not go again for breakfast, CP and TS are much better in my opinion. However, dinner may be worth a try.

I would cancel it. I used to love Cape May, but after eating there in April, we won't be returning. I'm the only one in our family that eats seafood. However, there used to be enough non-seafood items to satisfy the other family members. Not this time, the ribs and chicken nuggets are gone, so only the carving station is there now. Not enough value in it for our family.

We ate there in March with a large family group. While it wasn't anyone's favorite restaurant the whole week, it also wasn't anyone's hated restaurant. Basically, everyone liked it pretty well and felt there was plenty for them to choose from--even the vegetarians. With a big group, sometimes that's all it takes to make it a good choice. My favorite buffet right now (and I'm not generally a fan) is Tusker House for breakfast, but we had a couple of members of our party really not like the food there --they are really picky.

I agree with you. Everyone has different tastes and every restaurant provides different levels of service and quality at different times.

I'd cancel. I was there last week and found it so underwhelming. Our server was very nice and friendly but the food left much to be desired. There were crab legs but that was about it. The rest of the options were not of very high quality. I was seriously just eating mac and cheese because you can only endure the hassle of digging out crab meat for so long and there was like nothing else. I thought there would be a lot more stuff considering it's a buffet.
