New here so please bare with me! I have read numerous places that you need to buy where you want to stay....we want to purchase at Grand California.....but there are so few resale contracts our there and they are small. We would like to purchase 200-250 points and are so tempted to make an offer for other contracts at that amount with much lower per point costs.

I am wondering if the booking window for Grand California tight at 7 months out for a one bedroom?

I found it tight when we tried. Luckily they had a studio available and at the time we had an infant so it legally worked for 5 to stay in the studio but it was a tight fit. Now she is three so it would not work for us to have a studio. But I haven't tried to make another reservation since......

I wouldn't go for what is 'cheapest' if you don't intend to want to go there. That 11 month window is too important if you have strong feelings about where you are staying especially if you are talking about a complete other state.

I asked thus question on multiple boards and was convinced by many to buy at vgc. Vgc is the smallest resort in the system. That combined with the fact that Disney will keep opening new resorts means at 7 months it'll be more difficult to book.

Good luck on your search, I was rofrd twice and finally passed this week. Waiting in my closing docs.

There are very few out there is seems, but you need to be patient. A 200 point contract has sale pending on The Time Share Store. Check them and fidelity daily, eventually you will find one.

If i wanted to stay only at WDW I might well content myself with buying a cheaper resort and taking my cnaces at 7 months. However, you want to stay at VCG, it does work for some at 7 months but it is very very busy. Also resale contracts do come up quite regularly. We decided to buy there last christmas and my points are in my account now so it can be done.

If you don't want to go the resale route you could look at the direct wait list but i think patience will pay off.

You also need to think about the fact that of you buy at another resort planning to use the points at VGC only to have Disney implement a new policy stating you can only book at your home resort or change the booking windows for non resorts at some point. For this reason I would only buy where you plan to stay

One more thing to consider is how far in advance do you normally reserve?
If you reserve under 7months then any resort should work (barring DVC made any changes with booking and exchange rules).
But if you will use the HR advantage then having VGC points are the best way to go.

If you mainly go to DL and want to stay at VGC and can book more than 7 months out then wait for the VGC contract. The large ones do come thru and usually more often than the small ones. Buying resale is a lot about patience and waiting for the right one to come along.

If you buy resale at a WDW resort and can't get your room at DL then that contract would be of little use since you can't use the points at DLH, PP or GC either.

But if you'd be open to going to either coast depending on which reservation you can get at 7 months then it's not impossible to book VGC right at 7 months. Just never guaranteed.

Thank you for all the great input! We are going to be patient and wait for the right contract at GCV to show up for resale....keeping our fingers crossed :)

Can I ask what the terms on your contract were? How many points and price per point?
