Chefs de France and Remy

So, I understand you have the possibility of seeing Remy at Chef de France. Is there a time that is better than another to increase your chances?

Remy starts his rounds Monday - Saturday at 12:30, 1:40. 2:50 and 5:00. It used to be 5:20, but lately it has been reported that his last round begins at 5:00. He doesn't appear on Sundays.

You must be seated at your table when he visits. If you are in the process of being seated or are in the bathroom when he comes you will miss him and he will not come back. You cannot get up and go over to him. It is recommended that your reservation be no later than 30 min. before the start of one of his rounds, just in case Chefs is seating late.

Remy is a highly sophisticated audio-animatronic figure that may have unexpected problems and not appear. If you have small children it would be better not to promise that they'll see Remy, but let it be a surprise.

1) Inside Les Chefs de France.

. . . Remuy is a rat-size animatronic anchored to a cart
. . . he is on a push-around food cart and does not leave it
. . . the cart makes one trip around the eatery
. . . you can take pictures, but no autographs
. . . you must wait until he comes to your table *

. . . you must wait for the next scheduled time
. . . if your ADR is near a scheduled time, be early
. . . you may not be seated on time, and will miss him
. . . you might be in line waiting for a table when he appears

. . . good hint: make your ressie at least 45-minutes prior to tour time
. . . it is easy to be stuck at the podium when he makes his round

* People gathering around the cart, it would clog the aisles. Guests
might be pressing their shorts against another guest's tabletop and
food (yuck, gross). Also, he's temperamental and occasionally
doesn't appear at all - and without prior notice. Could be tech
glitches or even absenteeism. There are times he breaks down
during the tour and has to stop visiting. So don't overly promise
the little ones.

We were lucky enough to see Remy last year during our 5:00 ADR (though it appears that he's changed his schedule recently).

Beware, though, his handler is very protective of him! The woman at the table next to ours made the unfortunate mistake of asking Armand (his handler) if she could take a picture of "it". Armand was not happy about that and made quite a scene! The poor lady was so embarrassed as Armand continued to berate the lady about not referring to Remy by name and not wanting a picture of him (Armand)!

That's too bad. When we saw Remy he was with him female handler and she was delightful. Our kids laughed the whole time and loved their visit with Remy. My daughter tried to touch him though (she's 3) and her hand was kind of slapped away before I could grab it, but I understand.

I think the host/hostess are just trying to act a part, but I agree that they aren't necessarily very nice. Both can be rather abrupt (think about a bad stereotype of a Parisian) and aren't terrible easy to talk to. For example, I asked the lady handler if I could take a picture of Remy with Figment and when I was done and reaching for Figment, she said Remy said "now get off" and the man made a point of saying that Figment wasn't real and just a stuffed animal. Both comment seemed awfully rude, but overall Remy is cute, so that makes up for it. I just wish the host/hostess weren't trying so hard to be fake-stereotype-French.

I saw on some posts that photos are allowed but I'm wondering if they allow video. I don't want to see a Remy video before we go (in case we decide to make a res) so I will be more surprised by the experience, but it'd be nice to make a video of him so family can enjoy it.

Videos are fine. Just look-up Remy and Les Chefs using Google and you'll find lots of links to YouTube videos (even if you don't want to watch them before you go).

I think you don't find videos on the Disboard because they don't allow folks to embed videos in a post.

Yay! We've got a 5:00 reservation in November for our 20th anniversary trip. It would be GREAT if we got to see Remy!
